Kojima: No Platinum Trophy for Ground Zeroes because not a full-priced game.

people care about trophies

or achievements?

come on people we're better than this
I sometimes choose not to play games if they don't have good trophies, or have difficult ones. It's honestly the only thing that forces me to play games to completion. Probably the best idea MS brought to gaming. PEACE.

I don't want people get platinum's for $0.99 'Pong remix' games.

I mostly like the way it works, except for Sony displaying clear favoritism.

Those games probably just passed the criteria.

Does it really matter if people get platinumes from cheap games? People obsessed withy trophies/achievements will play anything and everything, including japanese interactive novels and other very shitty games. All I want is to be rewarded in the games I like and enjoy, the first and only game I got just for platinum was Zombie Driver HD, after that I decided to not waste my time on shitty games for easy trophies.

But that's not the point. They clearly could push for the platinum, since there are lot of games that are DD only and can be platinumed in 3 hours or so. It's just that Kojima is either making excuses, or Sony has double standards when it comes to their own exclusives or some indie games.

Doesn't make any sense. If this had a platinum it would have justified a day one purchase for me. Now that it doesn't I'm waiting for a sale before I buy it, or to grab it on gamefly. Whichever one comes first.

I'm sure their regulation isn't foolproof, but I feel like they got it right with Ground Zeroes.

If you consider Ground Zeroes releasing as DLC for a larger game, it's clear it isn't a Platinum trophy experience. Similar to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (that is more deserving, it seems) and Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry.

As much as you can put games in two tiers, Ground Zeroes occupies the "smaller content game" tier more comfortably.
Yeah but a ground zeros plat would most likely still take more work than walking dead which required no skill. I loved the walking dead but anyone could get a plat in that game, ground zeros could at least have some skill based trophies. Also Resogun can be beaten in less time than ground zeros and that has a plat

This reminds me of something hilarious.

Farming Simulator 2013 is a retail release for PS3 and it costs 39,99$

There's also Farming Simulator 2013 for the Vita, its a port from mobile and it costs 9.99$

The funny thing is that Sony lists the game as a "Full Game" on PSN and not a "PSN game". C'mon Sony let us get that plat!

This is probably the case. Had it been a digital download only, it would be eligible for a platinum just like any other title that doesn't receive a physical however, this is a retail game and it's $29.99 so it must fall out of those guidelines.

Angry Birds was retail and not full price and has a plat though.

Knew I should made this thread earlier but anyways this game has short length painted all over it.

As someone who owns it, the game is short but satisfying. I'm still not sure I'd say it's $29.99 worth of content though.

The lack of a Plat rubs me the wrong way as well.

It was $49.99 right? Would full retail be between $49.99 and $59.99?

Not sure the price in the US, just know it wasn't a similar RRP to the other PS4/X1 games.

Pretty sure it was $50 here in Australia (same as Ground Zeroes will be) when the other launch games were $100.

(just checked and it was half the price of other retail games in EU too)

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 prologue has 12 trophies and is basically a demo lf TTT 2. The situation with Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain is very similiar.

for $30 and being much smaller than MGS5 is going to be, i agree with it not having a Platinum. from what Alienous said, it sounds like even if a game is exclusive Sony may still not let it have a Platinum if it can't substantiate it with enough content. (but having special deals with Sony at least helps your chances)

to be honest, it's rare that i'm ever scratching my head at the number of trophies a game includes, and usually when that happens it's because there's a Platinum trophy AND there are not many trophies total. (see: Walking Dead)

I'm glad this thread was made to expose people to Kojima's secrecy and shadyness about not including a meaningless trophy in a game.

Arbitrary reasoning, if they felt like it, they could have done it. Don't give a shit about achievements/trophies myself, but that reasoning is horseshit.

No platinum, no buy.

Just kidding.

Trophy regulations? Since when? Maybe someone needs to explain this policy to me, but why would Sony care if you had 10 trophies or 90 trophies in a game? Yeah, as mentioned, there are indie or downloadable games with platinums so I don't know what's going on. I would think adding a platinum to Ground Zeroes could garner some extra sales for trophy hunters? Wait, wasn't the trophy list for Ground Zeroes leaked earlier and it featured a full list of trophies with a platinum? Or is that for a fuller version in the immediate or distant future? Or it was Phantom Pain or something else?

Trophies/achievements are a big thing now for some reason. The number of people who would buy, not buy, or play a game they don't like because of trophies is increasing.

This is one of those things I'll never understand. Maybe I'm just old school and too old (39). I just don't get the obsession with having the trophies. I hate even seeing them pop up and I turn the notifications off on every console.

To think this is going to be a multiple page thread about the fact that you won't be able to earn trophies enough to make them a specific color on this partial game.

I'm around half your age and am exactly the same.

Three things to note:

1. Trophies are just optional meta-goals and the hunt for them isn't much different from the allure of being on the top of a game's leaderboard. They're just ways to show off and to show that you've truly mastered a game (Platinum).

2. I didn't make this thread to shit on Ground Zeroes. But people (read: me) do want to know whats up with trophies in different games and it's seemed pretty arbitrary in terms of which games get a platinum trophy and which don't. That Kojima tweet is the first actual rationale I've heard for deciding one way or another - and even that now seems to be incorrect or misunderstood or missing some important details. That decision, no matter how it was made, does have implications for how content rich Ground Zeroes actually is - that's true. But if so, don't blame me, blame whoever chose not to give the game a platinum - whoever that was.

3. Just to be sure, I don't have a single platinum trophy for any of my dozens of Playstation games, so this isn't a personal agenda or gripe. I've just been absolutely at a loss for how something like a platinum trophy of all things gets approved.

I actually like trophies and let's just say I've been gaming for a relatively long time. I just think they are for bragging rights essentially. Sort of like earning a trophy after winning an award or a championship to display and show off proudly to all of your friends.

If there were challenges worth a platinum trophy, then I would be upset. I've yet to hear of such a thing. I dislike an easy platinum. *Looks at CS GO*

Huh? Plenty of cheaper titles have had Platinums.

Are you sure it's not because Ground Zeroes isn't a full-length game?

Guacamelee took me 6 hours to beat (going to treasure chests as well),
Isnt that like 4-5 times the length of what GZ apparently is? :P

I haven't played it but around 6 hours for 100% completion (all S ranks and collectables) is what I'm anticipating. GZ has 6 or 7 missions I think.

Guacamelee also requires you to play through the game twice(unless you cheat) to platinum it. As you have to beat hard mode which is unlocked after finishing the game.

If by few you mean at least 12 months I agree. Seems like the perfect way to get it in people's hands before the full game ships.

why 12? People are saying Knack, a full game, will be in the IGC by E3 (I agree, Sony needs to ramp up PS+ on PS4 somehow at E3) so why longer for this? If it doesn't go free I can see it being on a sale (which Sony has been KILLING at this year) for plus for like $10 + waaaaay before next march.
