Resort to explanations that most people would find absurd.

I believe in rebirth, though not really for that reason. But it makes some of the really baffling experiences more convenient if I feel like being lazy about it.

I get completely lost in discussions of metaphysics. The whole field feels completely alien to me, so I tend to avoid thinking about it.

Metaphysics is phucked. I think a lot of the time you can have 'spiritual experiences' which are weird, and seem to point to things, but when you actually examine them critically it becomes clear it's not proof for anything, so you're back at square one.

It's like people have experiences where they feel a sense of infinite space, or an undifferentiated 'presence' of pure bliss and safety. So they say they felt God. But is God having a perception of infinite space, or vast bliss? Who knows, but it would probably be a bit more self-evident than that, so I'm inclined to think that's just a label we apply to the experience that falls in line with how we're inclined to interpret it. It's something we add to it. But it's also not to simple.

Sometimes belief is just a matter of self-honesty. We're not presenting belief as something solid that everyone else should take seriously, we're just being honest with ourselves and not dodging the question. Belief isn't knowledge. If you know you're honestly inclined to see things a particular way, then you can maybe be a little more critical or light hearted about it, or not take it so seriously, while still recognizing that's just kind of your situation as far as your internal perception is concerned.
