I can't agree with what he says about how weak the PS4 is. Sony are paying what price exactly? A huge lead and UC4 releasing soon? We get exactly the same comments every generation: 'The console is too weak just look at the games' followed by 'Wow, look how games have improved over the course of this generation.' I'm happy with this generation and can clearly see a huge leap in graphics quality.

I think he meant weak by a relative terms.
But yes, I think there's still have a lot of mileage on PS4, especially from first party. PS4K should at least hold off until every first party release one game on PS4

One thing I wonder is that when you shrink the hardware iteration window, what happens to the best console games i.e. the ones that are done on mature, established hardware? Are the next-step-up versions just the equivalent of "next gen ports" like with GTAV and Last of Us?

I don't think an upgrade to an existing console (even if it's quite significant) can be as exciting as a new console, unless the NX is shit, than PS4K will be the last to blame for the lack of hype for it.
If we get an XBOX 1.5 will it be Super Saiyan Blue?

It's hard to tell but I don't think PS4 games will run like they would have without a PS4k. Developers will try to make the most out of the PS4k's specs, pushing visuals as far as possible while aiming for solid frame-rates and then downport with the minimun amount of effort possible with a "ship it as soon as it's in a playable state" mentality, kinda like the last gen versions of crossgen games, whereas right now they are optimizing the best they can for the PS4's hardware.
It's the same for the current consoles, multiplats aren't coded to achieve a solid 30 fps on X1 and then ported to PS4 with a few extra bells and whistles allowed by the elbow room provided by a game that is optimized for weaker hardware. What you usually see is a game running at 30 fps on the PS4 and running below that on the X1.

I think he's saying it's just like Sony pushing 3D with PS3 was the right business decision, because that's what Sony as a company was doing at the time.
That anime analogy works really well, wow. I'm still uncertain about the PS4, but if anything it makes me just want to invest in a gaming PC.
Anyway, I've been enjoying the videos that he's put out so far. I didn't really follow Kyle before on GameTrailers but I'd watch a few videos every so often. Now I think I'll start watching his show regularly.

All his talk means is that they won't release an 'xbox one.5' but promote it as a new console that's super great and powerful instead of saying 'here is a slightly more powerful xbo'.
That's my take on it anyway.
Also in regards to N3DS vs PS4K, isn't the big difference here time. The original 3DS is rather old now (came out 2011) so it's basically the DSi (which wasn't mentioned) again. A slicker model with a few exclusive to incentivise upgrading (the DSi had it's whole digital library as exclusives).
The PS4k feels like it's coming out too soon in comparison.

I've just taken it for fact that this is a thing that exists and is happening soon, and will prob be unveiled at E3 or whatever. but it doesn't exist yet. in any shape or form.

3DS launch->New 3DS launch = ~3 years 7 months
PS4 launch->rumored PS4K Q1 launch= ~3 years 2-4 months

Not really. The N3DS released in fall 2014 (3,5 years after the 3DS release) and PS4K might release in late 2016 or spring 2017 which makes it about 3~3,5 years after the release of PS4.
