KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Did you get a replacement or the screen repaired?

Tye lady told me to buy a new one. The replacement bill is 1600 plus tax that she asked me to get and i bought a new tv for 2100 on black friday so, it was essentially a write off.

I dont see the amazon aoo anywhere.

Now my PS4PRO that got dropped by the mail lady in front if me on delivery disc drive is acting up a lot.

So i guess i have to figure out how to return that with amazon.

Just out of interest, did you find it for $2100 CAD in Canada? If so, be great to know where, because that evens out to being as good as the best USD sale price when you factor in shipping. I'd have my eye on that store.

And damn the PS4 thing is bad luck. Amazon returns are super easy though, long as you can also everything back in the original box.

You can do a smarthub reset, fixed my youtube app issue, nice.

Also thought it was curious that you can actually request remote support.

I've had some pretty bad luck lately but in the end it's first world problems.

The tv was 1800 plus tax at bba ND leons furniture on black Friday.

My states deal was actually 500 cheaper at a total of 1600.

Lots of deals lately on this tv.

Ah I thought you had the 65" for some reason,

So is your panel the same type as the first one?

Does anyone know if it is possible to force the display to accept a 2560 x 1440 signal from PC at 60hz? I've my PC running into my receiver (Pioneer SC-81), but the display keeps blocking me from running 2560 x 1440 fullscreen games uncapped. I can do 4k and 1080 without any problems -- just that middle resolution giving me problems.

Apparently cable length and quality matters a lot with this TV. When connected to PC (MSI GTX 980 Ti, HDMI 2.0):

  • 15m active Deltaco Redmere HDMI high speed + ethernet cable: max res 4K @ 60 Hz 4:2:0. 1440p resolution worked only at 30 Hz (even custom resolution did not work).
  • 10m active Deltaco (though sold under local store Fujitech brand) HDMI high speed + ethernet cable: 4K @ 60 Hz flickers on and off, shows options for RGB Full and 4:4:4 but neither shows picture and 4:2:0 option is not available at 4K for some reason. 1440p works at 59 Hz but 60 Hz is no go.
  • 10m passive Fujitech HDMI high speed + ethernet cable: Same results as the 15m active one.

I would be willing to give up HDR if I could get 1440p @ 60 Hz working since that would be a good res for games that don't work well at 4K on my system. In any case I'm up shit creek trying to get my PC hooked up properly and I really need to measure carefully and see if a 8m cable would be enough to get it connected. Can't really move the PC any closer. I live in Finland so don't recommend Monoprice please.

Do you think it matters if I have a 1440p @ 144 Hz display connected via Displayport at the same time? I don't think it should. I'm going to try moving my computer temporarily near the TV and using a short 3m HDMI and see if that works as expected, then I know the cable is the issue.

This might be the same situation I've found myself in -- I'm using a longer cable to connect my computer in my office to the receiver in the living room. Will let you know if I find a good solution; would love to have 1440 at 60hz for games I can't pull off a stable 60/4k in.

Replaced by house insurance + credit card purchase assurance covering the deductible

Can anyone tell me how to watch amazon prime stuff? I cant find the app.

I may be dumb but, how do I get the Amazon app on my KS8000?

FYI, I'm in Canada, not sure if that matters.

Try Google DNS 8.8.4.4 and then reset the Smart Hub. I was wondering how everyone else had Amazon and all these other apps when all I could get was Netflix and Youtube.

Good to know it's not just me. It's really weird that the cable can do 4K @ 60 Hz as well as 1080p but not 1440p.

That sucks. Do you notice any other Pro's/Con's between the AA and the FA?

No but I'm only going by eye.
I considered doing some of those test pictures but I've dealt with this tv enough between settings and still finishing insurance.

So I'm just trying to enjoy it now.

Titanfall 2 and Uncharted 4 have been my most played and they are just awesome on this setup.

I bought the rest of hitman on sale bc the pro patch is supposed to be good so im looking forward to that a lot as well.

Hoping amazon prime gets into Canada as rumoured so we can make use of its hdr stuff. Hdr really won me over.

You got amazon working in Canada?

I don't know what Google dns means tbh.

Resetting Smart Hub asks for a pin?

Going to really suck if I have to send my ps4 in for return bc I can't data transfer that way

I'm not getting the "HDR Video is Playing" message but it clearly looks like HDR is enabled due to the colors and brightness. The sun, etc is super bright, etc.

Am I an idiot?

Can someone on 1150 do a search on YouTube through their TV for "The HDR Channel" and confirm that HDR is working? It looks like HDR to me.

No hdr on 1150. If you think it looks good now, then wait until you see it in hdr.

Edit: just read your updated post.

Everybody, don't forget to log back into the Perks At Work account to redeem your WOW points!

I got $43 worth of points for the 55' TV and you can use it towards discounted games or PSN cards!

I wonder if there's a way I can make use of that in Canada. Any digital stuff I would get in an email?

The PSN card I got are physical, unfortunately. Not sure if there's anything digital but they still have a lot of discounted games, like Xcom or Deus Ex for $30. Shipping to US is free, so maybe CA would be just a small bump...

Had to reset my smart hub once because my sources weren't showing up. For those wondering, if you've never set a pin, the pin is 0000.

Anyone use voice control, I no longer get the cool little circular thing and it seems to be barely picking up anything since 1150

Thanks you for the pin info.

So, do we have a final set of settings that we're all agreed upon in here that we all use? Or is it just the case of go by the ones in the OP?

Also, I know I've aksed a few times before, But I am really looking for some advice on banding.

I beleive what I'm seeing is intentional by the game due to it being a prerendered cut scene or video, but I'd like to know what settings I need to look at to try and correct it if I need to.

Thanks!

I thought I had fixed this issue maybe someone knows what's going on it's like the tv blinks or turns off and on randomly I have swapped hdmi cables and I thought I fixed it by resetting the tv but while playing watch dogs it did it.

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a fix or if I have to take this back to Best Buy which is gonna be a mega pain in my ass

I haven't had that happen. Does it happen randomly with all content, or just with the ps4?

I believe it was mentioned in here, but regardless:

If you are mounting you will likely need special bolts. M8 1.25 45mm bolts.

The ones that usually come with mounts will be
Too short because of the necessary spacers that come with the tv that you should NOT forget to put on before you screw in the bracket.

Some people have had success with 50mm variants if their bracket is thicker. For me, 50 was too long.

I've only watched one HDR thing after I calibrated my monitor. I noticed settings for HDR was separate, will it save my settings and apply them the next time HDR content is detected?

Ive given up on knowing what true HDR is ... i know the lights on cars in infamous first light look amazing, and that when i switch the HDR mode on for the witness the lake near the beginning of the game looks alot more vibrant of a blue.

Yet playing tomb raider im pretty amazed by the color of the sun coming up over the mountain in the very beginning.

I just want one game that i could toggle hdr off and on, and though the witness does this i hear its broken, and i dont know if the colir vibrancy is HDR or not.

Im using the settings in the OP and changing the backlight from 10 to 20.

Is there a youtube video i can use the tv app with that will show me non hdr to hdr source ?

why don't you play a regular sdr file, look at the settings, then play a hdr file and look at the settings again? Wouldn't that let you know if the settings are saved for sdr and hdr content?

Hooked up my new 65" 8000, hooked up my Fire TV and consoles and Steam Link, and hooked up my existing Vizio 5.1 Soundbar through HDMI-ARC. Everything sounded great.

Then I saw there was a Software Update available for the TV, so let it update. The update has brought a nicer Settings menu but now the HDMI Receiver option (which sent sound to the soundbar) no longer works. It cuts sound out, and eventually disappears from the Speakers list. Turning HDMI-CEC off and on makes it show up on the Speakers list again, but then choosing it either selects it without making any sound, or gets stuck for a while saying 'Connecting to AnyConnect' and then drops it from the list.

Any assistance or suggestions? Thanks...

If you read any of the last few pages of this thread you would know that HDR with the youtube app is not supported unless you manually update the firmware past 1150.

A lot of people seem to be confused by HDR and what it is supposed to do/look like. The truth is, sometimes SDR will look brighter than HDR, and if you've been watching your TV the last few years on standard/vivid settings SDR can look more vibrant that HDR. Brighter and vibrant does not mean it is accurate.

The truth is, HDR is very vibrant and at the same time more accurate/realistic. It will allow you to watch the movie the way the director intended. Changing the color can actually change the "mood" of the scene that the director intended.

I recommend reading this.

www.pro-media.at/content/download/4156/24716/file/HDR.pdf

you will notice that the brighter SDR images actually don't show as much detail.

So question about dynamic contrast, I frequently hear it's supposed to be bad, but I've found that it clearly makes some movies look better and some clearly look worse.

For example, when watching Lucy, a supposedly reference quality 4K movie, I found that the picture was good but a little flat. However, with dynamic contrast on low the picture looks a lot clearer and the colors have more pop.

On the other hand, with batman vs superman 4k, the picture looks a lot cleaner and the contrast and colors are much better with dynamic contrast off.

I've just resigned myself to adjusting the settings for each individual movie. Curious though, what are others thoughts on this issue? Why do some movies look better with dynamic contrast and others don't?

I'm thinking about returning this tv and getting the ku6300. I like this tv but hdr isn't blowing me away. I can get 10inches bigger for less money.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Dang mad max isnt 4k. Neither is star trek. Thought these were ones people were raving about.

Hmm

Batman vs superman seems to be one of the very few new movies actually 4k hdr etc.

And its not super expensive and ive yet to see it. Maybe will have to settle with that.

realorfake 4k is a good site, but there are some 2k versions that look stunning. Pacific rim with hdr is one of them along with life of pi and the revenant. Native 4k is nice, but I'd take a good 2k upscale with excellent hdr over native 4k with bad hdr any day.

Outside of HDR would I notice a decrease in picture quality? That's the important thing to me.

not much, the ku6300 is a good tv. if you don't plan to watch a lot of hdr content, then the 6300 is fine. It has a native 60hz panel, so i'm not sure if that will bother you or not. Did you checkout the demo uhd site with hdr demos? Everyone that i have shown those hdr demos to has been blown away.

Ditto, Pacific Rim looks amazing. Amazing Spiderman 2 looks great as well, as does Star Trek Into Darkness.

I love pacific rim but idk if I can justify replacing my BD :( unless it comes on sale.

HDR was incredibly easily for me to see because I've never seen it on a tv before.

It baffles me that people don't see it. Just slap on uncharted 4 and look at any lightsource in the game.

Light is the place it stands out to me.

In fact I would not have made the jump yet solely on 4k.
