We could insert any app or content and say the same thing. It isn't the platforms fault.

Most TV programming, Youtube content, Meta apps, and porn all contribute to what you are saying.
Have you read a little bit on TikTok and the differences of what is being shown in China and in the West?

Why does that matter? Don't look at the crap. This is way more concerning. They all do this.

Where are you getting this news? And setting the precident for an app being banned is not a good look.

I don't use social media apart from LinkedIn (which became a lot like Facebook and Twitter because fucking idiots want to "drive engagement"). I don't think I'm particularly smart, I just grew up before social media, by the time they took off my habits were already formed and they didn't include posting my life online for others to see.

"Don't look at the crap" is a lazy response. I guess same with obesity epidemic and fentanyl tragedy in the US - just don't eat all this stuff! Don't do drugs, it's bad for you! C'mon, we can do better.

This is equally the fault of school system not teaching people critical thinking and to always be sceptical.
Unless something has changed, most American schools (before university/college) don’t teach finance. A person will be taught all of the basics except for the most important ones, which can still be skipped over in university/college depending on your choices.

Wtf...!?

If an app/any media outlet does not conform with regulations it should definitelly and positively be banned and apropriate legal action should follow.

Or do you want pedophilia normalized?(it already is, courtesy of TikTok) Or criminals like Tate being role models for your kids?(they already are, courtesy of TikTok) Or maybe some taliban beheadings this evening, for the family entertainment? (guess what, TikTok got you covered)

Lines must be drawn, a "police" should exist, for better or worse. People are stupid and vile as it is, we don't need them even more stupid.

No less lazy than saying "ban the app". Which is a much more dangerous precident. Who is banning it? We are skirting a no go topic here. As for obesity and fentanyl those are completely different. Fentanyl is already "banned" yet issues still exists. How good and effective are "bans"?

Nutrition ihas a lot of factors that manipulate food and eating habits of the US.

As someone who struggles with an addiction with screen related content I can say it is a lazy response. It takes a lot to give up bad habits and compulsive behaviors.

My only point is TikTok is no worse than any Meta app, Google app and others. They just have a better algorithim.

You are bringin up things I didn't even comment on. And brining up CP or pedophiles is just a way at strawmanning my argument. I never addressed these points and don't want to. Go back and read my initial post. I said "criminals should be prosecuted".

You can't make it a crime to "publish a how to" of a crime. If thats the case any fiction movie, book or show with a crime is then not allowed. That is insane.

You understand you struggle in part because all app companies employ behavioral psychologists on how to develop apps that are the most addictive? You realize a lootbox light and sounds in the game are tested to provide maximum engagement and dopamine hit to spend money on them?

Maybe TikTok is not worse, however it is a tool in hand of a xenophobic authoritarian regime bent on destroying the West. Or are you going to put equality between the US government and CPC?

I don't deflect responsibility onto anyone but myself. No matter how addictive something is. It is no ones fault but the addict. No recovery proghram blames other people or things. That isn't how to get over addictions.

I'm not touching the second point. You can message me and I'll give you my opinions. Again that is justout of left field to the actual topic.

Yes, you can if people understood how modern banking works. Everything is recorded and can be reversed, it's just numbers on a spreadsheet. You don't have "aha, you made a mistake, I got to keep the extra money". The moment there is a problem the bank fixes it and then reverses all invalid transactions. There is no way this would ever work.
Well, obviously. That's why I said this in the post you quoted:

The bank found out pretty quick and obviously knew who'd taken money out and got double and recouped.

What nonsense. TikTok is Chinese so there is a dubious undercurrent here especially since they are more restricted in their own country (why is that?). They know exactly what they are doing and it is not because others are doing it too (which they might but with different, somewhat less nefarious goals I should add), that should not be an excuse for having TikTok run rampant among our youth. It is a government tool from a country that I consider not-friendly.

I'm just consistent. I'd argue that there are a lot of nefarious corporations and agencies from a lot of different countries. If you ban tiktok instead of parenting your children there are plenty of other ways for even the CCP to influence them. Adn they aren't the ones who brough the poisounous content to the youth first.
