Keep my PS4 or get a Wii U?

Nintendo of course has fine offerings for local couch coop, but I do think their fans should have a look at a PS4 local couch coop game list before declaring it a fait accompli. The results would surprise them. There are tons of awesome local multi games, more than I had even thought.

Wait and get a Wii U later on so you have both. I'm also a PC, PS4, and Wii U gamer and I can't imagine getting rid of the PS4. Too many good games coming out for it.

Otherwise you're just wasting money because you know you're going to want a PS4 again down the line. I find it hilarious when people sell their systems based only on what's available now, then regret it when a game they want comes out.

Sportsfriends is one of the best things in the world while drunk at a party. It takes an astonishing amount of skill to be good at lol. Horrible combination with liquor :p

OP I'm in a similar situation.

Sold my 3DS XL and games to get PS4 games/headset/etc. since I was getting an iPhone 6 plus for portable gaming.

Turns out I really miss my 3DS and haven't been playing much PS4. Now I know it's dumb, but I kind of want to trade in my PS4 for a n3DS and a bunch of games.

My indecisiveness is crippling.

You just threw away a ton of money, gaming pal.

That's because Indies have become the leaders in local coop games, and the ps4 has by far the best indie support so...

Tax refund season is nearly upon us and the price of the Wii U has nowhere to go but down. Wii U definitely has a stable of worthwhile exclusive titles but they are only going to get cheaper. Play your PC and PS4 for now and put away a little money each week for the Wii U, even if it's only $10. Before you know it, the right deal will come along that meets your budget and you'll be sitting pretty with box boxes and not having to miss any exclusives other than XB1.

Why I have a Wii U:

Bayonetta 2
Wonderful 101
Super Mario 3D World
Yoshi's Woolly World
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
Mario Kart 8
The Legend of Zelda
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Wii backlog

Why I will get a PS4:
Persona 5
Disgaea 5
Ys 8
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Yakuza 0
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition

I don't think you should sell your PS4 just in a case a true must have pops up. As of right now, there's nothing that interests me on the system. I really hope it picks up though.

I am a Nintendo fan, but I just don't see how any long term gamer could pick the Wii U over the Playstation 4 at this point. Unfortunately, I think 2015 is going to be the final hurrah for this console. But what a hurrah it is going to be with a new Star Fox, Zelda, and Splatoon from EAD.

But you have a larger stream of games from SCE and third party publishers coming to the PS4 this year.

You said it yourself that you're on a limited budget so keep the PS4 and wait on the Wii U. The Wii U is only going to get cheaper in price(so will the Ps4 but selling it and then rebuying it will only be a waste of money since you could have just kept the first one).

I would keep the ps4 and pc but i mean its personal preference.

I have all the newer consoels and a pc , and i still game on pc 90% personally.

Wii U gets the least play time by a lot.

as others are mentioning , just wait for the wii to be cheaper. It will be cheaper soon im sure .

Want a crazy idea OP? Sell the PS4 and get a Vita :p If you're at all budget conscious, it gets craaaaaaaazy discounted games. And the $200 Borderlands 2 bundle comes with a game, and an 8gb memory card :p Then you get the PS1 and PSP digital library.

Honestly, I think Sony will have quite a bit to announce for this year at E3.

But the Wii U right now has undeniable quality, I guess it depends if your hankering for something to play now, and if you are it's worth the trade.

All that said, I'm almost certain the Wii U will have a price drop this year or worse, they'll announce it's successor. Either way a price drop is bound to happen, so if you can save up and hold your horses...

It sounds like the Wii U is more the console for your than the PS4 given your PC situation, but I wouldn't really recommend selling the PS4. You're going to want one again eventually, so you're just losing money by selling and rebuying consoles.

I don't know what you're exact money situation is, but based on what you said, my advice would be to save up your possible gaming budget for awhile (you said yourself that there weren't that many PS4 games that you wanted prior to Uncharted 4), and once you can afford it, pick up a Wii U. There might even be a good deal for the system that comes along by that point, too.

If you can only have one, then sell the PS4 for a Wii U. Your PC will play most of the content you'd get on PS4 anyway.

If you can avoid selling and simply buy a Wii U at a later date, do that. Selling systems is almost never a good idea, and it will lead to regret at some point or another.
.

Oddly enough, due to a sudden windfall from the Gods, I just got myself a pre-owned PS4 yesterday (for Bloodborne and my PS+ backlog), it's a really slick machine and the controller is aces. And I'm going to buy myself a high-end PC just like OP's (i5 + 970) later on today, to replace my ageing current rig. I already own a Wii U and PS3, so now i'll have the best of all worlds :D Sorry to boast, but I'm just so giddy about it all!

Ahem. Either way, yeah, the above bolded is what you should do. Don't sell, save up.

Oh, and buy a 3DS while you're at it :p

If you can get a good price for your PS4 sell it and enjoy PC/Wii U.

There will be probably something like a PS4 slim available in 2016 with less power consumption and less noise. And PS4 game prices tend to get low very fast unlike Wii U (first party) game prices. So there is no big benefit of postpone buying a Wii U.

...wha? I can't hear any noise whatsoever from my PS4 when it's on, and I thought it was supposed to be really energy-efficient. What gives here?

I love my Wii U, but like others have said console swapping like this is not a good idea. Stick with the PS4.

As a reminder Sony owns (over?) a dozen first party studios, many of which we don't know what they are working on yet. I don't think its fair to look at the few AAA exclusives coming out next year, all of which I am excited for, and decide that there is no reason to own a PS4 if you have a high-end PC.

Just save up for a Wii U and keep everything. Get a refurb if they are still doing those. I have a PC/PS4/Wii U. It is a good combo for me as it covers everything I am interested in. The PS4 is kind of redundant atm but the PS+ games I get every month are worth it. Sometimes you get exposed to a game or genre you might not have ever purchased but end up really enjoying. The exclusives in the coming years will make the system worth owning.

weird decision to buy stuff...sell...and then buy again. not sure how that is helping your financial situation as it ends up being a net loss

We've had a thread about it actually. I don't remember what the conclusion was, but certain ones seem to be louder than others, and there seemed to be some correlation with when it was produced. I'm not sure if we ever figured out what the correlation actually was.

If you have a PC, a WiiU will give you a far wider array of unique experiences than a PS4 will. Or does, rather. Who knows what Sony will choose to pull out of its hat throughout this generation.

Now, regarding the Wii U, I had one a few months ago but sold it to a friend of mine...

But now I'm missing....

You will be in the same situation with the PS4. Better to not sell something you still want/need as you are basically losing money. Best to wait it out, much more likely to get a cheap Wii U down the track than a Ps4.

If you're on a budget the Wii U isn't a great console, all the games for it are Nintendo™ expensive and will likely never drop below $60 each, while if you're patient you will be able to get games on the PS4 for $10 each, or even less.

This is an excellent point too. And I mean, if you have limited finances how many full priced games could you even buy after whatever it would cost you for the Wii U?

As a guy who had a PS4 and sold it for a WiiU...

Do it. The PS4's set of exclusives thus far has proven mediocre and the only major 3rd party console-centric IP that hasn't had a PC release confirmed yet is FFXV (And even that has writing on the wall.) and Persona (Never too late to make the jump!)

PC + WiiU is the way to go. Especially when I can play a match of CSGO and singleplayer Smash 4 at the same time between my monitor and gamepad.

Wii U > 3DS

I think at this moment, the Wii U is also offering much more than PS4. Just that I have my reservations if that will be the way throughout the whole generation. After all, I am one of those people who down right prefer PC and either PS3 / 360 over a Wii. And I don't really care much about either Sony or Microsoft first party.

Still, I would at least take a wait and see approach and keep the PS4 for 2015.

It's really up to you but why waste money by taking a loss (on a console you are likely to re-buy down the road) when you say yourself you are on a limited budget?
Keep the PS4, do a layaway at your local Kmart for a few weeks and voila, best of 3 worlds (PC/ PS4/ WiiU).

They're both shit. Get an Xbox.

The WiiU will be allways cheaper than the PS4... So I'll just keep the PC and the PS4 and get a WiiU when you can afford it.

Not really sure about that. Sure enough, Nintendo is on a roll and if - like me - you're a Platinum fan, the Wii U is a must.

But titles like Hohokum, Rime, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, The Tomorrow Children, Persona, Tearaway and Bloodborne are not exactly run of the mill either and none of those will be on PC. And there are games like Edith Finch and the new Media Molecule in development. As well as blockbusters like Uncharted.

It depends on the type of games you want to play, but the PS4 has many years of life left in it, unlike the Wii U.

Right now, the Wii U has the better library, but 2015 looks pretty stellar for PS4.

If you don't want to play dumb with your wallet, keep it, even because Wii U is more likely to get a price cut or some good offer. Don't listen to those who say that it's useless thanks to your PC, because I've a 970 myself, I'm extremely happy for the purchase but without my PS4 I could never play Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, The Order, Driveclub, Alienation, Disgaea, GT7, Infamous, Rime, Yakuza, Persona 5, LBP3, Until Dawn and the list goes on.
PS4 and One share a good 80% of their library with PC because they have all the third party studios' games plus a lot of indies. It doesn't mean they do not have their exclusives and are not worth the purchase.

There is also Rime and that underwater-Journey looking game that I forget the name to.

Not to mention certain genres are a barren wasteland on Wii U - fighting and realistic racing games - which will be covered on PS4.

I think the PS4 is gonna be awesome, it just had a mediocre 2014.

And how are you going to play Bloodborne in 2 months? That's not an acceptable choice :p

Keep the PS4, good shit is coming. Buy a WiiU after Zelda comes out and play through the back catalog.

Pretty much this dude. You've been this long without a WiiU, now ain't the time to cave. Bloodborne!

Yes, I know that this is mostly personal, but I'm trying to get some additional advice before deciding.

The thing is... I'm on a limited budget, can't afford to buy a brand new console right now, got more unexpected but important things to focus. However, my christmas gift from, well, myself, was a really high end rig, GTX 970, i5, etc.

I like my PS4. A lot, but with my PC now sharing my gaming time, I can see a lot of releases coming also to PC that were previously exclusive (to me) on the PS4. The Order 1886 and Bloodborne are definitely interesting, but I'm not aware of other exclusive, amazing titles in the coming months before Uncharted 4, correct me if I'm wrong.

Now, regarding the Wii U, I had one a few months ago but sold it to a friend of mine that had big financial issues, but had a son completely in love with Mario Kart 8, so sold it for a bargain and called it a day.

But now I'm missing MK8's DLC, Captain Toad, Bayo 2 and even SSBU (and that's not even my type of game). I'm also interested in Kirby and Yoshi coming up in the next few months.

Am I missing some cool game on both scenarios? Considering my PC and my interest on the games listed, is a PS4 the best deal, for now? Or should I give the Wii U a second chance?

I think you have put all the arguements you need in your post FOR a Wii U. PC will hit the mark on all the 3rd party stuff but you will miss out on any 1st party sony software exclusives.

So going by logic, buy the cheaper* experience now and should you financially be in a better position down the track, get the other platfoem too.

*cheaper may mean a 2nd hand ps4 over a Wii U, or a brand new Wii U over bramd new ps4 for instance

Why would you sell something only to buy it again later? Are you trying to lose money?

I don't think you should do that, especially now that you said you're having monetary problems. Wait till stuff gets better financially, then get a wii u. You're only going to save money that way.

The chances of the console and games you want being cheaper later on are way bigger than what you're going for right now.

But hey, thats just my humble opinion. Its your path to walk my friend.

Have no regrets and do what you think is best.

When did this idea that only Nintendo could put out quality content begin to surface? I mean if you were to listen to half the people in this thread, one could be under the impression that the PS4's never had access to anything worthwhile while every title ever published by Nintendo is automatically catered to everyone. It's complete nonsense lol.
