Kyle Bosman at Home - PlayStation 4K: Reckoning

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
3DS launch->New 3DS launch = ~3 years 7 months
PS4 launch->rumored PS4K Q1 launch= ~3 years 2-4 months

Difference isn't huge.

Wow, my bad. I probably should have done the maths before opening my mouth (or more accurately making a post). Feels like I had the 3DS for far longer.

The ending ... simply outstanding.

I agree with Bosman. While the PS4 does have some stunning games, it's troubling that there are multiple games running at sub-1080p and sub-30FPS. I can't imagine what the VR stuff will even require -- specs-wise -- 2 years from now.

I think he meant weak by a relative terms.
But yes, I think there's still have a lot of mileage on PS4, especially from first party. PS4K should at least hold off until every first party release one game on PS4

I know what he means but aren't you getting a bit sick of this constant drilling in that we should be disappointed? I just play games for enjoyment and I'm currently enjoying the hell out of my PS4.

I don't know about "shouldn't have existed", the alternative for PS4 would have been another "$599" moment, and that didn't go well last time. The console was actually lucky to get a last minute RAM boost without inflating the price.

Agreed. Though I'm not sure that is the way it'll transpire. Iterative upgrades can be very profitable. Depends on gamers I guess.

Excellent video though. Loved the ending lol.

I completely disagree with the ideal that there was a "problem" with the PS4. Kyle saying the the PS4 wasn't powerful enough when it launched. Is the same as saying the PS4 wasn't expensive enough at launch. This is madness and revisionist history. The PS4 was basically as powerful as it could be at the $400 launch price email point.

I was about to make a video on the PS4K and was going to bring up the black Game Boy cartridges (thinking very few would remember them). Kyle beat me to the punch!

But yeah, very good video with points that were spot on. None of the current gen consoles are as impressive as the Xbox 360 was during its time of release when it comes to power and I do think that MS (obviously), Sony, and some developers are disappointed about it. As long as there's full game compatibility instead of "Sega Segmentation" then things should be fine and it looks like Sony is serious about building up an ecosystem with gaming compatibility across various (Sony) devices.

I'm still not sure how I should feel about God of War 4 (if true). While the Game Boy Color wasn't truly a "next gen Game Boy", Nintendo pretty much advertised/pushed it as such -- especially since it released nine years after the original Game Boy. People weren't upset with (say) Super Mario Bros. Deluxe being a Game Boy Color-only game since the Original Game Boy had many years of support. The (original) PS4 will have many years of support too but it's different since the Original Game Boy was the only Game Boy for all of those years. Well, you had the Game Boy Pocket in 1996 too but that was simply a "slim console" change and not a "PS4K" change.

Having the first current gen entry in a popular series (God of War) be much better on the PS4K in comparison to the PS4 still doesn't sit well with me (if the rumors are true). I say this since I'm sure there are many God of War fans that recently bought the PS4 in anticipation of the inevitable God of War 4 only to (again, if true) find out that the PS4K will have the "mind blowing" version. I would feel differently if the PS4 already had a God of War game. I just think many people will be upset about that. It would be like buying an Xbox One before 2015 for (the inevitable) Gears of War 4 to then find out that the Xbox One won't be the "showcase system" for the game... the "Xbox One 4K" will.

Just wasn't expecting games to show a large difference this early between the PS4 and PS4K -- especially not games from series that still haven't had their current gen debut. Very interesting times ahead. It's funny how I thought this year would simply be about the Xbox One and PS4 getting many solid games now that the PS3 and 360 are dead. Seems like 2016 will be a "refresh year" across the board.

Too perfect.

I liked this presentation (for its lack of presentation I guess...) and subscribed because of it.

Sony isn't admitting a mistake with the PS4K. I'm fairly certain they were planning on the iterative model from the beginning as that would dictate hardware choices and capabilities long term. Also, if Sony had made the PS4 more powerful, we would have seen $499 or even $599.

His reasoning and argument for the PS4k is actually spot on. His assessment of the PS4 and Xbox One being very weak at launch is also spot on. I think in particular for Sony, the PS4 launched when 4k/4k Blu Ray were not ready and outside of the PSOne, Sony has used past systems PS2 & PS3 as Trojan Horses for their media plans (DVD/BLU RAY). I fully agree with him overall, it is going to happen and I think it will be a great thing.

For people saying they will go to PC and get the benefits of PC and not have to pay for on-line gaming, then why don't you just do that now? Trade in your PS4 while the value is $200.00 at Gamestop and your games and build a PC now.

Great video!

I feel all the points Kyle makes is spot on; the PS4 released under-powered compared to PC to have a lowered cost and now that tech is getting better, Sony feels the need to release stronger hardware.

I remember those Black GB Carts, and that is a great way to make things 'fair' to both userbases :).

With the PS4K, I'm not getting it for a very long time due to not caring about VR and the games I want to get (many JP titles, only a small selection of Sony games like Ratchet & Clank), will be great on OG PS4 :). Besides, the thing keeping me okay with all this is that the PS4K will lower the PS4 price by at least 50 bucks; 300-250 for a PS4 sounds like a killer deal honestly :D.

Overall, while I might be a bit bitter with with God of War 4 running better on PS4K, Sony isn't stupid enough to make the OG PS4 version run badly. They do NOT want to piss people off who got the system at launch and the larger userbase will get the most support.

it wasnt. many people said its middling at best. including me. they cheaped out on a shit CPU and got a middling gpu. only thing impressive was the memory.

the ps4k is what the ps4 should have been, but i honestly think Sony simply wasnt sure if the ps4 was going to suceed.

im more impressed, mostly to see what VR has to offer. and i would buy it unlike the PS4 vanilla which i am not going to buy.
