Legend of Zelda Wii U Gameplay Demo

Possibilities:

1. They were bullshitting and were never seriously trying to reach the location they marked with the beacon.

3. They reached the tower and never showed us. Then went past it.

2. They changed destinations but never told us.

I'm pretty confident that the place on the map is the place where they ended the demo, which means they went way past the tower they marked at the beginning. All of the landmarks line up too perfectly.

But they ended at a much more interesting place:

;D

Maybe we'll see that bridge before it was all destroyed to shit :O

I remember playing Shadow of the Colossus and just taking my sweet time to wander around that world, so I think I'm gonna love this game. I also really dig the art style.

I know this is kind of irrelevant, but I just went to the Nintendo World store in NYC and purchased a Zelda hoodie. That store is awesome.

I really want a simplistic approach to this and not nintendo's skyrim. If they can capture the simplicity , variety and challenge of a zelda 1, i think they will succeed. Ultimately, it will be the lay of the land and environments along with music that will influence whether people can or cannot buy into the overworld

Nah bro, simplicity is bad. There has to be an interesting thing every square foot for the world to be enjoyable.

If people expect this to be nintendo skyrim than they are going to be sad. THis game is going to be a zelda with it overworld probably to being like WW but instead of the sea it is land and NIntendo skyrim is Xenoblade X

I guess but even from the location a bit north west from the green arrow, you do have a body of water and a bunch of dark area so its low elevation, like the cliff we are seeing. I would argue that it makes more sense since at the beginning, death mountian is directly infront of them and the cliff and bridge is all to the left, matching a bit ahead of the green arrow. It also would make sense to have a bridge across the river since going around would take forever with this scope. It also looks like the horses auto patrol was going to go there but then anouma turned it around to not show us how the bridge looks like, explaining why it ran back down the field. Also, given how long it took them to traverse the other parts of the map, having such a large cliff and bridge and everything look so small on the map makes sense.

At the same time, i don't think there is any denying the fact that lake hylia seems to have a bridge running through it but I think that bridge might be different from what we are seeing here.

EDIT: Looks a little hard to tell since the red arrow is covering the river but i still think its entirely possible they just had to cross the river to get to the beacon. Maybe gamexplain would find better markers from when we first see the tower and whats around in the scene you showed. Id be down to do an analysis but exams -__-

Anyone remember the TP hype days? Aonuma said that animals would be important to TP. There were parts where you saw dogs and cats hanging around Link and Epona in the woods.

I think that idea became useless, but here I can see it being important again. This title reeks of...animism.

The only part of that that was really true was in begining of the game when you were wolf link talking to animals and stuff. In this game if it were true i imagine it being the animals are good for resources and stuff hunting animals and getting food and stuff. Would be great to see "shiny" (Rare) animals that you could hunt only available in certain parts of the game time/weather/area that give you some rare stuff

Bugs were important.

heh

RagnarokX is getting ready to correct them ;)

Wouldn't be surprised if they call him out by name. They often credit gaffers in their videos.

Yup, the early trailers made it pretty clear the theme of the game was animals. You can kinda see that in the final product, but it's not as potent a theme as we were led to believe. It still has more animal species than most other zelda games combined, but I never felt like animals were the THEME. Just... there. I know the spirits were animals, but I felt like they could have been replaced by humanoids and it wouldn't have changed anything.

You guys think we'll get another trailer at the next Direct? I thought we wouldn't get ANYTHING from this until next E3, so I was a bit surprised when I saw this. Fuck, I'm hyped.

I wonder if they'll leave Star Fox for E3 then. I expect the next Direct (in 2015) to be n3DS heavy while also showing early 2015 games for Wii U like Woolly World, Splatoon, Mario Maker, etc.

I would like to have more optional challenges, like optional areas or superbosses..

I mean.. Even the Thunder Dragon challenge is not hard when you learn how to abuse the shield..

The problem for me is that watching the video didn't make me want to go off and explore it. There's little in the way of interesting landmarks and everything just feels meaningless and filler. That first teaser they showed looks great, and I was itching to pick up the controller and go explore, but if that location is a special case and not representative of the whole overworld, then I'll be disappointed.

Shadow of the Colossus felt purposefully barren. 'These are the forbidden lands, and life doesn't really survive here'.

When I see Zelda Wii U's 'barren-ness' it doesn't seem quite so deliberate or purposeful. And I certainly didn't get the impression from this:

cdWYOwj.gif

that they were going for a barren world.

The newest footage is missing a sense of vitality. Maybe if the apples were growing on the trees, and Link went up and plucked one, it would have aided in giving the world a sense of living. It just seems so static.

Well its not like we could really see the game. The horses were moving too fast and they kept screen cutting in the trailer so we never got a really good look at anything

At the beginning they never look at Death Mountain. The mountain you can see is directly a head of them in line with the beacon they place:
nyR8bHY.jpg

So not very far to the right of this line. Most likely the mountain I circled here.

Also, the body of water northwest of the arrow and beacon doesn't appear to have a bridge. It has a road leading up to it, and that road has a bridge crossing a body of water south of it. The multitude of islands in this water tells me this is probably a swamp:
R7pCaZt.jpg

They're also very far away from Death Mountain at the end of the demo. Being northwest of the marker would put them right at the mountain's foot.

jbby52gKwXKRUQ.jpg

This is pretty much the only place on the map where this view is possible. They can see the bridge to their left while riding towards death mountain along the red line with the camera angled to the left. When they reach the edge of the lake, a huge cliff, they veer right and run along the edge along the blue line. Straight ahead they see the tower.

What Zelda fan doesn't remember? That was the hypiest hype ever hyped. ^_^ And I wish they would have developed the animal aspects. As it is, it contributes nothing to the game. Man, what a missed opportunity.

My god. You are like Sherlock!

It seems very pretty to me but I still worry that open world will be very ill suited. Nintendo still struggles so much with adding incentive to exploration and completion for a lot of their games, especially Mario and Zelda so throwing an enormous world on top of that... I just hope they have some good ideas that don't consist of raw terrain chewing for rupees and heart containers.

I'm growing kind of weary of open worlds in general with the Ubi Soft ick saturating things. Honestly, Draenor in the new WoW ex-pack is probably the first open world in awhile that I've really been fond of as you're tripping over easter eggs, toys, jokes, goodies, rare bosses, etc everywhere and none of the landmass seems there for the sake of it.

I still like the idea of gearing and upgrades in Zelda, so if they can combine some good Majora's Mask kind of stuff with that concept still, it'd be very interesting but I really hope there's less stuff like in ALBW where you do a fairly obnoxious puzzle, get to the end...open a chest and BAM 100 rupees. A bit of weakness in a game so strong otherwise.

some ppl are really going to feel stupid when they see real up close footage and notice it looks gorgeous like the e3 demo shon lol

I'm sure it still looks good, but there's no denying that a lot of the details we can see in the original screenshot and footage are much more scarce. Things like flowers among the grass and ambient particles and insects.

Now, I don't think that is any indication of some sort of downgrade, but it's true that these aren't as plentiful in this demo. We can only see flowers in two or three sections compared to the field full of them in the original shot.

Edited - I was saying that the original shot has a ton of details, while there are much less in other areas we see in this new demo. It was really just an observation, rather than me trying to imply something about the development.

Most of that stuff we just cant see man.. in the video miyamoto specifically pointed out stuff clearly in the game that was there or stuff we couldnt see. Apples growing on the trees, insects..

You should read this thread more often. You already have been proven wrong.

Posts like this...really you need to go through the thread or watch the video while listening to what they say because all of that stuff is still present

I'm not trying to say anything negitive by this, I was trying to say that we shouldn't assume this is a more complete build. Damn, people are jumpy.

I've watched the video several times and I heard them say it, but I don't see any flowers, if someone could point it out then that's fine. Either way I'm still saying the same thing.

Has this been pointed out already? I was rewatching the video and saw a brown deer/antler or something with horns standing on top of that rock right of the screen.

zeldau_beast_01kfefd.gif
Yeah! This game really has a mononoke vibe going on. Another user said there is another deer by the woods more ahead.

In this post. We're seeing an offscreen video, at a distance, and of him rushing through most of the areas on Epona, and the majority of them having tall grass which would probably hide most flowers. I'm not accusing you of anything, it's just that this thread has been going in circles. I almost feel like these need to be in the OP or something

as has already been shown in the thread

Really? I think that aspect is here to stay.

Though probably not literally any order. Even Zelda 1 had some ordering because you had to get the flute and the raft in a previous dungeon to access two dungeons.

And while it's not required, I don't think anyone would be able to find the 8th dungeon without the red candle. So 4 of the 9 dungeons were actually inaccessible until you met the requirements in previous dungeons.

The 8th dungeon was easy. I found it before I found level 2.

The hard to find dungeons are the 9th, 7th, 5th in quest 1.
In quest 2 level 8 was particularly hard to find, as was level 9. 7 was the hardest to find. 6 was tough.

Fuck Quest 2.

Yeah, until we see more footage I'd expect for discussion to be pretty limited. Hell, I'd love even just direct feed from this demo.

I can't wait for the game explain video. Edit Edit: Still waiting.

They actually spent a lot of time in the Lake Hylia area:

jYKQeQVjBJsKE.jpg

When Miyamoto points out the apple trees they are actually riding on the same path they are riding on in the final clip when heading towards the bridge but in the opposite direction. In the last clip they ride towards the bridge, turn around, and then come up on the same area where Miyamoto pointed out the apple trees heading toward the statues where they fought the bokoblins.

Given the special effects on Link's arrows, the fact that he enters a bullet time like slowdown effect when he leaps off the horse into the vaulting arrow shot, and the fact that Timeshift stones exist in the Zelda universe I'm thinking one simple concept that will have big implications into the next game.

I think Link is using Timeshift Stones to make certain weapons like his arrows and that when he uses his tools in certain ways he will be able to "slow time" or perform other time related abilities. Before he could traverse time, but I could easily see them working in time slow abilities that are item or attack specific for the new Zelda. For that matter they could play with speeding up time, rewinding, or the paradox abilities across certain items. If he had all these abilities at once it'd throw off Zelda a lot, but if each item held just one such mechanic as an option for it (perhaps at the cost of magic?) it could go quite a long way for puzzles.

^^ YES I really hope that timeshift stones to return in some capacity. As a gameplay mechanic and maybe even play a part in the story. Definitely one of skyward sword's
(many
) highpoints.

I really love that Hyrule finally has an ocean! I always thought that was the only thing missing.

Bring back Snowhead and we can finally have all the cool dungeon elements in one Zelda game.

This is the kind of thing that could be an excellent mechanic if executed well.
