KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

This panel has some slight light on the top corners the other one didn't but I'm going to have to suck it up and live with it.

Now time to see if I can get this xbox one s set up.

Done. Xbox calibration always wants color off one notch than my disney disc.

I still him and haw on color tone but when the xbox 1 asks for warm1 it's really tough to ignore that.
 
I have everything calibrated and working thanks to the thread but for some reason it won't update? It's stuck on 1150 and I Dowloaded the update from the website and put it on a thumb drive and tried it that way and it keeps saying "you are up to date" even though I clearly am behind

Isn't 1150 the latest? I just hooked up the tv and that's what downloaded for me.

Also just to be sure I'm reading this right, when I play a game on my PS4 pro and turn hdr on in the game, I need to manually change the backlight to 20 because it's not doing that automatically in game mode like it does outside of game mode?
 
1152 does seem to be avilable in the US yet. You can manually download it from the Koreom Samsung website and put it on a flash drive.
 
I updated to 1152 and can confirmed that Youtube HDR is now working.

The world in HDR video on youtube looked amazing!!!!!
 
Guys, what are the correct Xbox One S display settings for this TV?

I have mine set to 4K resolution, 10 bit, color space default (limited). HDR games seem to look fine.
 
Are the firmwares the same for all countries? I tried checking yesterday and 1142 was the latest for KS7005 for Finland and Norway but Sweden had 1150 and I think UK KS8000 had 1150.7 or something.
 
It amazes me that crouching tiger hidden dragon is better at showing 4K and HDR than mad max. Holy shit is it beautiful. The power of 35mm continues to be fantastic!

1152 firmware is good :)

It will eventually, but 1152 is only available from the Korean Samsung website for the moment. So those of us who are impatient download it early :)

But my last tv wanted color at 54 while this wants 48

So I would start there.

Can I just view those rtings tests you guys are telling me about on the Web app?

I don't even know what a wow disc is. Also, I don't have a 4K UHD bluray player yet. Hopefully I'll be able to find one on cyber Monday.

The reds are the only color I notice being a bit washed out.

Amazon has the samsung ubd8500 for under $200 now i would jump on that.
 
I just got home with this TV. Does it not have Soundshare (or Soundconnect or whatever)?!?! My sounbar doesn't want to connect to the TV, and I don't have an optical cable and no HDMI slots available...
 
A certain amount of clouding is expected correct? Weirdly enough, I didn't really notice anything until I bought an Xbox One S and started watching Revenant in HDR. Some of the initial title screens were pretty bad in areas, but when watching the movie itself, it is almost unnoticable unless I am really looking for it.

Not sure if it is due to the backlight and contrast being maxed for HDR or not. Don't really want to go through the hassle of a panel replacement unless it is really outside the norm...

It's probably people who did not turn the auto motion plus option or whatever it's called off. I noticed some random stutter with that but when turned off, no problem.

I was as well initially, but many on avsforums have done the update without issue. I did it this morning, and even the readme file in the zip was in english. If you want it go ahead and pull the trigger, i can vouch for its safety.

Did any of your TVs had a protective plastic on the screen similar to those brand new phones have? Friend of mine telling me his did, but I can't tell if there's such a thing on my set.... What the...?

Tons of protective crap on the back and basically the entire plastic portion. I had a giant ass cardboard piece
Covering my screen but no plastic sheet like a phone did
 
Strongly considering a KS8000 since they're $200 off right now at Best Buy, but this gives me pause:

Hdr for gaming!
This is bugged, you will have to manually up the backlight to 20 for hdr game content in gaming mode and back to 5-10 when you are done. Hopefully we get a fix soon

Not trying to dispute what you are saying, but more-so just want to be educated on this. For years I have been under the impression that Full gave a better blacks and brightness...

That guy doesn't have either his TV or PS4 set correctly. Most likely he has his TV set to Full while his PS4 is set to Limited or vice versa. The TV is expecting black to start at 0 and the PS4 is telling it to start at 16 resulting in a washed out image.

The Wii U for example ONLY supports Limited RGB so if you have your TV set to Full, everything looks washed out. If you set your TV to Limited or Auto, the Wii U then looks colorful and proper. I'm willing to bet that half of all Wii U owners have been living with incorrect settings the entire time and just assumed the Wii U looked bad.

Your best bet is to use Auto on the TV and Auto on the PS4. This ensures the sources match and the proper RGB levels are sent. The key is to make both devices match. Full/Full, Auto/Auto or Limited/Limited. All 3 settings should be indistinguishable from each other and will show proper RGB.

Again though, Auto is the best choice followed by Limited for best compatibility. Full should never be used unless you are on a PC (Auto still works).

It hasn't been fixed yet and we're not sure if it will be; I thought it would've been addressed by now as Samsung has been pretty good with releasing firmware updates. However, it really shouldn't be a deal-breaker for a buyer.

It basically just means that when in Game mode, the TV does not store separate settings for SDR and HDR content. With Game mode turned off, the TV will remember these separate settings while in either Standard or Movie mode (Game mode is like an additional setting activated "within" these picture modes). This means that if you use Game mode to achieve lower input lag, it's recommended that you tweak your settings when playing HDR games – however, this is not required. The main adjustment that people make is maxing out the backlight setting with HDR content to see the TV's peak brightness (not really required with SDR content).
 
Another thing to mention is just because a device has the option for Full RGB, it doesn't make it better or that it's going to look brighter or more colorful. All it's doing is telling the device where black begins. It's more of a compatibility setting than anything. As mentioned in my previous post, the Wii U doesn't support Full RGB meaning it only sends RGB with black starting at 16. If you play on a PC monitor, you have to have a graphics card that can set the monitor to Limited or you'll get a washed out image.

Full RGB is intended for people that don't have regular TVs. It should not be confused with "Deep color" which is not related.

Yep. Correct. If you do their calibration after, the eye and sun should all be visible. They recommend Warm 1 for color tone which some will debate.
 
Okay, hard decision time: Pick up the 49" today for $900, or the 55" for $1000 but I have to wait for it to be delivered and won't be able to use it for the entire week I'm taking off for FFXV.

Forgive me if that has been answered already, but is there suggested settings for resolution for my PS4 PRO (2160p - YUV420 versus 2160p - RGB)? Same with the RGB Range, etc?

Why can't you get the 55" in-store? Is there a similar price at any local retailers, or one who will price match? There's not a big price difference between the two anymore. Honestly, I think it's worth paying a bit more to avoid the potential hassle of having to ship back a defective set, and additionally get it sooner.

Not sure, but the Best Buy site says 55" is delivery only where I'm at.

My current TV is 39", so this is still a pretty large upgrade for me either way.

You should peave it auto. The PS4 pro uses both RGB & YUV depending on HDR or not.
