I can't speak for Kendrick but before Wayne was talking about eating pussy every other bar, he was really good so I guess it's fair to give him that respect. Overall, I think he was just expressing his feelings to the rappers in his age bracket.
Edit - Lupe gets a bad rap for his antics though some of it is deserved but overall I respect him as a rapper. Lasers wasn't my favourite but Food and Liqour and The Cool were amazing and his last album was good.
