The art-style and characters of Tangled and Frozen really suits Kingdom Hearts, so I would like to see one of those worlds in Kingdom Hearts III. The characters just seem like they could really get along well with Sora. Tangled would be complicated, because the movie doesn't really have a plot that would suit Kingdom Hearts. The same goes for Beauty and the Beast though, so... why not?^^
Frozen's world could also be where Sora learns Ice/ra/ga. It seems like a really interesting and beautiful world.

I've said it before but I'd like to see a Haunted Mansion world. They're giving Sora powers based on rides in KH3, so a world based on the ride wouldn't be too far fetched. Plus, I loved the designs for the Halloweentown Heartless, but I don't think Nightmare Before Christmas would be coming back, so they would be able to show up there.

I'd also like to see some kind of corruption ability with Sora's darkness. Something along the lines of Anti Sora but with a different downside and you can trigger it at will.

A thought occurred to me.

Kingdom Hearts: Ground Zeroes.

Would they really do it? Would Square-Enix release a prologue chapter to Kingdom Hearts III as a sampler to hold rabid fans over while they continue working on the rest? For better or worse, Konami blew the doors open on consoles for other companies to follow a similar business model for their AAA titles (though, to be honest: didn't Gran Turismo do it first?). A lot of people seem to think that there's no way KHIII could be ready until 2016 at the earliest, and with the only other KH release being II.5 ReMix coming this year and nothing else announced as of yet, that leaves 2015 potentially without a major KH title slated for release. Squeenix was pretty adamant about having at least one title ready for every year...

And in this hypothetical situation where Square-Enix is bold enough to try such a thing, should we condemn them or applaud them? For that matter, what would it even be about? Distribution model? Acceptable price point?

Didn't Nomura already state that KH3D was like a prologue chapter? That's if I recall correctly.

Pretty much. KH 3D was like KH3: Part 1.

Assuming FF XV comes out next year (or, well, anytime before KH3), they could bundle a KH3 demo with it.

No, I mean using the engine they've developed for KHIII and creating a short playable scenario that leads into the greater story of KHIII as a means of off-setting development costs and providing something of substance to a hungry fanbase.

Actually, I think SE did something like this before but on a smaller scale: the exclusive downloable Prologue a.k.a. paid demo of Duodecim Dissidia? I don't know, I just think they wouldn't be completely opposed to the idea, especially if the game is delayed.

I would like it if it were Kairi based. I also want DLC chapters a la FFXIII-2 with scenarios for extra characters. Sort of like how Left Behind was for The Last of Us or Burial at Sea for Bioshock Infinite.

Am I missing anything other than enhanced visuals and better music?

Yes. Buy all the KHs so we'll get more in the future.

To actually answer your question, no with 1.5, as far as I know. Just enhanced visuals and music. And Days in movie form, of course.

II.5 has been announced to be adding a lot of content. Particularly in RE:coded

Never played Kingdom Hearts before, I was planning on picking up the hd collections before the third game but I saw some people discussing the possibility of a PS4 hd collection? Is this realistic? Should I hold off?

That's cool, cheers for the quick reply. So the 1.5 collection, the 2.5 when it comes out theeeen the 3ds game is the only one outside of those right? Those three and I'll be all set for the new one? In that order right. (I honestly would only really want the PS4 version if it happened for remote play; you can only make 10 year old/portable games look so good, but you can't beat the luxury of playing on a handheld in my household haha)

Are you asking about play order? The ReMixes aren't actually for new players; they are for longtime series fans. 358/2 Days actually spoils major plot points of KH2.

The proper play order is:

  • Kingdom Hearts
  • Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts II
  • 358/2 Days
  • Birth by Sleep
  • coded
  • Dream Drop Distance
  • Kingdom Hearts III

That will cause the least amount of confusion

Yes, I did mean order haha. I was referring to (at least, I meant to haha) the kingdom hearts 1.5 hd remix collection, and the upcoming 2.5 hd remix collection. These are no good for new players? I thought the idea behind these was to catch up new players for the 3rd game eventually coming out, so I ki9nd of had the assumption in my mind they would also be in a playable order, storywise. So I was asking if I'd be all good playing the current hd collection, then the new one when it arrives, and finally the 3ds game and then I would be good for the new game releasing? I was under the impression the two hd collections would encapsulate most those games on your list and at least the plot points of the ones that aren't. I definitely won't be tracking down the PS2 originals or anything.

What DreamDrop said is absolutely true. People new to the franchise should steer clear of 358/2 until after playing KH2 unless you don't mind the plot being spoiled (convoluted or not).

When 2.5's out, then yes, both together are a great jumping-on point for people new to the franchise. Up until that point, the inclusion of 358/2 in 1.5 before the rerelease of 2 seems to be an unfortunate requirement of the logistics of getting all the canon (aside from DDD) into two neat HD packages, since there were two numbered games and 5 'spinoffs'.

Edit: In your specific case, probably best to pick up 1.5 HD now, play 1 Final Mix and let that digest, then come back and play Chain of Memories (Trust me, you'll appreciate the break considering how much old ground the game covers, without spoiling too much) and then shelve 358/2 and wait for 2.5 HD. Remember the 358/2 on 1.5 HD ReMIX is simply cutscenes with no gameplay, so you're not missing out much on a gaming experience- it's there for plot and so you don't have to slog through the (subjectively questionable) original version of 358/2.

OR a full on HD remaster of DDD the game. Could happen, DS4 has a touchpad

Like I said man, it's really just remote play that I'd be holding out for, but agreed, I wouldn't be waiting thinking they would be overhauled even further.

Nah. Basically all of the touchpad stuff in DDD also uses the second screen. Also DDD needs way more work than KH1FM/KH2FM/BBSFM to make it "complete." It's much more incomplete than even Japan-launch KH1 or vanilla KH2.

Better resource allocation and more likely to just use the cutscenes, IMO.

Two remastered games do not a trend make, particularly as none of them are remastered collections.

I don't think it'd happen because of a trend or pattern, I think it'd happen because it'd be money in the bag for Square-Enix/Disney and there's zero incentive for them not to do it.

(Especially because they're probably smart enough not to throw out the source code this time around.)

Add #Driveclub from Eventually Studios to the list of late 2014 games that gets release info before 2.5. We are also two days away from May.

The only thing that gives some peace to my heart is that E3 is only 6 weeks away and I doubt even SE would be cruel enough to not give any info when that hits.

I doubt that the source code to the previous KH games was deleted because they didn't have ways of storing it (pretty much every development company worth their salt keeps tape backups of that stuff anyway). It was probably an information security thing (not wanting fans to get copies of the actual source code and making total conversions to the game and so on), back when there was no evident advantage to keeping the source code around anywhere (albeit stored securely).

Nah, don't delete it. You want the source code around for numerous reasons (asset reuse, updates to the game, legal evidence in event of lawsuits).

What you do is you put it in a secure location(s), then just leave it (with monitoring in place!) until you need it.

This IS assuming that they wanted the secure fashion, and weren't just acting like an IT company unconcerned with security.

Right. It's just that for KH 1.5 HD Remix, they apparently had to recreate the game based on the retail code and didn't have the source code any longer. With most HD conversions, that could be explained away by not wanting to send the source code to external/outsource developers, but KH 1.5 HD and KH 2.5 HD are internal Square-Enix projects.

I agree that it still would've made sense to secure it if they were being forward-thinking about things, but apparently the original source code was *gone.*

I would like to see Terra interact with Riku, but the way things are going, it's getting less and less likely that
Terra will get his body back. He got possessed. Then his heart got booted from his body and his mind went into his armor, then his body got split into two beings, then those beings recombined to form the person who had possessed him. That's a lot to undo.

Yeah. And I'm pretty sure his heart hasn't been booted from his body - it's just currently still struggling with MX's heart. Not only is there nothing to suggest that his heart has left his body (the Lingering Will is *not* his heart), Xemnas continued to act as though he had some of Terra's memories and friendships manifesting themselves occasionally.

And Terranort being split into two beings and then recombining gets us *closer* to Terra's return, not farther away.

I'm questioning whether or not he'll live through his arc. I'm expecting something along the lines of Riku's possession. Wouldn't Sora saving the day and everything going back to normal with little to no losses be a little weird? I don't want it to end up being "Hey guys, I'm completely fine now. My body was under the control of 3 different entities not counting myself but it's all cool now."

I know that the Lingering Will isn't his heart. It's his mind. Why did Terranort reform into Master Xehanort instead of Terranort?
