For those of you who have tried PSVR, I have a question.
My only VR experience is Google cardboard. It's a fun distraction but I know it's nothing like real VR. My biggest issue with it is that I can't get anything in focus. It's like I am unfocusing my eyes and I have double vision whenever I use it. With some adjustments I can make it slightly better but there is always an element of blurry double vision. Reading text is really difficult for instance.
Now reading some PSVR impressions I've heard several people complaining that the image is blurry. Is this blurriness on par with what I'm experiencing on cardboard? If it is, I don't know if I can handle this thing.
I've used Google Cardboard, Gear VR and PSVR. The latter for only about 15 minutes at a demo station in a local mall.
In my experience, Google Cardboard is by far the blurriest, and the least polished. It really is a toy, and shouldn't be used to decide whether or not VR is for you. It gives you a neat little taste, but that's all.
Gear VR was the real deal. The headset requires some adjustment to get a clear-ish image, but it's always slightly blurry/out of focus, and even on my best day, it feels like there's a very narrow field of view that's in focus, with the outer edges rapidly becoming increasingly blurry. It just feels like you're struggling to see clearly Farsir's "cross eyed" comment feels accurate, because it does feel like you have to strain your eyes more than you should. I hate the "smudgy eyes" feeling, so I kinda trained my eyes to... er.. discard peripheral vision as much as possible.
Using the PSVR was a revelation. The edges of the lenses are still blurry, but the field of view that's in focus is much, much larger. In comparison to my GVR, it felt like someone pulled a thin film off the lenses. General image quality, and the color depth of the screen is also greatly improved, and everything just felt a lot smoother.
A week before trying the PSVR out, I'd canceled my preorder for the headset and invested in a GTX 1070 instead. 5 minutes after trying the PSVR out, I was a believer, and preordered on the spot.
The demo I played was Battlezone. I should state that the experience wasn't entirely flawless, but the issues I came across were inconsequential enough that I don't believe they'll affect my enjoyment of games.
