Looks nothing like what made the originals great. It is insane to me how badly they lost the plot with this franchise and when they had such a winning formula with the first few games.
Never liked the series. The combat always felt completely weightless to me and the appeal of cutting through crowds of zombies like hot knife through butter gets old after a few minutes.
If this was remade on re engine with combat that feels a bit more kinetic and punchy then I'd be interested, though.
This is the problem. The appeal of the original games was time management and an almost rogue-like gameplay loop that highly rewarded exploration and experimentation. Plus being trapped in a confined space with a cast of psychopaths The zombies were mostly just obstacles, being able to mow them down dozens at a time was just a side thing that you couldn't even do in the first several games outside of a few key areas.
For whatever reason though CV thought the only reason people like the games was what you're saying, so they leaned in way too hard to making Zombie Dynasty Warriors and stripped out everything that made DR fun and unique.
4 had no time management, no psychopaths, no survivors, no replayability, no co-op, an overly huge map, covered every area wall to wall with zombies, watered down the combo system... Terrible game that completely forgot what franchise it was from in its quest for mass appeal.
The original Dead Rising setting of the Shopping Mall was genius - it contained the game world within a coherent logical environment that worked on its own (and as a homage to Romero's Dawn Of The Dead).
