Leaked AC Unity gameplay videos up in the wild (edit: re-uploaded)

Dat pop in...

Also, what's up with the combat? I never expected good combat from AssCreed, but I think this time it looks even worse than in past iterations.

Dat lighting, though.

Combat actually looks fun. It looks harder than any previous AC game. That alone makes it better. With the weapon and armor customization, it will all be very interesting.

In this video, I also noticed that when you enter a different district it shows the enemy difficulty icons (same as at the top of enemy heads) with the district name. Which kind of tells that some districts will have tougher enemies than others.

In all the playable Silvert assassination demos, every enemy had just one difficulty star/dot/icon at the top of their heads. In this one, every enemy had 3.

In the span of three steps really is unacceptable. Could not be anymore distracting and immersion breaking.

WTF?! What has been seen cannot be unseen.

That 720p video...It doesn't look that bad actually! It looks like it could be the best AC game.
I'm still in for a refund if Ubi doesn't patch it to 1080p though. Yes, for realz.

Pop in of any kind during gameplay or cutscenes really is one of those things I hate, and it does ruin immersion. I was primarily a console gamer growing up, and I still remember one of the first times I played a game and noticed pop in was Halo 2....that shit just made me feel like the game was unfinished because I had never seen that before.

It's not immersion breaking, the Animus just needs a day 1 patch.

I'm not usually super sensitive to texture pop-in or shadow pop-in, but the full NPC model switches in that video were incredibly jarring and stood out like giant flashing billboard signs as he walked through the big crowd.

Holy shit that pop-in ruins any sense of immersion. Just when you start to think, "Well, the massive crowds and traversal do look pretty cool," you're sucked right out of that moment by the NPCs that appear out of thin air. And the costume changes, dear god. I hope there's a patch in the works, because at the present, this is not a game I would buy.

Maybe if they dropped all the way to 720p you wouldn't see the transition!

Doesn't look too bad. The awful combat post-hit animations and the abhorrent amount and frequency of pop-in makes me sour on it though.

Back during the 900p/CPU/AI talks I was thinking, "They should cut down on the number of NPC's on screen and have them spawn behind buildings and out of LOS. Destiny has shit coming out of holes with invisible walls."

I never imagined this level of pop-in.

Gotta love how there is literally no pop in the extended E3 demo they showed.

They were very likely showing the game on PC. Going by the PC trailer that was released a few days ago it seems as though that version looks significantly better than the console ones.

In general, it's a safe assumption that every gameplay demo or trailer you see for a multiplatform game is running on PC, unless stated otherwise.

I really wanted this to be good too. I loved Black Flag and was in awe the first time I saw those massive crowds. I honestly thought the Ubisoft detractors were being a bit dramatic with all the talk of impending downgrades, but this game is a far cry from what we were lead to believe it would be. I'd rather they had cut some more corners than produce something that constantly reminds you of its performance issues.

I almost it rather be 720p and have a smooth framerate with no popping.

Is this the studio that Jade Raymond just left? If so, was her involvement with the game at a level that her departure and the apparently horrible performance of Unity might be related?

Absolutely! I prefer higher resolutions of course, but I can forget about that once I'm actually playing. Pop-in, on the other hand, is impossible to ignore and is something I never really get used to.

No, she was the director at Ubisoft Toronto, not Ubisoft Montreal. In addition, the game director has very little to do with the performance of the game, that is mostly left up the the graphics programmers of the studio.

Graphics look amazing and the amount of characters on screen is impressive despite the totally noticeable pop-in... But honestly looks kinda boring :( Hope the full game comes with tons of mission variety.

Oh, okay. In that case, I wonder if the programmers took on more than they could handle, or were planning on these new systems having better CPUs. Of course, it could just be a case of the game needing more time and Ubi being impatient.

Jesus, there's almost an unnecessary amount of NPCs onscreen at a time. Despite how impressive it might be, if there was an option to cut back on them in favor of the performance, I would opt for that in a heartbeat.

Granted, I'll wait until the game is actually released before passing complete judgement on it.

No her role was a producer but yeah, a dev doesn't leave because of a shit framerate.

Its hard to tell the actual quality of visuals because of the compression but it looks decent, as it should. The most concerning thing is the gameplay looks exactly the same as previous games. Same climbing towers to sync, same picking up extra shit that seems meaningless, NPC's that are just THERE. Honestly, why the huge increase in NPC's? Did someone really say to themselves...

HMM, man this game is awesome, but what would really bring it to the next level is MORE NPC's on screen!

I dont know, I'm just not impressed. I still haven't finished AC4 because of the repetitive design even though its pretty and I like the ship stuff.

Combat looks the same too, same sounds when there is a chest nearby with 100 gold in it. Who cares? They really need to change up the gameplay and give us something thats fun to play IMO. Sorry for the rant.

Well, what do you know? It looks better than the screenshots posted lol like that was hard to figure it out judging by the gameplay videos floating around for months all around the internet. Going by games these days, there will probably be a day 1 patch but nothing is sure.

That pop in though is almost MGS5: GZ levels of bad except this one is way more noticable because it's people and not a few enviornmental stuff. We'll see if it will be fixed or not come release day but, I'm exciting for the game and will be picking it up with MCC that's for sure.

Great attention to detail! I noticed that too.. A lot of the clothing from the NPC's would magically change. It's somewhat funny but also it takes away from the immersion.

Yeah, I think the game looks great overall but that pop-in is very noticeable walking through the big crowd.

Looks great to me (but clipping still shame in 2014 though) :) Seems Ubisoft using the same running animation in every game nowadays :D

Gosh, that NPC shadow pop-in is really bothering me more and more as I watch it. While I notice pop-in, it's usually not a big deal to me because it's only a momentary interruption of graphical quality and immersion. But here it's just constantly going all over the screen as you walk through the crowd.

I've never played an AC game. Animation combat wise looks awkward, just doesn't look like it animates well. Yes there is pop up, not just from the crowd, I've noticed other things too. When he walks through the crowd everyone just has that canned animation where they jump back - the interaction isn't great at all. Maybe they should have considering euphoria ( as seen in R* games) for a more natural movement.

Low on aliasing thought it's hard to make out certain objects from the compression in the YT clip. Overall it does look nice. Just has some pretty noticeable pop that I wasn't expecting to see on next gen system with its additional ram over last gen. They could have used reflections when he goes indoors on the shinny floor. WD had the same issues when it rains there were no reflections form the pedestrians. Will I buy it? I don't know, like I said I've never owned one, but it can see myself having some fun with it since I'm not burnt out in the franchise. As with everything, I will wait for user opinions, reviews, etc.

I'll keep my eye on it.

Do you think this game is best played in french with english subtitles? I feel its the right thing to do, would really set the atmosphere. But I will definitely miss understanding what people are saying without looking at the subs.

What is everyone doing?

Really looks great overall. I love the scale and the era they set it in. The graphical issues don't really bug me too much.

Wait what there are people who think that combat is same as in previous titles? I don't know what AC games you played but this time there are no counter kills or chain kills and that is main difference since ACB. Also there is no health bar in that video but one hit grom guns will lower your health significantly + multiple enemies will attack you this time.

Also on that video he was fighting only 3 guards and he started running from them. There won't be fighting with 10-15 guards as in AC3 or AC4 because you don't have any chance.

LOD and pop in is really noticeable and distracting and that is really bad. Crowds are massive and they are not static as before. They run away when you start fight in front of them, you can use them as hiding place, there are fighting between factions etc. Animations are really good but there are situations that AC1 did better like walking through crowd. In AC1 Altair was pushing gently people from the crowd and that small thing make big difference.

All in all game looks nice, they improved formula enough to make it fresh and now we need to wait and see how good story is and how good missions are.

My biggest concern is the slowdown / heavy frame drops during some of the combat.

I don't think that's the final build (patch wise). We'll be getting a day one patch right?

WHAT?! Do you claim that Ubisoft is actively missleading? Maybe even deceptive advertising? No way, they were always so truethfull in the past. It's Ubisoft, we can trust them, everything will be fine. A day one patch will fix all the problems!

But now I got to go, my unicorn needs fresh secret sauce water and there is still the pot of gold I need to find at the end of the rainbow.
