I don't remember the last time I was so hyped for a videogame media... and I will not have it until november at the best... I will lurk a lot these threads when it will come out...

Interesting. It's getting closer. Two weeks today I'll be unboxing and plugging in, or nervously tracking the delivery online.

Having looked at some of the trophy lists I noticed that user "bradxor" already has a couple. Must be someone in the gaming press, I guess?

If you mean bradx0r, that's Brad from Giantbomb.com

Are there any direct-feed videos of Driveclub VR? I want it along with my PS VR pre-order, but I can't quite make out how the game looks from all the crappy small, off-screen, blurry footage.

Hi gents, yesterday I had the opportunity to try out a demo of Driveclub on the PSVR and thought I'd share my impressions with you all. Shout out to buggie_brain for capturing some video and putting it up on Youtube.

Any comments on my double chin are not welcome :)

So we booked a half hour session but quickly realised when we got there that this was only a 3 lap go around Old Town. I didn't have any chance to change settings or have a more comprehensive fool around with the game. They even had the "automatic braking assist" function on, which was really frustrating. Also, the sound was no where near loud enough.

THE GOOD

- The unit itself is really light and comfortable. Easy to position and adjust, you can get this thing on and off in seconds. I'd imagine that an extended play would be really comfortable.
- The head tracking works really well. There is no perceptible lag and looking around the game world feels really natural. I had a giggle to myself as i was able to poke my head out the window, check out the interior etc. The head tracking does a tremendous job of planting you in the world.
- The graphics. This is more contentious but hear me out. If we're being realistic, we all know that the ps4 is going to struggle pushing VR, and it does. But what we have here was a pretty decent approximation of the DC experience. Lighting is good and framerate is very stable and once you feel immersed in the world it all comes together, but.........

THE BAD

- .......it's realistically about 50% (maybe more) of the graphics we know and love. Everything texture wise takes a bit of a hit. Interiors don't look as good and the jaggies are more pronounced. And there is no weather as far as I know.
- We couldn't get decent off cam footage from the second screen (where you see what I see) as there were too many reflections. But what you see on that looks better than what I was seeing on the actual device. What I experienced was markedly darker and I'm not sure if that is an inherent fault of PSVR or whether they had some settings all screwed up. Also, maybe the LCD second screen (or for instance your LCD/PLASMA/OLED at home) was just better than the PSVR screens at displaying the action

AND THE UGLY

- Bring a barf bag. Seriously, if you are inclined to suffer from motion sickness, this may not be for you. The first time (and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th time!) the car slid or got airborne were unsettling for me to say the least. I've only been car sick twice in my life, but this got me good. Felt nauseated for a while and the resulting head ache lasted about 4 hours. The Sony rep assured me that you get used to it quite quickly, but I'm not entirely sure I'd be willing to put up with the nausea in the meantime.
- Screen door effect anyone? Yeah, it's pretty bad. I felt like I was 5 yo again and 1 foot away from the old CRT watching Astroboy. 1080p doesn't cut it, I think that VR is going to be a whole lot more enjoyable with 4K screens.

CONCLUSION

For me personally, I think I've gone cold on the idea of PSVR. Mainly because of the motion sickness and screen door effect. I'm not really worried about the graphics, as immersion is the key and I think this game achieves that really well. But the screen door effect was pretty jarring.
Possibly the worst thing about it was the darkness of the display. I couldn't understand why it was so dark and didn't think to mention it to the rep. Maybe they had a setting screwed up, but I haven't read too much about PSVR till this point. Surely there would be a brightness setting.

Gents, my best advice would be to try this out for yourselves, as before this I was a lock for PSVR, but now, not so much. When I finally get more info on a PS4Pro version of DC VR, I'll give it a shot again. But till then I'm back on the fence.

EDIT: Disclaimer; I haven't heard anything about this game going gold. So at this point let's assume what I played is pre release code and may well improve on release. :)

Really hoping my work plans for the 13th fall through! I'd prefer to spend that entire day lost in VR.

Really looking forward to demoing Rigs as I'm not sure if I'm convinced the execution is going to live up to the concept. Either way, I'm sure it'll be a pretty dope experience. Can't fudging wait for Rez though.

I can say I had similar problem on my try of DC VR,but not the dark display that may be just a configuration problem. It was the only game that gave me sickness, so I think it's a demo problem that I hope they will solve. (battlezone is much more dynamic but gave me no problem)

But I agree the technology should be tryed before buy, but not to be discouraged if at first try it give you some problems.. if I had tryed only DC VR I would not buy a PSVR, but trying different games made me in the position to understand that the PSVR it's really enjoyable, only some games may be not.

Mini-USB. The "new" Move controllers are identical to the originals, but now include a Mini-USB cable in the box for PS4 owners to charge them with.

Thanks. I wonder if they'd have any refined parts inside?
I'm curious because I have this 5 port USB charger, which only seems to charge my newest DS4 controller. If I plug in my PS3 moves or DS3's it doesn't work. It doesn't even work with the two DS4's I bought at launch.

Getting real excited! I've always said that with the release of PSVR, this is when VR really launches for the masses. So many games I'm really looking forward to. My wallet is gonna be crying that day.

How are you guys planning to store your PSVR? Since it's not as small as controller I am having a hard time finding a right spot for it in my place.

In the box it came in, in all likelihood.

This is a dumb question, but you can use PSVR without a TV right? Does the PS4 menu display in the headset. I don't actually know.

Are there any "applications" coming out for PSVR? Like, something where you can watch movies in a theater, or neat music visualizers (is Harmonix VR a game or a visualizer?)?

I've got this pre ordered but am starting to consider cancelling.
The only game im kind of interested in is RIGS and it will cost me close to £450 to play it (PSVR, camera and game).

Any idea when we will start seeing reviews for the launch games? I need to know whether RIGS is a must play game or just a novelty experience.

No joke, this looks super fun! It's like the Wii Sports of VR.

Not sure if this was asked yet, but does anyone know if Share play will work through VR, where a friend could watch what I'm playing?

The big problem with this vs wii sports, is that wii sports was fun in a local setting. People who didn't usually play games would see you playing and jump in. The need for a headset in VR kind of ruins that. It's just not fun in a local group setting, unless you have more than one head set (is anyone here getting 2?).

But like I said still looks fun for the online stuff. After giant bombs rec room preview for the vibe, I was looking for something like this. It's basically a VR hangout with some games thrown in.

Pretty sure they said that theater thing would be included. But the problem is the resolution. The headset is a small 1080p screen sitting a few inches from your eye, so the quality of anything your watching would be bad enough that it wouldn't be worth it.

Im just going on a limb here but I can't imagine rigs alone will be good enough to justify the price tags of be unit. Even if the game is good (7 or 8 /10) that's a lot of money to spend on one game.

There's nothing else that interests you? There's about 7-10 "games" I really want and none of those are rigs. Definitely waiting for the demo for that one.

This sounds great. Adding to the list.

Anyone know what the discount for DC VR will be if you own the original game? $32 via Amazon is awfully tasty....

Fuck it just going to get the disc.

So my launch physical lineup is EVE Valkyrie, DriveClub VR, Battlezone, RIGS, and REZ, plus my copy of VR Worlds coming via the bundle. Not bad.

Digital for sure is Bound (already owned), Volume (already owned), Futuridium (already owned), and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (buying for local MP shenanigans).

Digital wants are Super Stardust, 100 ft Robot Golf, Headmaster, Job Simulator, Superhypercube, Thumper, Windlands, and Sportsbar VR, plus whatever gems pop up. Will be a fun launch.

When I pre ordered I was really excited for the tech but as release gets closer I'm just not that excited by any of the launch games

RIGS looks like one of the only game that's fully fleshed out (which is probably reflected in its price) and I'm interested in seeing how well the tech has been implemented.

Other than RIGS the only games I'm really interested in so far are Driveclub (which I own already on PS4 and wasn't a huge fan of) and REZ (which I've played many times before).

I don't see much talk about 100ft Golf despite all the excitement over it when it was first announced.

Is it not looking as good as first thought?

Great! I'm not so much into driving games anymore, but in VR I will definitely test the demo thoroughly then probably upgrade. Got the original game including session pass for a meagre €9.99 a year ago.

is Until Dawn vr game, like a short game, or will it be a more fleshed out game like Drive Club VR?

Also, Sony needs to bring Hot shots golf, revive wipeout 2048 (sequel please), LBP 3d builder, sort of like minecraft.

There just isn't a lot to talk about. Last trailer was a month ago and 30 seconds long.

PSVR Corgis and Gendo references are fine and all but I have hardly seen the game.

Tried it today. Good experience but not putting 400€ for this.

Like I've already said if arcades weren't dead (or if they could make a come back thanks to this) it'll be perfect.

Sega Rallye with cabinet and VR headset or same for Virtua Cop or After Burner.... omg !

But not at my place with a couch and a controller and not 400€ for this quality of graphics and this simplistic gameplay.

I'm not saying PS VR is not good, it's just that it's Wii like experiences that could be made without compromise so 400€ is a bit much.

DriveClub was kind of ugly and I'm not seing myself playing more than 30 minutes - 1 hour because it was tiring (eyes, head...) and Farpoint was a corridor shooter in an open world with 3 textures and 5 different enemies.

Of course it's demos and it's just the beginning but I won't buy it day 1 for sure... and maybe wait for PS VR 2 and PS5.

Short game. It's priced at 20 right now. It's an on rails shooter with some jump scares thrown in. I'm guessing the replayabilty will come from some type of leadberboards.
