I don't like how she lost her 97 / 98 version of her Tornado Kick.

I never liked the two quick-hit knockdown version. I always liked the multi-hitting rising spin kicks better to be honest, despite they were very unsafe on block and left her open to be crossover / back comboed, they did make for a good meterless BnB finisher though.

On that subject. Is there any footage of KOFXIV that shows that anyone getting one getting combo'd on a wake up or cross up situation like in the earlier games in which you were basically hitting the opponent in the back with them completely facing away from you.

That is one mechanic I found interesting in that some hits didn't cause your hit animation to immediately turn around and face the opponent. It was especially dangerous during a failed roll recovery and your back is just wide open for all kinds of abuse.

That spin kicks move is part of her CDM in XIV.

Can't remember seeing that cross up situation occur in any of the XIV footage yet, though then again it doesn't occur all that often in the 2D games either.

Fairly certain. Steam's worked out rather well for SNK, IIRC.

That and SNK has been referring to XIV as a PS4 console exclusive for 2016 since the game was revealed at TGS last year.

They probably just want to finish the game and get it running properly (netcode, balance etc.) on one platform first and then porting it.

SNK would have to be fools to not already have a PC version being worked on. The Steam port is likely the main way the game will get exposure in other places of the world where the PS4 is still priced too high.

I just hope that the net code is good enough for crossplay. Even better if a substantial DLC campaign is in the works for both versions.

KOF always had a Japanese manga/anime-inspired drawing style, i.e. How certain facial features are drawn, hair styles, etc. It's different than saying it looks like an anime, which would mean something from Arc System Works or Street Fighter Alpha.

Definitely would not use photorealistic nor cartoonish to describe it.
The official art attempted to go for a realistic look, but the in-game art was more animeish compared to it due to the shading, even if it was more subtle than what you'd get in anime with as many different color shades. The shading of the sprites also clearly indicated they wanted something more realistic than what we'd see with Street Fighter Alpha or Guilty Gear's art styles. However, the in-game art for portraits and illustrations since KoF99 looked even more like a standard anime. It was much cleaner than in the previous games, with the shading working more like you'd expect out of anime-style illustrations.

Although, on the other hand, 99 and 00 likely have the most realistic official art in the series. Then an overall more animeish art style took over even for the official art starting from 2001. And then there was the overall art style of KoFXII and XIII, from sprites to illustrations.

I'm generally talking about the sprite aesthetic. Something about how they used semi-realistic shading among other things.

Like, compare a Street Fighter sprite to a KoF sprite.

I think we are aware. Both our posts allude to the fact that KOF uses more realistically shaded sprites than an anime-inspired game like SFA. Not sure what your "other things" are but my point was that "looking anime" can have multiple meanings. Some people say Final Fantasy games "look anime" and those are full 3D renders.

I'm currently trying out KOF 2000 on ps4. Arcade sticks can be used. Start and select can only be used on touch-pad. Pressing both sides of the touch-pad activates soft reset. The soft filter in the game permanent and don't look good on the characters. Scanlines and art background can be used.

KOF13 looks so outdated compared to this game.

Agreed. I never was too fond of kof 13's graphics to be honest. Something just looked off about the characters. They were low res aswell.

Im in the kof14 camp. The look is coming along nicely. Still needs improvements, but its getting there.

Agreed that this game sort of returns to that Shinkiro-inspired pseudo-real anime look that KOF had always had. KOF XII and XIII always looked like outliers in the franchise to me, and Nona's art direction was just too eclectic. Not to mention the strange decision to make those sprites for 480p in midst of the HD gaming era.

Technical issues notwithstanding, the KOF XIV visuals just seem a lot more of a logical evolution of classic SNK.

I agree with all of you. The graphics of KOF XIII are too damn overrated. I don't know why people want these kind of graphics back.

480p pixel art sprites which makes the characters blurry as hell when you're playing the game on Native 1080p HDTV's with characters looking outright atrocious (looking at you,Terry, Yuri, Ralf, Clark, Takuma/Mr. Karate & Billy).

Roid rage Clark and Orochi Doppo Takuma are glorious.

I didn't mind Takuma taking after Doppo Orochi, but Clark and Ralf which looked their diet consisted of 100% protein shakes was a bit off putting, especially when their official artwork never showed them to be that overly muscular.

I never saw Clark to rely on raw muscle for his throws and seemed more like the quiet and cool technical grab specialist. So seeing him like that in XIII was strange.

Terry on the other hand I didn't mind his slightly beefier design since it reminded me of his build from Real Bout.

Real Bout Terry was my favorite incarnation of Terry, so anything that reminds me of that specific design is a winner in my opinion.

Lady on the left has got to be Vanessa (or maybe Mary).

I want to say the guy in the middle is either Terry or Clark (what other KoF character has a cap?), but they're already in the game.

Also where is this from?

Fake.

Also, it would be much better if they spent the time and resources creating a new FF/AOF/LB/SS instead of adding 16 characters to a 50 character roster.

Must be shadows for alt outfits

The caption says "DLC character" in Japanese.

The one on the left looks like Mature. Not really sure who the other two could be.

EDIT: Fail. I forgot she's already part of the stock roster, lol. This cast is too big & the trailer drip-feed too slow.

Not sure about that image, but I'd absolutely be in love with Vanessa as a DLC character.

Also, they should bring back Oswald or just release a good PC port of KoFXI

Seems super fake. Random twitter guy just going to randomly have a random picture of DLC characters that for some reason is blacked out...ok

Man I had a freaky KoF-related dream last night which is rare for me. And since things are kinda slow this week, I thought why not share while I still remember it.

I dreamed I was on a plane (commercial airline). I was in my seat, reading some kind of magazine that was mostly talking about KoF XIV. But then I noticed a render of Yuri that looked like her XIV model, but the caption said "Yuri in SvC Chaos REVOLUTION". I thought, "Holy Crap! Did SNK stealth reveal a new SvC game? I gotta post this on GaF, a lot of people probably missed this!" I was trying to browse GAF but I was having trouble posting (could have something to do with internet not being available on flights)

I then hear someone say, "Internet trouble?" I turn my head and sitting next to me is Robert Downey Jr. He looks at what I'm reading and goes "KoF fan, huh? Yeah me too." I then say "I'm such a huge fan. I don't have anything to sign your autograph with, maybe you can sign my magazine here?" And he goes, "Yeah, no, I'm not signing that." And he gets up and leaves. And then my cat wakes me up. I couldn't help but think how much I wished SvC Chaos REVOLUTION was a real thing.

Didn't Maxima have an Iron Man palette in XIII?

If Downey Jr was a bit taller he could play a decent Rugal, it's not like he doesn't have some experience with playing overconfident arms dealers.

Wonder who's stage this will end up being!

The teams whose stages haven't been revealed yet:

Art of Fighting
Yagami
Kim
Mai
Villian

It looks more like a boss stage though.

I was really hoping for our first team trailer today. Need website updates or.. something.

Holly batman reach! This character!

Does look quite nice. I love how KoF has projectile-like stuff that's not clearly a projectile. It's a detail they (and SNK fighters in general) really explore, that I never feel as strongly in other fighters.

So she's like the new Yamazaki.

In only that move. Nothing else matches at all, but it should be a nice consolation for those who don't have him in the game yet.

Inert Ball of the Day

I kinda like Nako's look in this game. She's definitely less cutesy (which Athena has covered as her twin), and more serious-looking.

I wish Geese's command grab looked like his RBFF2 version again. That guy was checking pockets for loose change like a fiend.

Heh, that barely makes sense for the throw, lol. "Nice Knees!" But I wouldn't mind seeing him get some Real Bout tech, too! Terry, Andy, Mai, they all have target combos, will Geese get some?

I think this (and the Great Wall) stage have some great looks to them, so far. Though we'll have to see how the colors for this turn out in game.

Xrd generally have a lot of those but things with "special properties" is GG motto.

Speaking of, what happen in KoF when you reflect static projectiles like Leona's Baltic Launcher?

It's pretty bad that the first thing that comes to mind for me (Besides Johnny's iaido slashes) is Baiken's Tatami's, ha. Not like I'll be seeing her again anytime soon... :-/

The first thing I thought of when I saw Mai's new EX fan (hit's a blocked opponent, bounced off them towards them, and falls in an arch) is Anji Mito as well! ;-/

Anywho! I... don't think I've ever seen Baltic reflected by anything like Kula's counter shell, or Athena's reflection. I want to say the projectile just beats it cleanly. Would be pretty funny to see Ryo's Ko'ou ken hit him right back in the face...
