I disagree, last resort will hold its audience very well of quality remains the same, revolution will bleed very quickly

Revolution would have to lose over 75% of its audience in a week to not get a back order. That's not going to happen. It had a respectable, if lower, 2nd episode. It has also lead-in support from The Voice.

Last Resort has no lead-in support and has to self-start, not to mention it started with ratings that are marginally better than Charlie's Angels and Work It. You're asking for a miracle. Put it this way -- there was ONE scripted show on television last year that went up from episode 1 to episode 2. That was The Finder. And that was only because its first episode didn't air after American Idol, but its second did. It's not going to hold its audience. Even a modest 10% drop puts it in immediate danger of cancellation.

I think both shows are pretty average, but you're living in a deluded fantasy land if you think that Last Resort will outlive Revolution. It won't.

Revolution is infinitely better than Last Resort. The latter is so poorly produced at every level that I have to consider the idea that it was intentional.

Funny, I thought that about Revolution.

And if we're all adding our two cents, yeah, meh. Cheap production values, cardboard cutout characters, moves too quickly and makes little sense. If this was going to be the pilot storyline, it should have been 2 hours, not 1. But it doesn't matter, it's not long for this world.

I don't disagree with you there, it suffers from that pilot syndrome of wanting to get to a certain end point by the conclusion and consequently being forced to stuff a fuckload of plot into 42 minutes. It definitely should've been a two parter.

That was an unexpectedly AWESOME pilot. I was psyched when i saw Martin Campbell's name in the credits and he didn't disappoint. Some cheese to be sure, but oodles of potential and Andre Braugher was excellent. It totally felt reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica when all the action was going down in the sub. Loving all the intrigue surrounding the origin of the orders as well.

Can't wait for the second episode.

The Storyteller said:
She only had one line of dialogue, not enough for me to even tell if she was playing an aussie :(
The character description in the OP says she has an aussie mother. There's hope!

Disappointed to hear about the ratings. :/ I hope it at least gets to air the full 13. If there was any justice, this would have done great and garbage like Revolution would've bombed.

I can't believe there are people out there thinking that Last Resort looks cheaper than Revolution of all shows. Good grief.

I kind of liked the breakneck pace of the pilot. There was a lot going on, but it didn't feel rushed to me and felt just about right. It helped contribute to that feeling of everything quickly spiraling out of control. It didn't flesh out the characters too much, aside from Chaplin, but i don't think it needed to. Now that they've settled into their island base they can start having the characters bounce off each other.

It certainly doesn't look like it cost $11 million.
I don't know how exactly i would judge such a thing, but it felt like they got their money's worth. The submarine effects were pretty damn great imo, and they set up a lot of different locations, including a detailed sub set, and juggled a pretty huge cast. It succeeded at building a big sense of scope, so that must mean something.

Just finished the pilot of Last Resort. The first 5 minutes or so were clunky but it picked up a lot after that. Will definitely watch it on TV next week. The seal guy is probably my favorite character so far. Though the XO/Captain/High ranking chick are all solid leads too. The hot brunette NATO chick has an accent and now she's even hotter. This show has potential. Definitely get a BSG vibe from it. Some things seemed a bit far fetched(the captain telling his side of the story making it to the news) and a couple of others but overall good effort.

Damn, I expected a lot more from Shawn Ryan.

This was unconvincing, rushed, and surprisingly cliched. I'll keep watching for a couple episodes but given the early buzz I was very disappointed. Of course it doesn't help that the preview spoiled the entire pilot.

Could be wrong, but as I understood it they just have an initial order of 13, at which point if it's renewed the network can opt to extent it to a full season run?

Yup. The network initially orders just 13 episodes and then orders the 'back 9' if the show is a hit.

Hence the term 'the show should get it's back 9'.

Except I never, ever said that.

It doesn't matter because that's not the point I was referring to. Revolution will get, at worst, a 22-episode season. You'll be lucky to see another 5 episodes of Last Resort.

You then took that to mean Im claiming Revolution will be canned tomorrow and last resort will live a long and prosperous life. I said nothing of the sort.

What Im saying is that they will both finish their season, and then never return.

Last Resort wont get pulled after 5 episodes, it will get all 13, or at worst, 11.

Revoltuion will get the 22 and then get the terra nova treatment.

Alright. I hope it does, the pilot was great but the rating...man :(

So after the terrible ratings for the first episode ABC is trying to spin this to attract a female crowd with a commercial I saw today, stating that the show had a terrific "Love Story" to go along with all the action. Going to be interesting to see if that causes a bump next week.

Doubtful. I'm hoping what causes the bump is that a lot of people watched the stream and actually tune in for the second episode... but it's hard to escape the fact that when it comes to ratings after a premiere, down is more common than up.

ABC aired the pilot again on friday and it did pretty well.

Just saw the pilot. I'm not really sure what to make of it... I'll watch the next couple of episodes and then make up my mind.

Also: who the hell builds a radar station in a valley surrounded by big mountains?

I can't believe so many of you loved this pilot. It was absolutely terrible. The premise and the story are nice and can be interesting, but the acting, editing, directing and writing are really awful.

I couldn't belive what I was watching. And the dialogs...damn.

Yes you were absolutely terrible in this post.

Getting the Terra Nova treatment would not be getting a full season. Last Resort could absolutely get pulled after 5 episodes.

Revolution has already been ordered for 22 episodes and after its third episodes does head and shoulders above every other show on NBC. Last Resort is teetering close to dangerous territory. That's not a statement on either's quality, that's just what it is.

The only thing I don't like about this show is the angle with random thug. You have a dude that declared war on the world, and could end all things at will. Why are you testing him like that? Fall back and push your drugs.

Aside from that, I enjoy this. I hope the ratings go up. :(

seemed pretty good, liked the Russian Twist.

Saw Jay Karnes in the credits, but didn't see him. IMDB lists him as the Sec. of Defense, the guy on the phone :lol Dutch has moved on from Killing Kittens.

I guess they thought they needed a local "threat" to give the show one of many angles to focus on. I agree I think it's stupid and unlikely some local drug pusher is going to fuck with a heavily armed military force but then again nukes have been flying everywhere already on this show so screw realism.

I thought this episode was much better than the pilot. Speedman's character was mich more interesting and overall the pacing was really strong i thought. Hopefully it can hold on and stay on the air, there is definitely potential.

This got real dumb real fast, not that the pilot was all that amazing to begin with. Hopefully they can turn this around. On the Shawn-Ryan-o-meter this is definitely Chicago Code, not in the same universe as Shield or Terriers.

Given the weak response in this thread to the (second) episode that aired last night I'm assuming that those arguments that ratings would go up in the second week because everyone watched the pilot online etc, etc are now null and void?

I really liked the Chicago Code. I know some people just couldn't get into it but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.

In saying that I hated the Last Resort pilot and others liked it. Eh.

It was a decent episode but I'm struggling to see how they could drag this out over 22 episodes let alone multiple seasons? I would really like to see them explore the political consequences of what has happened as well as why they decided to nuke Pakistan? I will stick with it for a while longer....

Watched the pilot finally last night and really enjoyed it. The premise is interesting, but I do wonder how they can extend it multiple seasons (if it would make it that long).

How were the ratings last night for the second episode?

two favorite moments in this episode
when the xo realizes the soliders are russian spetsnaz, and the captain setting up his russian contact on the phone call

I'm really enjoying this show. The only downside being the XO wife sub-plot. I can't see that going anywhere interesting.

Yeah, from the first two episodes, I found this show to be pretty cliched and one dimensional. I don't really get the love for it. The over arching plot is interesting, but the characters themselves really suck.

I watched both episodes last night. I like the cast (Braugher in particular) and the concept is fun, but overall it came off as a little lightweight to me. There are some big sequences that just lack any sort of gravity or punch, and I suppose that comes down to the writing. Production is good for the most part, but some of the camera work (especially in the Ep1 & Ep2 shootouts) was a little sloppy. I'll keep watching as it's entertaining enough, but this isn't going to be high priority viewing for me every week.

Heh, I was wondering where he was since he was in the credits.

Yup, that's similar to my take.

Read between the lines..

Love it.

And are people on subs really that inexperienced? I mean they can't even shoot.

Well yeah, just some oldschool technics to turn XO against Marcus. Which we all know will never happen, army buddies for life.

Loved the Russians scene btw. That could have used some John Casey lines :D
