Feels like they completely contrived that scenario for Bolin to toss the rock at Pe Li.

When Ai Wei was getting away, it just reminded me how it would have been great if Bolin bent the metal, but of course, what's the point, Korra can do everything.

He just couldn't learn it. He had a hard enough time learning earthbending.
It became second nature to him over the course of the journey. Seismic sense, the key to Metal Bending, was what saved him from Ozai for pete's sake.

I think my main problem with Korra, is that she is learning everything and that defeats the purpose of having a team at all.

Even though Aang could bend all the elements there were certain things others could do that he couldn't Katara with her healing, Toph with her Metal Bending, they all had a reason to be there.

Korra pretty much is making everyone obsolete which is kind of silly, it's like the other characters are only their for the rescue scene in the season before they do nothing and have their pointless side arcs that amount to nothing.

Funny enough, the only character that has something that Korra doesn't is Asami, and that's being rich.

Uh Bolin and Mako have been hella doing stuff. And I'm upset Asami has been left doing jackshit lately.

Does anybody else feel like the airbender girl is evil? The way the camera zoomed in on her during that one scene at dinner gave me a "she's evil" vibe.

Yeah and why the hell doesn't Mako ever use lightning? Can we have a discussion about this please

If he mustered all the lightning he had the Red Lotus island, he could've taken out combustion lady, Ming Hua and Ghazan for sure. I'm talking azula, ozai, and iroh grade lightning. That is if he can even do that. From him I've only seen sparks in comparison.

It's less than that, and more the fact that Korra is the best bender there at pretty much everything, literally the only reason everyone else is there is because Korra can't be in two places at once.

A good balance story is that everyone has a certain skill that no one else in the group can do or use. That is what makes a group dynamic good, X character can't do Y thing, but Z character can.

Korra can Heal/ Metal Bend/ Air bend perfectly while Bolin can't even Metal Bend, when he's supposed to be the Earth Guy, Asami is there because she's rich and Mako...meh.

When someone can do everything, you strip the need of everyone else,

...shit I forgot about that. Hey she can take one for the team.

He could've shot it after Lin picked her up?

Better yet, use it while Ming Hua had her water around Lin's leg. That way it'd zap Lin, Korra, Su, the sons, the... roof....

Actually you know what let's not wonder why Mako didn't use lightning in a city literally made of metal. I know he's useless but that'd be a new low.

When they were looking for the traitor I was so glad Mako said exactly what I was yelling at my screen for the past 5 minutes. I hate when no one has a brain in a show <_<

Mako redeemed in my eyes.

Really enjoyed the episode
I didn't think that Suyin was in on it but you guys have convinced me. I did think she was up to something but my guess was she was trying to overthrow the earth queen or something

I sort of want them to dodge expectations and carry these villains into Book 4, but we have 5 episodes left, so I guess that's enough time to make them satisfying and give them a good enough end.

Just bought the episode on Google Play store in HD.

God damn that was a great episode.

Turns out that poison dart that paralyzes the body is highly effective against the Avatar. And I thought for sure that they had the villains cornered in their metal box but then the dude lava bended and that amazing fight scene took place between two groups. It was almost like a gun fight.

And ya'll are crazy with the Suyin working with Zaheer story. Maybe she knew him in the past. But I highly doubt she's working with him still.

The fact we don't see IRON VARRICK using his magnetic powers automatically degrade this episode from "awesome" to "good".

And I don't wonder if Suyin made some pact with the
Red Lotus
to have the capacity to build her city, so she was "forced" to send the Krew away to cover her secrets.

Finally got around to it. That was a great episode. The fight at the beginning was amazing. I also liked the detective work in the second half. Suyin is definitely hiding something.

The fight scene was amazing. The four didn't just steamroll through everything, they had a hard time against all this guards and special benders and had to think. I love when villains have to struggle, because then we have to see how capable they really are.

Yeah, people keep complaining about how Mako doesn't add anything to the team, but clearly he supports the group with his detective skills.

Yeah, they need to make Bolin more capable. They've already proven him to be a capable earth bender, but he needs something else. Toph had Daredevil powers and metalbending, which Aang couldn't do, so Bolin needs something that Korra can't do.

Lavabending duel.

DO IT.

Edit: missed by one second.
Why do i have a feeling that Suyin Beifong is involved in it. Like how she sent Korra in an obvious trap

That is Book 1 level of stupid plot twists. Why would she do it? It makes sense character wise why she sent Team Avatar to stop the traitor.

Seems like everyone thinks that family is evil. I really don't know why.

----

Mako and Bolin have been pretty great since Book 2 finale with regards to fighting. I don't feel like the rock part was contrived, as Bolin has always been good at hitting people with rocks (like when he saved the President at his mover premiere). Bolin is supposed to be a really good earth bender.

I'm still not completely convinced that the villains really are evil. All they've attempted so far is kidnapping, and we still don't know why. They've already had two large battles against main characters, and many more small skirmishes, so I'm not convinced they have many more fights ahead of them.

I don't really have anything solid to support this, and I have no idea how they'd tie things up this season with only five episodes left if they aren't the main villains. Still, I can't shake the feeling that their motives are going to be sympathetic at the very least.

This season has been a vast improvement over the last two. It makes you wonder what the hell went wrong with the last two. I mean, did they suddenly become competent writers again or are new/old Aang writers doing all the work this season?

Agreed.

She probabl should have lost either her powers, or her team at the end of season 1.

Korra is extremely competent as a combatant, and a super capable person, without a lot of agency is kind of interesting. As it stands, things get pretty redundant, possibility wise when the team is together.

No I agree. My first tip off was that they were trying to kidnap Korra than just assassinate her in her bed.

Eh, they all played a role in that fight. They were all helpful. Mako came in with some logic and reason, which Korra does still seem to lack. Bolin and Asami could certainly be better utilized though, I'll give you that. Tenzin has his air nomads. Jinora has been used for spirit stuff. I see where you are coming from, but it does seem to be improving over time.

I really enjoyed the episode, though I found some of the dialogue a little clunky. Also kind of wish the villains didn't go down so easily. Seeing them as fugitives running has made them elss terrifying than when they were first introduced.

Yeah, they need to make Bolin more capable. They've already proven him to be a capable earth bender, but he needs something else. Toph had Daredevil powers and metalbending, which Aang couldn't do, so Bolin needs something that Korra can't do.

Keep in mind they are sort of in the process of this happening. See: Bolin's training, Bolin's role in the fight, etc.

I ain't buyin this either, considering Zaheer was obviously an air acolyte at one point, he tried to kidnap Korra 4 years after Aang died, I'm guessing he had gone out of Aangs good graces around then, not 30 years ago when Suyin would've been in the Circus.

Yeah I don't really buy it either. There's not enough to point to it other than mere lookalikes.

Poor Suyin and family.

She will be forever haunted by her criminal past.

She's a lot less level-headed than she lets on. It was pretty heavily evidenced by how badly she wants to capture the traitor. We'll probably see some major development with her if Lin doesn't kill her for letting Korra go. Bending-wise, Lin was equal ground with her while she was dazed from the acupuncture, so I don't think she'll be able to handle a very angry full strength Lin.

She also is too forgiving/naive. Meaning, she's dogged by her own criminal past, but because she was able to change, she thinks everyone else should get that chance too. Which is a good thing (I agree that people should be given the chance to change and rehabilitate into society and not be defined by their past). BUT, I get the feeling that she's more likely to be taken advantage of because of this.

I do not think her family is evil, but I do question why she was so adamant to get Aiwei back, even at the risk of the Avatar's life. That seemed shady.

i am half perusing the comments, and people seem to know a bunch about Zaheer's gang. Is there a legit place to watch the next episode I don't know about?

Bolin is a decent earthbender, but no he is not a master. People are forgetting that whenever he and Mako have to fight anybody who isn't a low-tier baddy they have a hard time or lose. When Mako and Bolin fought the twins they got their asses handed to them if I recall correctly. They can hold their own in a fight ok, but ultimately will lose or need to be rescued by Korra Sue.

With the gaang, everybody in their had something Aang couldn't do or they were a better bender of that element that aang would be within that limited time span. I understand that Korra has been practicing her bending since she was a small kid, but it removes the need of a gang. In fact she doesn't even use water bending that often and that's supposed to be her forte.

Mako has lightning bending, but instead of making him use that more often he seems to forget it exists, and I doubt everybody he fights will know the redirecting style that Iroh came up with so the only excuse of not using it to stand out is because it's deadly and this is Nick. Bolin should've had metal bending, but I'm hoping that with the discussions of 1 in a 100 benders and bla bla, not to mention that everybody else in the police force can metal bend, that they'll decide to give him something like lava bending.

As to the family being evil, lol doubt it. Maybe Lin's sister is in on it willingly or not, but the children are not in it. The daughter looking at Bolin wasn't anything more than a girl looking at the guy she likes.

The thing is, aside from fights, Korra gets some problems... Korra can't drive like asami, and korra can't use logic like mako...

And korra doesn't own pabu :p

Clearly *MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO WATCHED THE LEAK*
she's makos mother using super advanced plastic surgery and trying to get it on with bolin to produce a lava-combustion bender.

Twins/Unalaq had home town advantage. Cover of trees + battlefield being snow covered ground. Bolin and Mako are accomplished benders but aren't built for taking down the main guy - of course that's Korra's job. It's her show. But no, this isn't like AtLA when Aang had the best waterbender in the world, the best earthbender in the world, and a top flight firebender on his squad.

There were plenty of lightning capable firebenders in AtLA but lightning was rarely used. Probably because conjuring the lightning isn't practical in a normal fight since it takes a while.

And the family isn't evil. We just think Su is being shady.
