I'm not a military expert, but I'm not sure that a submarine crew is ever prepping to board another sub, boat, or land. They are there to keep the sub operational. So, I can see them being "not that great."
It's not good. The timeslot is terrible, with The Big Bang Theory and X-Factor taking all the viewers (and most of the younger ones, which is what ABC is after). I've read that ABC is contractually obligated to air all 13 episodes but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
I thought episode 2 was pretty good. The guy with the face paint swooping in to save the day was stupid, and the writing/acting is still spotty, but I think the show is still pretty entertaining overall. Episode 3 is supposed to be the best episode so far, so hopefully that upswing in quality will continue on to future episodes.
I'm sure the writers have ideas for where to take the show in seasons 2, 6, 19, etc. but at this point no one has to worry about that because neither of the above things are ever going to happen. We're getting 13 episodes at most.
Me too. Amazing. The show getting cancelled would be a travesty .... Some of the best popcorn tv in years. Like watching a slightly corny but great actiony Tom Clancy novel on tv. I'm loving it, best new show this fall.
Edit: I'll admit I shed a few man tears at the revelation that
the captains son had died.
. With that said I was drunk and in the moment
Also FUCK people not using spoilers. The unspoilered
Russians
comment last page ruined the surprise for me. It was still great though
I dunno I like throwbacks like this that have tense moments "on the phone" where the wrong thing said could start nukes flying
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who thinks this, but the actress who plays third in command and faces sexist remarks and that special ops guy who constantly drinks feel so miscast. The girl has potential but her facial expressions are just so blank and emotionless while the guy borderlines on overacting and chewing the scenery.

I enjoyed the pilot but am done after episode 2. The captain is good but I am not going to watch a show for one character and have to deal with him interacting with such inferior players. Seems like it is doomed anyway with the 20% drop.

Killing the solider seemed so petty and arbitrary. The gangster will definitely get his, but not before he has a chance to become more of a pain in their side.
I hope they show more state side politics and fallout from dropping a nuke and less island living.
Good episode this week. A definite improvement over episode 2. I thought it was cool that one of the men was killed as a result of the submarine crew not arriving on time to deliver the cargo to Julian. I mean, it was sad that the guy died, but it's nice to know that there are actual consequences that result from their actions.
