Amazon added graphic novels and comics to their store for Fire:

If you snag the free app of the day, do you retain access to it even after you uninstall it at some point?
I'd imagine emails, reading, and internet browsing mainly.
Yeah. I just go to Amazon on my PC every day and click the purchase link for app of the day. That just adds it to my account if I ever decide I want it. Takes two seconds to do! You can add it to Fire, delete it and it's still stored under your account for the future.
Sorry if this has been asked to death already, but what's the recommended tool at this point to convert video to mp4 for viewing on the Kindle Fire? I haven't messed with video conversion in a long time and am trying to rip a couple of DVDs to test the quality.
Can I get games off the Android Market. Like Chu Chu Rocket, Smurfs or Minecraft and play it on my Kindle Fire?
que? laptops can barely run minecraft. how is a cheap tablet supposed to be able to run it? did Sega put chuchu rocket into the marketplace?
Minecraft has a portable version running on android. I don't see why it can't run on Fire. To answer the original question, (how to sideload apps from market) follow the instructions here:

I have a question about the charging lights:
When It's in sleep mode and I charge it the power light stays up, but when I power it off and charge it the light doesn't come on but it charges, is that normal?
whoa i would totally pay for a chuchu rocket multiplayer versionWow, ChuChu Rocket's on Android? I can finally play the game Dreamcast fans keep talking about.
I just finished playing it. $1 well spent. Sad there's no multiplayer against anything but the computer, though.
Edit: Just realized this is a Kindle Fire thread, and that has nothing to do with the Kindle Fire lol. If you can sideload the game, or when the Android Market is finally hacked on the Kindle with all apps available, I suggest getting it. It's as if the game is made for a tablet.
Click on "Apps" from the home screen. The app is called "Email".I didn't get the built in email app. where is it?

I'm starting to find a nice niche for the fire. It's a great couch device and I'm pleasantly surprised by the sound output (both through the speakers and through headphones).

What's it called? There's a free enhanced email app, or there was on the 15th. I also got the trial version of the exchange app, which has a 30 day trial period and appears too work flawlessly as an outlook substitute. Both in the app store, naturally.
Enhanced Email, I believe ...What's it called?
What about reading the internets? Like, say, GAF and stuff. If the main purpose is reading, avoid the fire.
That's what I've been doing, and it's wonderful for it :-DWhat about reading the internets? Like, say, GAF and stuff.

Edit: I want a Fire or an Ipad mainly because I don't want to have to lug around my laptop all day around my campus to look up political news, get on twitter/GAF/facebook (etc). I'm leaning toward the Fire cause it's cheaper.

Wasn't planing on doing work on it. Just browsing.Mobile apps GAF is perfect. Too small for jumbo GAF comfort. No good for work, tbh.
I finally got my Kindle Fire in after it went through a 3-day ordeal in Japanese customs... they even opened the package. Luckily, everything was intact.
I'm pleasantly surprised so far. All the negative remarks I had heard made me think this would be another first gen iPhone or something ridiculous. But having gone in with the expectation of wanting the device for consuming content, I'm quite pleased. The web browser works just fine and in widescreen mode, the screen's smaller size is not a problem at all. It's resolution is also very good, IMO.
Reading books is also a nice experience; the text is easily readable and the screen size makes it feel like I'm reading a book, unlike the iPad (which feels like I'm reading an essay written on paper). In Japan, the video streaming functionality doesn't work due to region locking, but that's not a big deal for me at the moment.
There are quirks that need to be worked out; it really needs a physical Home Button, non-English keyboard support, a more customizable front menu, and more native (non-scaled) apps. Some touchscreen gestures don't work as intended, but the frequency this occurs isn't what I was dreading from the things I had read about.
Overall, I can sense tons of potential in this device, even within the first generation. A couple of firmware upgrades would hopefully flush out the quirks that typically accompany new products, and the next gen will hopefully be lighter, have a camera/Bluetooth support and be even faster. At the price Amazon offers this at, I wouldn't mind upgrading every 2 years.
Am I misremembering that wireless networks use different frequencies in different regions? This is from reading some documentation on wireless network interface drivers for GNU/Linux a while back... So what happens when you try to use a wireless device from the U.S. in Europe or Asia? But everything works as intended, despite the fact you're in Japan and not the US?
I live in Europe myself and have considered asking my girlfriend to bring one over from NY when she returns in January.

How does the Fire handle pic or gif-heavy threads on gaf? Lots of slowdown or does it just randomly crash like my iPad 1?
This is what I was remembering (from wikipedia):802.11 is a world standard. They all work as intended.
While I don't know for sure, this sounds like hardware needs to be prepared to deal with quirks from area to area. *shrug*Availability of channels is regulated by country, constrained inpartbyhow each country allocates radio spectrum to various services. At one extreme, Japan permits the use of all 14 channels for 802.11b, while other countries such as Spain initially allowed only channels 10 and 11, and France only allowed 10, 11, 12 and 13. They now allow channels 1 through 13. [15][16] North America and some Central and South American countries allow only 1 through 11.
Pretty much.I finally got my Kindle Fire in after it went through a 3-day ordeal in Japanese customs... they even opened the package. Luckily, everything was intact.

That can't be reiterated enough, the shipping firmware was terrible. It never should have been released in that state, they should have held off the release if they had to, anything but use that firmware. And it wasn't just a sluggish UI either, not a single app I installed from Amazon's store would run after being installed nor did the system ever tell me there was an update. I turned it off and went to put it back in its box and it turned itself back on and updated so I checked it out and it was a lot better. It was a bad first impression. After preordering and then canceling I decided to just go for it and buy one based on some reviews in this thread. I'm glad I did. This is the perfect size for me to lounge around with and browes/read. Thanks to the update on first boot I'm getting a good experience right off the bat, so for others that are lurking for more feedback as I was, whatever major slowness there was at the beginning of the thread hasn't been encountered here.
Ugh, I'd say pretty poor. The storage is small and unexpandable when away from Wifi and the available streaming services like Amazon Prime don't look that hot either. Honestly, despite the not quite HD resolution of the screen I still expected it to look better than it does just because of the small size of the screen, and it's not exactly a terrible resolution in the first place. They're either sending out low bandwidth versions to the fire or the fire just plain sucks at video, either way if that's your main want or need from the device I can not at this time recommend the Kindle Fire.So how's this thing as essentially a portable movie watcher? Because that's what I'd use it for if I got it.

I had this problem until I realized I was skipping a step.I downloaded KeePassDroid, which supposedly is cleared for my Kindle Fire from the Amazon Appstore only to find out copy and paste doesn't work with the Kindle Fire making the app useless.
