whos ready for Kill La Kill Battle Royale Thanksgiving Edition?
My current Facebook status:

Tomorrow is an important day. A day a lot of us look forward to for a long time coming, and when it comes, it ends, so very quickly. Sheer joy, following by the familiar sadness of having to wait so long for it to come 'round once more.

Tomorrow is a new episode of Kill la Kill.

SO READY

And I've realised that I still haven't seen episodes 5 through to 8 yet, and 5 is about to fall off Wakanim's free list. Better fix that.

So yeah, with nine episodes into this show, I think the budget restraints are REALLY starting to become apparent now. I don't have that much of a problem with studios reusing previous footage every now and then but I think it's gotten a little ridiculous especially when seeing the same scenes over and over again in pivotal moments.

The fight in this episode was kinda disappointing as a result. The most interesting thing to me was the flashback with Satsuki. Well that and I guess
seeing Senketsu's second transformation but even then the new look was kinda lame, imo.

Hopefully the next fight will be more interesting.

Inumuta having little to no characterization so far would be forgiven
if his personality and fighting style are both inspired by internet pick-up artists that think knowing everything about a girl will make them able to hook up with her.

What if his transformation gives him a
Fedora and he says he's the one for Ryuuko since he is a "true man"?

Episode 9

Better than last week, but it definitely dragged in the middle. The director this week made pretty good use of the (lack of?) budget I feel. There are some really clever animation cuts this week, using solid layouts and and sequences which don't need a ton of animation but look really good and creative on their own. The first half and the end of the episode were pretty entertaining I felt, but the sluggish middle segment makes the episode feel really stretched.

It's an underlying problem for the entire show though. It's been much slower than I expected, and the writing is really below the standards of what the writer is known for. The wittiness and dynamic pace he's known for as a stage writer and in anime such like Gurren Lagann and O-Edo Rocket are sadly missing here, replaced by a predictable and somewhat dry slog. It's pretty telling when the best episodes of the show so far have been co-written by other people. Maybe he's just not a good match for this material?

Was the animation spotty at times? Yeah. Did I love this episode? Yeah.
I never thought I'd see an animated
dick slap
but there you go. Like I said above, Aikuro's scene was pretty funny, I liked the battle between Gamagoori and Ryuko. Her
transformation
was awesome and I seems like we'll have even more Gamagoori next week too. Satsuki is a badass as usual, so I'm happy.

Senketsu took it in the mouuuuuuuuuthhhhhhhhhhhh.

The animation budget definitely showed here, sure, but I was entertained. Seeing where Gama-chan goes from here will be interesting.

Are they retconning the bits where Gama-chan is following Satsuki and co around as she fights other schools? The subs said "Wait two years, blah blah blah, high school", but we know from the previous flashback that he didn't wait.

Huh? His flashbacks are from 5 years ago. The fight with the other school was 3 years ago. He waited 2 years.

She wasn't in high school then, was she? I seem to remember her being in the same junior high uniform at that point. The subs said he waited and joined her in high school.

Maybe I'm misremembering. There was much alcohol had.

The context is important here. 5 years ago, Satsuki was in the first year of junior high (middle school), while Gamagoori had just graduated. The reason why she says to wait 2 years, is because that's when she'll graduate herself, and create her empire in the new high school. His "waiting" also means that he is basically delaying his own education to enroll in the new school along with her. 3 years ago, Satsuki is in the final year of junior high, and she's recruiting all the generals who will form the foundation of her empire, so that's why he's there.

Kill La Kill 09

Pretty good episode, but not totally happy about the format. The battle itself was pretty good,
even if it pulled the "OH BATTLE POWERUP WHEN I WAS DESPERATE WOO" thing
but I'm hoping the next 3 episodes aren't just one-on-one battles.

So yeah, pretty good episode overall, but at the same time left me a bit "eeehn" on the direction the show is going in so far.

Yeah, they just subbed it weird.

Despite it being fairly obvious that Gamagoori would lose due to all the exposure he got last episode, I quite enjoyed this episode now that we finally got to see Ryuko be more methodical again, even though it was mostly Senketsu's doing. I'm excited to see where the uniform can be taken next, though to be honest it being three more episodes dedicated to battles feels like it's going to be quite a drag. I really hope the rematch against Sanageyama will pay off because Mikisugi's warning seemed to imply to me that something's going to go awry along the way.

I seriously think my favorite parts of the series this far has been Ryuko succeeding in shoving the opponent's own hypocrisy in their face. The exchange with Gamagoori was awesome. It's at times like these I get the sense that Ryuko is finally developing as a character and not just being the hotheaded, headstrong girl that wouldn't think rationally like she was in the first episode.

So about episode 9

I had mixed feelings on this one. They pretty much dragged their feet throughout the entire episode; even the long awaited fight between gamgoori wasn't too exciting because the pacing was awful. I did like Regalia's new design, but Ryuko's new form seems uninspired. Hopefully her next form is better... :p

On the plus side, we got a confirmation that Mako is TOTALLY IN LESBIANS WITH RYUKO.

:D

Take about 5 dozen eggs, start puttin 'em in a bowl, MIX THE F**K OUT OF THEM, and whadda ya get?
PENI-er, I mean the ultimate whip of love

So glad I wasn't the only one that noticed that

Man I'm really hoping this show picks up soon. This show really isn't doing anything for me. If I'm not convinced by the upcoming fight Nonon fight, I'm probably going to drop this.

EDIT: Episode was okay. The pacing for this show absolutely sucks though. And Gamagoori fight was the most formulaic fight yet.

Awesome, if Senketsu can transform into different forms I can't wait for Ryuuko vs Satsuki part 2, if Ryuuko can transform, so can Satsuki.

Anybody thought Ryuuko transformation reminds of Abaranger/Dino Thunder?

All the fights seem to follow the trend of
Ryuko initially getting beat the hell up but then a miracle plan happens and the opponent immediately gets wrecked.

A little back and forth wouldn't hurt.
