It's not even about sustaining the poor. It's to sustain the very infrastructure you and your company are using every day to live a proper life and 'earn that money' in the first place.

'Taxation is theft' my ass.

Aside from stupid spending of course, like, what, a trillion $ for military?

I jest.
Although how your tax money is spent very much depends on the nation you live in and the social programs available in said nation.

Leave school at 15, get pregnant, don't ever work.
What does that get you in life?
Well here in the UK it gets you free housing and a regular government pay cheque. Where does that money come from?

Believe it or not I had a democrat tell me that raising taxes HELPS the economy grow :messenger_neutral:
That's very common. We had someone try to run for sheriff and they claimed they wouldn't reduce the inflated staff numbers at the jail because those people paid sales tax so it was like free money. 😬

The military? That’s your example of stupid spending? Really?

Well it can. It's not simple math when you come to giant economies with a million moving and inter-related parts. Low taxes - booming economy, high taxes - stagnant economy, is way to simplistic.

It's definitely arguable how much money should be spent on what programs, and an important discussion point in regards to politics for sure.
But that does not mean that taxation, as a principle, is theft (not saying you said that, but some people do). That's an incredibly childish and reductive way to look at things, so much so that it's a reason for instant dismissal.

Yeah, taxation as a principal is not theft.

It's a shame people don't have more say/control over how their tax money is spent though especially as it can feel like a kick in the guts when tax money appears to be wasted.

I'm not sure what the ideal solution is. I know in theory we get to decide in principle how our tax money is spent based on who we vote for but in reality governments can do what they please with our tax money and we have no real power or influence over that.

Did you miss high school? Because we learned none of that :messenger_tears_of_joy:

But yea I agree. It should be taught
I studied this kind of stuff at my high school. I believe the class was called Home Economics. I learned quite a bit in that class and it's one of the main reasons why I was able to buy a home at the age of 24. Considering how kids are grown up nowadays, I think the class needs to be a requirement to graduate.

Ok, how do you explain higher taxes helping small businesses, the middle class, and the poor.

If we scrapped all taxes do you think we would be better off or worse off? It's pretty obvious that we need some taxation otherwise the country would go to shit immediately. Taxes too low you can't maintain shit and everyone suffers.
To put it simply taxes are what the government uses to do 'stuff'. Infrastructure for example that would be prohibitively expensive for a business can be done by the government due to economies of scale.

At a certain point it's diminishing returns. For some people there's no limit to what should be spent on the military
Oh I agree there’s inefficiencies. But if we’re making a list of bullshit government spending, I wouldn’t put the military near the top. That’s all.

Dude....I never said that. Taxes are a necessity in ANY NATION I asked you how higher taxes would magically help the economy grow. You are putting up a false dichotomy for which I never advocated. Here in my state we had a big tax break specifically for the film industry. It attracted many different studios to do business here and employed many locals, myself included, catering and travel businesses too. Eventually, the state government took them away because they didn't get enough money and the vasty majority of the industry packed up and moved elsewhere where taxes were lower for them to film.

There must be a healthy balance of taxes. Simply raising them and imposing more taxes is a huge reason the American and French Revolution started. Americans did not need heavy taxation from the East Indian Trade Company and the poor could not sustain themselves in France to line the pockets of the elites.

I don't know the system other there but isn't there a threshold you have to meet before you pay taxes or is it ANY INCOME regardless?
Because it was hard to understand how much he was earning, which I assume was a weeks pay.

You always pay taxes, but I think if you make below a certain amount a year the standard deduction will give it all back when you file

Some taxes you always pay, others like state and federal withholding you can reduce to basically zero through allowances especially if you are earning what this kid is. However if you don't have enough withheld at the end of the year there are penalties.

What stupid logic. Are you in high school?

When was the last time you talked to your local Treasurer or saw the books. You have no idea where your money is going to, but you gladly pay out of the ass to maintain "infrastructure", right?

Also, 😂 at complaining about the military. They are the second biggest employer in this country. You have no problem throwing money at corrupt officials, but when something does work for you, you cry

Kinda funny I had lost my last paycheck working at Albertsons it was only like 200$ probably but the fact I lost it and never lose anything was pretty crushing to me. The best part was my dad lecturing me about how I need to be more responsible granted my dad was a dope smoking long haired hippy at 16 and I was responsibly working to buy my own car.

A few months later my mother found my paycheck, at some point my dad had come into my room and wanted to write down a fish recipe so he grabbed whatever he could find and wrote on it (my check)

The scathing talk I had with my father about responsibility that day....

21 bucks from 280USD? Here you get essentially half of what employer pay you. Income tax alone is 25%...

Federal tax scales with how much you make. For very low income you pay essentially no income tax, just Medicare and SS which combine to about ~15%.

At median income you are probably paying another ~15% out of your check, up to 40% on people making over a million.

So it’s highly scaled depending on income and probably averages 30-35% from your check, not including state taxes (which can be another 10-15% depending on the state)

And of course that’s just your check, doesn’t include all the licensing fees, real estate taxes, sales taxes you may have to pay, which again are highly variable depending on the state.

Here is not scaled then. I did not know that USA have this system, because that's something from Scandinavia. By the way that 280USD is by month/week/day or how is it payed?

I feel proud when I see my salary decimated by government.

How else are we gonna feed, clothe and house those weaker in society? Take from me and giveth to the poor.

At least they could actually use my money. I'm tired of all these corporate bailouts and tax breaks that benefit no one but rich people. If you think the weakest of society get the most direct benefit from taxes then I have a bridge to sell you (or if you're rich the government will just take it from me and hand it over to you).

I don’t think they say in the video, I would assume it’s a weekly total based on the amount. But he might only be working part time, or since it’s his first check it might be only for part of a pay period.

Payroll here is paid weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly or monthly. Employers can choose.

Cool, here is almost exlusively monthly, so I wanted to ask.

Many people in germany getting social help because they say they are poor but in their home country they have bitches, hotels, gas stations...

I saw a report on state tv about how an old couple was talking about their son in turkey... "Since he is living germany.... live is better. He gets something called "Social Salary" and now we even have an HD TV for the first time."

And then tthey went on like "Many people in turkey and other countries aren ot really poor, they are only considered poor in germany to get social help. With the money, aside from drugs and prostitutes, they buy hotels, gas stations and other stuff in their homeland.

There was also a village that was literally funded and build through social help money from germany.

And iam sure... many people doing it. I would do it too.

Fed Taxes and State Taxes? And you can claim it back? He is moaning about $21 which is only 10% of what he earned!

Pshhhh...in the UK you get taxed on Income, National Insurance (which is like Medicare), your Pension AND (if you choose to), your Trade Union.

Income Tax is actually quite low over here if you earn more than £12,500 (you pay no Tax under this), but what is so so annoying is if you earn over abouts £8500 that National Insurance kicks in and you pay 11% of your wage if you go above that...and that can cost a LOT more than Income Tax (sometimes double!). Pension can vary but it is creeping up to 5% which leaves you with....not a lot after that even if you do a little bit better than Minimal Wage.

Ironically on my first job I was underpaid by 7 Hours because our Payroll Accountant is pretty crap at calculations (and he tends to slip up on Bonus Pay and Holiday pay as well).

At least you folks in states have it perfectly placed on bill.

I live in europe where on my bill i see only half of what i actually earn. So if i earn 5000zl i get around 3000 from it on bill. But my employer also pays additional 1000 in taxes. It is system created to make sure people don't find out how they are really taxed. Thanks to this bullshit there are plenty of people who claim they earn shit and want Government to give handouts but they don't realize that they actually earn twice they do normally they are just taxed to heaven.

If socialist will take over they first thing they will do will be to hide amount of taxes you pay so that masses of people will think that they earn half of what they actually make.

It's the same in the US with health insurance. The amount the company pays isn't taken out of your salary, but your salary is obviously lower because of it. For a family of 3+ you are looking at $5000 a year of your own payments, which is taken out of your salary, and another $15000 is paid by your employer.

"meh" thats nothing.

I cost my employer 60k SEK every month (~6800 USD)
2100 USD goes into an "employer tax" and i never ever see on my paycheck, it just dissapears before anything.
I get 45k on my paycheck (~4700 USD)
About 13k goes to "my taxes" (~1500 USD)
so I get around 32k in my pocket (~3600USD)

Now if i buy something, that's another 25% tax on whatever i buy.
So lets say i buy a playstation 5 and we assume its gonna be 500 USD in the US.
That 500 USD "in the US" gonna be translated to about 625 USD just by default (25% tax), then since its electronics and contain certain chemicals, we have an additonal tax for that.
About 18 dollars per kilo on everything thats not "kitchenware" and a maximium amount of 52 USD. So now my Ps5 is roughly 675 USD.
And unless you actively tell the church to fuckoff, they will by default tax you about 900 USD extra per year as some random "churchtax". You don't get your funeral for free or anything, its just there.

Now since "i make so much money", everything single cent above 57k USD per year i make, i pay an additional 20% tax on top of the regular tax.

So if i would make 58k per year, the extra 1k would be taxed first with the 33% incometax where i live and then an additional 20% and leave me with about 400 usd.

And then there is the tax on your pension, money you make on the side, if i sell my flat, if you want to take your car into a big city and on and on it goes.

But hey, we have that "awesome free healthcare" (spoiler: its not that great and it doesn't involve dentistry) and with the amount of tax we pay here it should be a fucking utopia but we are on the way to become a third world country.

Yeah I hear this is a thing in the US.
I'm sure it happens here in the UK too but we do also have very generous social benefits here and that money gotta come from somewhere....

Yeah I can understand why they do it.
If we are gonna be so generous like that, why not take advantage of it.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe that we should help those that fall on hard times, especially if you've contributed to society for the majority of your life.

So say you've been working your whole life, you get laid off or are involved in an accident so you can't work for a while, sure you deserve support and help. You've paid into the system when time were good but now you're in hard times and you deserve to get some help until you're back on your feet.

The problem is people that take, take, take but contribute nothing. We have people coming here from abroad that have never contributed to our society or paid any taxes (because they didn't live here originally) but now get handouts so that they can send the money back home (this is even worse since they aren't even pumping the money back into our economy).

Then you have families that for generations have done literally fuck all. Never work, pump out kids, those kids in turn never work and pump out more kids and the cycle goes on and on. I kind of feel a bit sorry for these people as they seem trapped in a cycle but then I come from a dirt poor family with a useless cunt of a mother than never worked and I grew up and bettered myself.

I dunno, I live in germany and get taxed out the wazoo. It sure is nice taking a clean, on-time tram to work every morning. Its also pretty great that my wife can take 1-3 years maternity leave and still get paid a percentage.

Yes yes that all seems reasonable but have you ever considered you might be a filthy communist socialist Marxist traitor to everything held dear by capitalist Jesus?
