Wave 2 still to go?
dZpF0Oa.gif

Why, hello there!

What were your thoughts on the individual sets from wave 1?
Overall, for me, I would put wave 2 above wave 1.

I've only built the 4 smaller sets so far.
I like the small Space Swarmer.
The Swarm Interceptor was alright, but nothing great.
The Warp Stinger was a disappointment cause all the joints couldn't pivot.
I liked the Star Slicer set unlike most here. The vehicle is really well done. I liked the shape of the mantis.

Overall for GS, I usually build them, display it for a week or so and then break them up for storage.

Fred Shamisen, a French LEGO designer, is responsible for the Hive Crawler, Crater Creeper, Vermin Vaporizer, Warp Singer and Star Slicer.

Paul Lee, the artist for the LEGO Club Magazine, is also responsible for the design of these sets, and the line as a whole.

The Bug Obliterator and CLS-89 Eradicator Mech scream Mark Stafford to me, but I need to confirm that.

EDIT: Nope - Mark has been focussing on the Legend of Chima.

I like thinking he was building towards the Hive Crawler.

Damn, I really wish they would put out a mega sized, $200 GS now.

So, who made the Obliterator and Titan then?

Fixed.

Ashley Macadam designed the human characters and their robot sidekicks.

The humans were okay. I love the robot sidekicks. Especially their firepower.
Of the robots though, I like the slick head on the red robot the most. The orange one looks like a Transformer shrunk down to mini fig sized.

EDIT: Again, I am very curious as to where you find this stuff out. Some strange LEGO spy network or something? You know I am intensely curious to know about designers and what sets they do.
And what did Mark Stafford do?

DOUBLE EDIT:
I guess some designers have lists of their sets on Brickset.

Regarding my information gathering - nothing too exciting I'm afraid - I've just built up a network of places to look and people to ask.

We really do need a site devoted to crediting the designers on these sets though.

Mark Stafford is a Senior LEGO Design Specialist - he started on EXO-Force, was the primary designer on Power Miners, primary designer on Space Police 3, did a bit of Atlantis (including the cool City of Atlantis), primary designer on Alien Conquest, was a big part of Ninjago (especially anything involving mechs), and designed the Lion CHI Temple, Gorzan's Gorilla Striker, Cragger's Command Ship, Eris' Eagle Interceptor and Equilus' Ultra Striker for the CHIMA theme.

Yes, that is an excellent place to learn about Mark's sets - also his space MOCs are insane - go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/nabii/ to see more. He also has some short designer videos out for Alien Conquest and Chima.

He is a pretty amazing builder:

A local Target has Bug Obliterator for 30% off too: $$ 55.98. With Dat Target Card and Tax it comes out to 58 bucks! Getting it!

I had one interruption, and one cat trying to help incident but even setting aside the day I only completed the first book on Haunted House. Interesting build so far, not a fan of the first set of bags being nothing but all the accessories. Now I have them all over the place waiting for the house to get done. It's looks like i'm not going to be able to finish it till Sunday now. That's cool though, i'd rather space the builds out and make the experience last longer. And I have Orthanc looming in the background.

This was a first. Was home sick today so I opened up 2-Face Chase. The base for the bank was bent in half, lol. I contacted LEGO and they are sending me a new one, but it was odd to see it totally bent up when everything else (even the stickers) were fine.

Wow! Mark develops some bad ass shit! 0_o

I'm fairly proud of this sticker placement accuracy... :)

Whatta you guys think?

Edit: PhoncipleBone! I think cancel the Phon-Signal; I solved the problem I think...

I'm pushing in the two little Wing
Gear Cranks into the back of the shuttle, and I'm wondering if on your build you were able to get the 2x2 round bricks to be completely flush with the back wall of the shuttle. On mine I can push the cranks in almost all the way except for maybe between an 1/8 of an inch to maybe 3/16ths of an inch. I'm concerned that I may have somehow not aligned some of the technic pieces during the gear portion of the early part of the build.

Here's a pic:
J1z1bijl.jpg

Do you think you could show me a pic of how the back of your Imperial Shuttle looks? And if yours is flush, what do you think I may have missed... I'll research the instructions in the meantime... Thanks for any help guys. :)

Edit2: The cranks work fine, and in immediately looking at the gear building page I'm seeing that the technic plus shaped "stick" goes into a yellow technic connector; and those pieces only allow a technic piece to insert halfway into one side of the connector. Which I think means that there is only a short portion of the technic stick that will insert into the yellow connector, if that makes sense.

Back to analyzing this dilemma...

Edit3: I think that this is non issue after seeing pics of the rear of the ship after the build is finished... * crosses fingers and continues building*

Damn it none of my MF sets have glowing stickers. It takes away alot from the final product. Especially the hearse and castle.

I love how I keep forgetting about the ghost train set still unbuilt. I look over my shoulder and see the werewolf set and think how I look forward to it and then see the train box standing below it!

R-User!: It looks like a great build and I like the pictures.

Thanks ralleren! It has been fun... I'm
going to let my son build the last wing! He's going to dreadlove it!

Apologies if this has been posted already, deadline July 31 if anyone is interested.
Have you ever dreamed of exploring space, or building your own aircraft of the future? We'd like to invite you to do more than dream.

Join Astronaut Leland Melvin, NASA experts, and representatives from LEGO to discuss the NASA/LEGO competition and to find out how you can enter a futuristic design of your own.

"NASA's Missions: Imagine and Build" competition is currently open with an entry deadline of July 31. Winners in each category will be selected by a panel of NASA and LEGO officials and announced the week of Sept. 1. Complete rules and guidelines can be found at http://rebrick.lego.com.

NASA Partners With the LEGO Group for Design and Build Contest

WASHINGTON -- NASA and the LEGO Group are partnering to inspire the next generation of aerospace engineers by offering a new design competition. The competition will spur students of all ages to use the toy bricks in building models of future airplanes and spacecraft.

The "NASA's Missions: Imagine and Build" competition opens Wednesday with an entry deadline of July 31. Winners in each category will be selected by a panel of NASA and LEGO officials and announced Sept. 1.

The first category in the contest is "Inventing our Future of Flight." In this challenge, participants will design and build their idea for an aircraft of the future based on real concepts and new technology NASA's aeronautics innovators are working on to increase fuel efficiency and reduce harmful emissions and noise.

In addition to building a model from LEGO bricks or using the LEGO Digital Designer computer program, participants in this category also must prepare and write a technical paper. The paper will explain how the contest design takes advantage of NASA's ideas and potentially improves on them.

This category divides entrants into two groups: young student builders ages 13 to 18 and an open group for anyone age 13 and older. The two winners will receive a custom-made LEGO trophy and a collection of NASA memorabilia.

The second contest category is "Imagine our Future Beyond Earth." In this challenge, participants will use their imaginations to design and build a futuristic vehicle from LEGO bricks that might travel through the air or in space. It could be an airplane, rotorcraft, rocket, spacecraft, satellite, rover or something else. The design can be based in reality or purely a flight of fancy. This competition is open to entrants 16 or older. The grand prize is a LEGO set signed by the set's designer and a collection of NASA memorabilia. There also is a runner up prize.

What do you think of the Batmobile? I like the weight of it. Feels legit.

I like it. I also really dig 2-Faces tow truck, mostly because it's built from normal pieces (minus the arches over the tires). Very different from most LEGO City vehicles.

I don't care for that truck much. I f'ed up the stickers. I had it up for a little bit and then deconstructed it.

Yea i was super careful on the stickers. Unlike a lot of sets where you can be off a little, these needed to be really neat or it'd look off. I think both of the vehicles in this set are really great. I'm overall really impressed with the entire Batman series (still have to build Arkham, Tumbler Chase, and Funhouse Escape).

I think you'll really like Arkham. I was down on the set originally because of the width but once you put it up against a wall it looks wonderful. It's a Bessa set, I should have never doubted it. Lots of cool details and unique pieces used for the architecture. The gate and vehicle are also quite snazzy, and you can't go wrong with all of the great figs.

Your post made me like it a bit more. Can't say I have much since I assembled it.

I put the driver seat to one of the sides instead so Two-Face doesn't cover the driver's sight too much!
They're towing Wolverine's bike! Two-Face is just cocky as hell.

Looks like an assault or other unsavory activity happening under the shuttle.

They are both adults and are responsible by both using protection. I see nothing wrong. Their child shall be called Iron Trooper.

A bridge in Germany

wcN0IR5.jpg

Kinda looks like LEGO clone bricks. I wouldn't drive on it. It may fall apart. If it was LEGO, it may give the illusion the real bridge is stronger than it is.

A little guessing game; what is this?

Kind of looks like someone made a (small) flat screen TV out of LEGO and it's now laying face down. That part in the middle would be where it attaches to a wall mount. At least that is what I'm seeing when looking at this. Pretty sure I'm not right.

So this art gallery in the town I work in has this happening:

LEGO: The Art of Playing Well

Went over at lunch to take a quick peek (I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight). Everything is controlled by Mindstorms NXT, got to see a marble maze in action (this was on 3 of the Mindstorms programmable bricks and was pretty cool). Looked like there were some paper airplane throwers as well, but they weren't running.

Definitely going to the lecture tomorrow night, though not sure if I will attend the workshop afterwards (mostly due to looking like an old weirdo haha).

Woke up from a dream where I'd been snaked on buying the only Fire Brigade, Town Hall AND Palace Cinema in the store that is having the 25% off sale today.

I think it's time to acknowledge that I might have a problem. But I'll do that after I've been to the store this morning.

Lacks the four pillars that surround it.

Snap. You are right. Other idea I had was the Tyrell HQ from Blade Runner, but it does not have the sliding panels.

Good try all, quite difficult I think but you'll kick yourselves when you see.

The part at the back is so I can hinge some technic bricks/beams to make a support structure half the height of the ship itself. I've got a rough version so hopefully I can snap a pic soon.

Is the B-wing going to be stable on that thing?

So you're making a custom stand? One that is more stable, looks better, or both?
