LEGO GAF |OT2|: Building Dreams. Demolishing Wallets

I mentioned this earlier but it's been bugging me. Have I done something wrong or do the Grand Emporium's 3rd floor & roof slide around a little bit? The only other modular I've built is Fire Brigade and those floors are all firmly attached.

Was hoping to get the SSD from Amazon, as I have a few gift cards. Opinions on whether they'll get more, or is the set on its way out? They're still in stock on LEGO and Toys R Us but I was hoping to save some cash.

I wonder about this oftentimes as well... The one thing i guess is sure is that when it's only resellers selling a set on Amazon, then Amazon itself is out of stock, and when it doesn't say anything special i guess they won't get em back?

Oh ya, forgot to mention Grand Emporium is in the new catalog. So it's not going away yet?

If you dont want that coupon, (or if anyone here wants to help a brother out), I will take it off your hands. I need to make a special day trip to get to a LEGO store, and plan to do it rather soon. A coupon would be divine.

Heh, sorry, I want it, it just made me need to purchase something on my list sooner than expected. =)

Yeah, I can never tell. It seems to be hit or miss. I've seen stuff disappear and then come back in stock but wasn't sure about LEGO sets. Guess I'll just have to save my pennies for a little bit longer.

For all of those missing a LEGO Chima music video in their lives, your prayers have been answered:

I hope this means we get more gorilla minifigs:

No issues at all here. All floors are firmly in place in my GE and other modulars.

Mine sort-of does the same thing. It doesn't slide off, but there's just a slight bit of wiggle room.

That's what mine does. It doesn't slide right off because there are two 1x2 tiles on each level that will stop it, but you definitely have 1-2mm of wiggle room.

I wish I had a better way to display the modulars. There's some really cool detail inside but unless I backlight the things it's all in the exterior.

I just completed the UCS Jedi Starfighter (10215) this afternoon. I gotta say, this is one of my favorite starships I've built. The thing is sexy from every angle, the build was unique and well paced, and the bricks themselves are very classy - some great greens and reds to use for MOCs. Will make a great display piece. Highly recommended.

This is great! Shame it's the triangular light on the chest rather than the circular one - surely this is outdated now? Will grab it when I find it here in the UK though, for sure.

Well i pretty much never see these in stores here but i will look out for it online... how much are these generally speaking? I do not have an IronMan minifig yet but would want one, i was eying the upcoming IM3 sets for that though as well...

Dammit! I'm eyeing the Medieval Market Village but it will definitely cost me $100 plus international shipping (and it's rather big). However, I think it will make for the perfect backdrop for my characters, which by themselves will cost quite a bit to put together. I can use the tree to improve Bag End.

Then there's the Bag End set, which I intended to use with Frodo and Gandalf instead. But now I feel tempted to buy all of the dwarves separately. Problem is, they'll cost at least $60 to finish, loose without weapons. In either case, this will be a separate display.

And then we have the Black Seas Barracuda, which I'm planning to make into a diorama with the imperial ship. It should be possible to build some tilted display stands/sea foam to make it more dynamic. At least it shouldn't cost me much.

Not to mention that it would be nice with a display of my Space stuff. But I think I'll pass on that for the forseeable future.

It's a good thing I resisted buying the Pet Shop. Both for the sake of my wallet and my display space.

Hmmm... speaking of dioramas... I think it would be nice to build this stuff on generic baseplates with a black bevel outline and the entire thing raised one brick, both for portability and a more professional look. So it's not just random Lego sets on a shelf...

Went for the Helms Deep set in the end, picked it up earlier!

Very tempted to get a second set in the future in order to build the full walls!

Keep an eye out for argos 3 for 2 deals. That's where I got a second helms deep (first one was heavily discounted on amazon UK too)

What are some of the ways you guys organize your instruction manuals?

I'm looking for ease of access and preservability (not a word I don't think).

LEGOGAF!

What say you!!!

Preservability is indeed a word although the spellchecker marks it as incorrect.

As for manuals, for now i just keep them inside the boxes they came in (i haven't gotten into folding those yet so...)

Yes, it would be good to do this!

Free pick a brick box lets you maximize the procurement of baseplates due to the square box and the rectangular and square nature of the basic base plates!

I extended Bag Ends interior this way as well as supremely secured the base of it with: Baseplates!; green and white; though you can't see them, and that's the point!

Edit: And base plates make for great minifig display/set pieces when combined with spare tiles, bricks, or parts in general. Helps to keep them from falling over mainly but helps to set a scene better than ten standing on yor desk or display areas base color

No, no. I put them in sleeves. Sorry for the confusion!

Edit: I toss the boxes

I know, like poly sleeves for comic books?

Edit: for now I store them in the boxes they came in and I use a sandwich bag for the spare parts and store that too in the box.

I intend to nest the boxes by theme and write in marker the name of the spare parts and store those in a clear plastic shoebox sized bin with a lid; perhaps by theme or a few themes too; then put masking tape on the side and write what the themes are.

They sell them at home depot for $1.19 periodically so you can stock up there.

You guys have a pic anywhere of what you mean?

They finally got the Chima stuff in at the local retailers, and I gotta say this is the first line that I've been completely uninterested in. Even Ninjago had some stuff I thought was cool, but this isn't doing anything for me.

Halp, is there a list somewhere as to which modular set i should buy first before they go oop? I want to get all of them that are currently for sale. My plan is

1.Fire Brigade
2.Grand Emporium
3.Pet Shop
4.Town Hall
5. Remortgage the house and buy out of production sets (Green Grocer etc.)

Am I good with this plan?

That list is the order of oldest to newest of the in print ones. It's about as safe a bet as there is. We can't really pretend to have any clue what lego plans long term.

Thanks going to jump on fire brigade right now on sale on amazon.

Check the bottom of the www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox page in the "Your Quick Picks" section.

Amazon usually offers a further small discount depending on your wishlist, items you have had in your cart previously or items whose pages you visit frequently. I have had many Lego sets show up there intermittently. FB was at $113 yesterday for me.
