Quick and dirty OT.

Gonna download and play this over the weekend.

Doesn't look like any of Double Fine's previous work. Good that they're still making experimental stuff.

This game needs upscaling badly. I adjusted the rez down to 1440p and not I'm getting 50fps. At 4k, 20-30.

Has no FSR, DLSS, XeSS......nothing.

Gotdamn. This didin't seem like the kind of game that'd be 26GB. Downloading the console version now, will post impressions later.

edit: It's a UE5 game, those are always large in size, I suppose.

Only cared about Psychonauts, but they ruined it with the second game (nerfed powers, most powers sucked, and levels weren't as memorable besides the hub).

What a bizarre, trippy looking game.

Kinda disappointing that it's only 30fps on Series X, but the IQ and visuals look very nice, at least.

I'll prob dig it then, I like "chill weekend" games. Does it tell a story? Or is it just puzzly stuff?

The story is all show, zero tell. Believe the tagline I read said "a story without words". That's pretty dead on. I'm not going to spoil anything but you get the sense in the game that there is a destination and the lighthouse is trying to get there. Why? No idea yet. However, there is one section that I just went through that suggests there is a deeper story than that. I think I'm further along than most so I don't want to say too much. I'll just say that after an hour and a half......I'm intrigued.

Fair, thanks, I'll give it a go at the weekend.

Just blew through nearly 4 hours. Game is charming as hell. The puzzles are not difficult, but they are clever. spoilers....

Lots of of birth, life, death parrallelism with morning, day and night. Actually toggling shifts in time that utilize the bird as an egg as well as being a dead ghost. The interactions with the environment using the light and the bird work really well.

I'm probably past the midway and I'd say that I think reviewers overall got it right. It's a 8/10 game. Think I'll finish it tomorrow.

So is this an experience or, well, a game?

Is there actual challenge, puzzles etc? I get bored by stuff like journey or walking sims

There are puzzles, but they are not particularly challenging. Most are obvious or trial/error. It's still a game, but it is a charming experience. I'm enjoying it.

It has puzzles, no 'combat' but you have a partner with the lighthouse who you can occasionally 'send out' to pull and push on things to clear your way etc etc.

It's more involved than a walking sim but not like an uncharted or something.

Done in 4 hours.

While very beautiful, this is a mish-mash without any form of singular vision or Idea.

It felt like a collection of internal UE5 GameJam levels stitched together without any second thought. And oh my god I wll become rich when people will pay me a dollar every time when artsy-fartsy game is copying Apotheosis level from Journey.

In short, now I understand why MS PR about Keeper was quite muted. Final 1 hour is literally a bad trip and not a good one.

Performance isn't great. Frame rate suddenly in the 20s

TjhFGog0hESoeKep.png

The game runs heavy. 4k dlss quality mode I'm getting 50-60 fps on a 5080. Avoid frame gen. I was getting some massive slow downs with that.

Hmmm. I think the game could use a few patches to fix those issues.

20s?? What are your PC specs? Is this the game with all graphics options maxed out? What would it take to keep the framerate at a locked 60?

I was running it native 4k without dlss. Didn't see the "advanced" section. It's fine now running mostly 60 with dips in the 50s

9700x and RTX 5080

Ah! I thought the framerate dipped to the 20s WITH 4K DLSS quality mode. Still, 50-60 fps on such a card with DLSS enabled ain't great.

uh... the game doesn't register my controller... wtf? I use a Dualsense with DS4Windows emulating an Xbox controller. it doesn't detect it.

the controller works without issue otherwise, only not in this game.

Diseased Yak Diseased Yak was having controllers issues as well. Did you ever figure it out, DY?

I tried my 8bitdo SF30+ Pro, and that worked for some reason when usind DS4Windows to mimic an Xbox controller...
very weird.

the game does not run all that well tho on my 3060ti. at 1440p DLSS Balanced mode, with a mix of medium and high settings I get 50fps to 80fps depending on scene.
and it seems to both have traversal and shader stutters as well.
but, I mean, as soon as the Unreal Engine logo shows up in the intro, you know you're in for a mediocre looking game running badly, so it's not surprising to see.

and, what i found funny is that it's one of those rare games that allows you to turn off TAA lol... so you see the raw "beauty" of modern unreal engine visuals, before the TAA smears them into a mush of flickering ugliness.

Definitely extremely impressive visuals and art style so far. Reminds me of old MTV animation short films from the 90s. Looks like claymation at times, painterly at other times. Nice water and lighting.

Gameplay is very, very minimal. Nice ambient music so far.

Perfect Gamepass game. Most will skip but for subs its just all gravy. Nice little palette cleanser game so far.
