Let's Talk About PlayStation VR: List of Upcoming Titles

It's not really a good representation though. There's no 3d depth to the video which is the biggest thing for VR. There's 0 ways to look at a youtube video and get how it looks.

What the 360 thing does on youtube is just give you an idea of the looking around effect, but on a 2d plane.

Well there's YouTube VR.

PSVR will be perfect for you.

House then mentioned that he has been very vocal about the fact that this generation of virtual reality lends itself more to short-form content than to very long experiences. He doesn’t see that as a negative, and he tends to liken the VR experience to something more like a theme park ride, as it may be short, but it’s very intense and enjoyable.

Look guys, we all need PSVR to do well if we want to keep getting better headsets and better games, but don't buy it assuming the majority of games will be feature length with complex mechanics like a normal game.

If people go in with that kind of expectation, then hate what the reality is, the bad mouthing isn't going to help anyone.

Gimmicky is a poor word, the idea of a "roller coaster experience" is what PSVR is namely going to do.

Expectations need to be kept in check.

I'm incredibly excited to be first generation for VR; I can't wait to see where we go in the coming years.

If that's a good representation of PSVR I'm happy with it display-wise.

In reality it will be even better.

With PSVR you will also have z-axis movement. So you won't just look up/down and left/right, you can also lean in and out of the scene.

Also, PSVR will be in 3D, so there's true depth and a sense of scale to the image.

Does the IQ look exactly like that?

I've tried only the cardboard... and some apps for cardboard look better than that on my samsung s4...

This is a video, with lots of artifacts, rendered in real time in your PS4 will look much more better.

PSVR will look like the early ps3 games.

What I really want is that Neo will be powerful enough to be able to downsample the VR games so even with thew PSVR screen specs we'll get better definition.

Expect a downgrade in some ways, but an upgrade in others. IQ feels 2009-10 PS3-ish? Just a guesstimate though. I only tried Heist so not much comparison to give.

But where it shines like some and I already mentioned, it's the depth, z-axis, immersion, etc. If you're expecting great IQ, you're going to be disappointed. That's not what VR is ever going to be.

Yeah IQ over generations will get better, but it'll probably forever be behind the curve of gaming on a monitor.

I'm being sincere. PSVR is a good choice for people who want the least change.

That's the first non-trailer direct feed Rez Infinite I've seen. Not very high quality recording and possibly the same shortened demo from December last year but still better than the off-screen recordings.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi takes over with some more skilful, rhythmic play later in the video:

Hey guys, just a heads up for people who are interested, I found I japanese youtube channel where they demo all PSVR launch games. It's all in Japanese but the gameplay is mostly new and fresh if you guys wanna check them out I got all the links and time stamps where cool stuff happens.

Hope you guys enjoy :p

Wow.. I didn't expect that to happen at the end of the summer lesson demo.. Looks like it would make you feel queasy intensively.

The old microphone-controlled mouth animation looks cute in PlayRoom VR Cat & Mouse, especially when the cat player laughs and their head bobs. Looks like its picking up other players' speech though so the mic sensitivity's set too high.

same thing happens in Playroom VR both with Monster Escape if you lose as the monster you are launched to outer space and cat and mouse where if the cat loses the mice saw a hole below the cat and the cat falls to the basement. I think it isn't as motion inducing as it looks.

I was thinking more IQ than depth perception. From some comments you'd think it was a blurry mess, but that looked more than adequate for me.

Edit: Rez is going to be INSANE in VR.

All I want now is TempestVR.

What did you watch the video on? On a 24" monitor, it looks like a 240p Youtube video. On a cellphone it looks pretty ok because it's so small.

VR is like viewing an 800x600 PC monitor, or maybe 1024x760.

20" monitor.

I come from the dawn of gaming where expanded sprites and colour clash was the order of the day - shit, only one home computer could do full screen via some trickery - so PSVR simply being up on Driller running on the C64 is good with me.

I played Drive Club VR on Thursday for about 40 minutes and it was VERY impressive. It felt like a genuine jump in gaming evolution, the feeling of 'being there' was incredibly strong.

You know what came into my mind? One of my great gaming memories of playing Virtua Racing on an ENERMOUS arcade screen, being IN the game, totally immersed by the screen, by the 3D world. Playing DC VR gave me that feeling again, only stronger. It was wonderful. I was playing with a wheel and with headphones which definitely felt like the way to play. Not sure how it would feel with a controller, I guess you'd lose a bit of the immersion, but still, fucking rad.

Honestly, it was game changing for me. And, Drive Club at 60fps is fucking outstanding. Feels like a different game.

Fantastic impressions. It really sounds awesome. Looks like I'm going to have to double dip on Drive Club.

One other thing, the PS VR headset (I was using final retail version) is very lightweight and comfy, and was really adjustable so I could easily wear glasses with it.

One extra thing I liked in DC VR was on the startline you use the d-pad to move up and down, forward and back in the virtual drivers seat. Just like you would in a real car. Nice touch.

Good mentality. I have a 3440x1440 21:9 monitor which is glorious, but I'm still happy enough with the noticeably much lower resolution in the vive.

Don't go in expecting the same resolution or detail as you get on the TV and try to treat it as a completely different platform so you can judge on specific merits and not be constantly comparing

Growing up on spectrums and C64s certainly helps though

I preordered in March ready for a bit of a different gaming experience but the closer it gets the more genuinely excited i am getting. Driveclub VR 60fps has really got me psyched.

the Monster Escape one didn't look as bad to me though.

It's a real treat to see the man himself play the demo, it also confirms that you can choose if you want to play with "aim where you look" or using the controller.

Drove out to a Best Buy this afternoon that had the PSVR demo. Wanted to make sure it didn't make me motion sick & stuff.

The choices were slim: PS worlds underwater thing, EVE Valkyrie, Hypercube, Headmaster, and Battlezone. I ended up trying out EVE Valkyrie and was blown away pretty much immediately.

The headset was lighter than I was expecting and pretty comfortable. No outside light at all is getting in. It took me a few moments to adjust stuff so that text on the screen wasn't blurry.

Graphically, EVE wasn't anything super special, but the immersion with the headset, and being about to physically turn your head to look around the cockpit was perfect. I was pretty much sold before the ship even launched out. A few times while I was playing the sound dropped out, and once I lost video for a second. I was the first person to use the setup for the day though, & suspect it was a simple wiring issue.

I was looking forward to it before when I pre-ordered day one on Amazon. Now I am fucking HYPED.

So basically what early adopters have done for decades then.

Depends on whether or not it's an entirely new tech or platform. Early adpoter can apply just as easily to people who day one new consoles (some of which have actually launched with a killer app, or had one available reasonably early).

VR experiences are the new crappy cross-gen ports.

If by cross-gen you mean two generations. PSVR isn't going to survive with just "early adpoters". There needs to be something that wows just about everyone at some point with its first generation.

bought a wheel based on how awesome I'm expecting this to be!

I'm holding to buy a t150 (my first wheel) till Sony announces any release date for the Neo.

I hope I can get a Neo with a trade-in in store of my launch PS4 and 200~250€ or so... so I'll hold into it before buying anything around that money.

So I just picked up a pair of move controllers and a charging station. All set for PSVR. Are there any PS4 games that use the move apart from Octodad and Sebastian Joust?

Speaking from a personal level, I jumped on PSVR early because I was fascinated by the technology and the potential. But the more I see of the games coming along the more excited I am about about the whole offering.

So, I came for the tech, stayed for the games I guess.

By "cross-gen games" I was referencing them as being low cost, established name titles that devs use to get a relatively risk-free entry onto a new platform during console generation transitions while gaining experience for future projects. I feel Tomb Raider, Battlefront, Final Fantasy etc are the VR equivalent to this. Hopefully gamers are impressed with these, inspiring publishers to go all in with dedicated VR titles in the future.

What I am worried is the gamers end up viewing VR as a tacked-on gimmick in this case.

I think there are enough dedicated VR games, in addition to games fully playable in VR, to stop this happening.

Hopefully people will just see them as a bonus which encourages take up.

Not that I know of. I was in the same boat as you and ended up getting some stuff for PS3 instead.
