Knack (PS4) Announced

I really hope Sony, specifically SCEJ, goes back to making 3d platformers or just platformers in general.

I miss the days of Crash, Spyro, Ape Escape, Ratchet and Clank, Sly and Jax and Daxter.

Knack and Puppeteer are promising starts. Imagine what Ratchet and Clank or Ape Escape will look like on the PS4.

I hope they bring back Dark Cloud that was Sony's Zelda, don't know why they stopped.

I was mostly impressed by this. not gameplay but I wonder how close they can come to pulling this off in gameplay.

Just downloaded the HD gamersyde video and that sequence above looks CG quality. I'm having a hard to believing that's realtime. What do you guys reckon? I believe the trailer was in-game but that part looked a notch higher in quality, giving it a ray traced look.

Still looking forward to seeing more at E3.

And just quickly, been reading on B3D that Knack uses UE4.
 
I thought it was a new trailer or something!

Just read through countless whining though..

yeah, I am not sure if that sequence in the trailer was in game...Lighting looked incredible there. The gameplay footage shown didn't look as impressive as that, but that could have been because of the animation being so rough and the fact that the feed was pretty low quality/zoomed out...
 
Seems like no one is really hyped for this game, but I honestly found this to be my favorite game shown at the PS4 conference. I like the bright colors and the Pixar-esque art direction. It's nice to have a game not grounded in reality.

I'm mostly waiting to see more. I love platformers, there was a distinct lack of platforming in what they showed. There was definitely a Crash Bandicoot vibe there, but yeah. I need to see some platforming before getting hyped.

Don´t shoot me, but I´d rather play this than KZ4. Just love games like Ratchet, Jak and Sly.

Right there with ya, though I have little interest in KZ and most FPSs.

Well, Puppeteer is a 2D platformer. But yeah, I'm very pleased that Sony is still making platformers on both the PS3 and PS4. The genre can use all the support it can get.
 
It's just not super compelling art direction. This is the kind of game I'd get all over, but the title character just... doesn't really get it done.

I'm sure it'll have some great features, and some great ways to display the hardware. But thus far as a character that stays with you, this doesn't really hit the right notes.

Obviously we'll see.
 
And just quickly, been reading on B3D that Knack uses UE4.

Its not UE4. Eurogamer reported that few minutes after Knack trailer at PSMeeting. That would be around 1AM EU time, they probably made a mistake because Cerney demoed UE4 few minutes before trailer. He 100% never mentioned that the game was running on UE4.
 
having read through the entire thread, looks like the support is divided.
It don't know if someone noticed but there is a stark contrast between the art style and the explosions going on in the background that remind me of an old arcade came called Aliens. When you blow up aliens with the missile launcher.

Anyway, the physics looks ace. I whish they can pull more effects (reflexions, shadows, etc.) but already up there on my most wanted. Enough Ratchet with ps3.

Now if only japan studio would make the ultimate old school shott them up or if bitmap brothers would reunite again to make Xenon 3...
 
So, do we know which shots are in game, and which are pre-rendered? Some of those shots in the OP look amazing. Like a bad Pixar movie or something.
 
I wish there was a technical analysis on this game too from digital foundry etc. It looks like CG in some scenes.
But i am not liking the ArtStyle and may be this has some thing to do with not enough discussion for it
 
i was thinking over the weekend, i have a serious craving for some LUSh HD nextgen patformer set in some gorgeous toonish tropical island of sorts..

you know... like the orig J&D ... or the island pilot wings 64 was set on ..or something! ... just bleeding edge next gen though ...

Oh god yes. A Nex gen lush green world would be so good. Looks like knack will fit in nicely.
 
I feel as if 'Knack' is getting overlooked a bit in the graphics department and it's because it doesn't have a realistic art style like Infamous 3, KZ, Deep Down, and the others. This game looked CG for most of that trailer, it was unbelievable. But it's cartoony so I'm not sure it'll get the recognition it deserves for its technical prowess. Think about it, Cerny is the guy that's running the show for Knack and he also was huge in designing the PS4 hardware so if there's a game that can make the most out of the hardware early on it'll be from Cerny and his team.

The gameplay looked very early...I doubt this is a launch title. BTW This was all real time, during one of those gameplay segments they showed cloaked Knack running through a ventilation duct.
 
The game will probably be good but I would have loved jack and dexter. I also wonder about that leak for crash. New ips are always good anyways.
 
But it had problems like screen tearing, objects disappearing, general quality problems. if it were a launch title they would have given it a bigger presence like shadow fall.

I don't want to argue about whether the game will be there at launch or not, but I think your argument is flawed.
Killzone is a known IP in the most popular genre right now. It isn't surprising that it had a much bigger presence than a new IP in a kinda niche genre which doesn't interest many of the core Playstation demographic.
