'Knockout King' and other crimes are scaring the hell out of me.

Black on white crime is pretty low, why are you obsessing over this shit? There's an agenda behind he propogating of this stuff...

If there is an epidemic of violence in this country it's black on black crime. Throw people in a box with guns and drugs and see what happens.

I don't have any agenda, I don't condone random violent against anyone. I just want to see stuff like this being talked about more, so people are more aware about things like this. Maybe bringing awareness to this will help make those people realize that you can't gang up on people randomly and just get away with it.

If you didn't have an agenda why did you mention ferguson and baltimore that had nothing to do with the issue you were bringing up?

One idea that your posts have given me is for police to simply treat suspects with more aggression, that way they are more likely to be caught. Now, what physical chracteristics have you suggested about the perpetrators could the police use to single out potential criminals? That is a tough one.
Or... just have like some congressman do a press conference and talk about this stuff.
If you didn't have an agenda why did you mention ferguson and other places that had nothing to do with the issue you were bringing up?
What kind of agenda do you think I even have?

I guess your definition of very rare is different from mine.

Lightning strikes and Shark attacks? no. Because those are things where we can't really do much about them.

Serial killers, yes. I mean who wouldn't be. But stuff like this, senseless violent against random unsuspecting innocents, people can do something about stuff like this. That's why I care.

Let's not conflate the idea that you think you can do something about it with the idea that you can actually do anything about it (at least in a direct way).

Just because people from earlier times thought they could influence the weather by appealing to their gods, doesn't mean that's what they actually did.

In reality, what you'll actually do is simply whip people into a frenzy of fear, uncertainty and doubt, much like the one you're experiencing now, that is out of proportion with the risk and degree of the threat. Moreover, that FUD will be racially tinged, in turn actuating more unnecessary fear and confirmation bias against black people, which further contributes to the implicit (and explicit) forms of racism that is still all too common nowadays.

Pretty damn solid post right there

Really?...OP I can't tell if you're trolling or not you can't honestly think these two things hold the same weight..can you?

The agenda typical of white right wingers. They think that black violence against white people is being under-reported while they complain about the reporting of Baltimore and Ferguson. You know, your OP.

Why do "certain" people get so mad when you say the n-word but then those same people call others Honky and nobody cares?

Oh man, good call. That will put a stop to it. Phew. I feel better about it already.
Glad I can help.

Back when I was in middle school. The boys had this stupid cup check thing going around. Where they would just randomly punch each other in the crotch, one kid got seriously injured cause another kid just did it too hard. Even those who weren't participating were not safe. It got so bad that the principal had to have a meeting in the auditorium about it with all the boys and why it was such a bad thing. After that, it never happened again.

Yes cop killing innocent is bad and I never wish it upon anyone, I certainly don't want it happen to me. But at the same time I don't want anyone to walk down the street and randomly get attacked by a mob of people just because they think it's fun and game.

Ah well you figured me out. I'm Caucasian.

What does that do?

You want less crime in urban areas, focus on ending poverty, decriminalizing drugs, better education funding.

You know, real solutions.

Honestly just the possibility that someone can transform into a Great Ape keeps me from ever stepping outside my home.

I slept better during those few nights after King Piccolo destroyed the moon than I ever have in my entire life.

And those are fine solutions! If that what's going to help stop random crimes like this. Then I'm all for it.

Actually depends on the drugs.

Haha, this is too much.

His friend that linked to WND maybe. OP to me just sounds really, really naive.

Why didn't you frame the thread simply as "why aren't I hearing more about these Knockout King crimes?" What good did it do to bring Ferguson and Baltimore to the mix?

You just brought so much unnecessary baggage with race relations just by bringing those cases up and trying to compare their severity to these crimes.

I'm not trying to instill fear in people, I just think stuff like this need to be talked about more.

Ok, but I'm just baffled as to why. We've already agreed that this isn't an epidemic. It's not any more prevalent than any other type of crime in particular. Should we be raising awareness of muggings? Murders?

What is it about this particular crime that raises it to salience and demands that more people be made aware of it?

I feel like some of these crimes might have some sort of racially motivation involved. As I said above, I could have said Kaitlyn Jenner, but yes I apologize for bringing up Ferguson and Baltimore.

The flash mob thing worried me because it seem like people just think "hey we should get some people together and go down to the local grocery store, beat up some people."

Man, OP, if you were going to post stuff to be scared about atleast be realistic. On point, muggings are scary bro. Friend was mugged in broad daylight by a guy in a gun. Scary as hell. Heard it's worse on college campus.

Do you think that there's a racial component to the large number of unarmed black people being killed by police?

A classmate of mine was almost raped on campus walking to her car. Different case, one time I was on a trip to a courthouse, we were watching a court case (this is for a college class) a classmate of mine told me that the guy being charged for rape was someone she went to high school with. She was shocked to see him there. I was just like.. damn.
Have you had an encounter/experience of this kind of violence in your past, op?

I lives in a somewhat shady neighborhood, never gotten beaten up like these cases here. But when I was younger, there were a few times when I was stopped by some older teens (I was like 10). They pushed me around, called me racial names, a few hits here and there, but they usually let me go afterward.

Things have gotten better since. Neighborhood isn't as bad as it used to be.
Not sure what race has to do with the first example.
it didn't say so in that article, but it was a group of african-american teenagers.

The "Knockout Game" scare is specifically about it being an epidemic. If you know it's not an epidemic, and it's something that barely ever happens, then what are you scared of? Are you also scared of being struck by lightning?

Only this type.

Okay, there really isn't much you can do about random crimes like this. It's not like we live in A Clockwork Orange. It's usually young males doing dumb shit, which is what young males are good at. People have been driving around and shooting at stop signs for fun since forever. Guess what, there are plenty of cases of those shots killing other drivers, passengers in the same car, even hitting windows and killing people in their house. Same mentality, bored kids doing dumb stuff. Now are your house windows made of bulletproof glass?

The frequency at which the knockout kings stuff happens doesn't require some huge response. And it's done for attention, so drawing attention to it has the opposite result that what you think it was. We already have laws about assault that cover it...people that do this know what will happen if they get caught. Making it some national headline just puts it into more heads, without detering anyone. Someone isn't going to say "Hey. I was going to beat the shit out of a random person but my congressman said it was a bad idea so I better not."

Go to your local police station and talk to a detective. You are way more likely to be hurt or killed by someone you know, as opposed to a stranger, by a huge margin. But if you took it from the news, every quiet neighbor is a serial killer.

The flash mob thing worried me because it seem like people just think "hey we should get some people together and go down to the local grocery store, beat up some people."

Well, that was the angle the news story took. Again though, is this really an epidemic, or is this a thing that has happened a couple of times that gets conflated into a big scary thing we need to worry about?

And even if it was a thing, again, what's the point of "raising awareness"?

Fair enough. I agree.

I'm just hoping more parents will talk to their children, I suppose. It reminded me of that mother during the Ferguson riots, she saw her kid rioting like that and proceeded to teach him a lesson.
The worst about you Shadownet is. Not only are you a racist. But your the worst type of racist. A racist that completely unaware of just how racist you actually are.

You're actually complaining about how much coverage Baltimore and Ferguson has gotten? REALLY? Black folks have been subjugated, abused and out right FUCKING MURDERED for over 400 years, and we still have to exist in a society where institutionalize racism dogs us at every level. But a few weeks of coverage how just how sick and tired we are of this shit is just too much for you?
You don't know me googleplex. Just as I don't know any of you. So please don't start throwing around accusations. I never once said I was tired of the media coverage of Baltimore or Ferguson. I said I wish the crimes I listed get talked about more like what happened in Ferguson or Baltimore. But gaffers like Cyan and Grizzlyjin made sense with what they posted and I came to agree with them.

But if this is what you want to do, then go ahead. I know what I am, and it's not what you think.

What one is doing is often quite different from what one is trying to do due to the nature of ignorance and externalities.

Back when I was in middle school. The boys had this stupid cup check thing going around. So you think that there's some crowd dynamics that will lead this to be an epidemic of some sort? Even though it's been shown that it's isolated and not an epidemic?

Why do you persist in implying that this will be the thing that it's not? Do you know thousands of people die every year by slipping over on tiles? Why are you not raising more awareness about that preventable issue?

Look. You might not think you're been racist - few racist* people often think they are. But you better check your own internal thoughts and motivations and examine why you feel compelled to make *this* an issue over other things that could be 'an issue'. Are you a patsy of a society that likes to dress up its racism with tangential issues that have very little merit when examined under a critical scope?

Because racism is a difficult issue, and one that can only be reduced at this point when people have the honesty and wherewithal to examine and scrutizine their own subconscious thought biases.

*and I'd like to qualify that racism isn't an either or kinda issue. Everyone is racist along a spectrum of racism. And been 'blind' to it doesn't make one the least degree of racist possible.

There is no way on earth this is a real thread.

It pretty obviously is not.

If the non/evasive answers to a few questions and the casual slide from race issues to transgender issues didn't tip anyone off, I'd imagine throwing in the 'ferguson mom of the year' for no real reason should probably do it.

If the OP is being sincere it's more effective to show the faulty comparisons than call him or her a racist.

You're basically shutting him or her out by resorting to name calling. There's no way to persuade someone after that.

Well the good news about the thread is we have elected a new official GAF Knockout King. Namely, myself. I expect a fancy plaque or trophy autographed by both EviLore and Bish mailed to my place within the week. Listen if I'm gonna be champ I expect the works. The Mayweather of the interweb's if you will.

I already got my cell phone ready, prepared to do some sweet KO's on some reddit folks ASAP
