I've been meaning to ask for help, I feel cozy here. I know there is fitness-gaf but that is strange territory.
I started working out 3 weeks ago, been doing sets with dumbbells, some crunches, push ups and sit ups. Trying to do an all body workout. I have seem some gains but I don't know where it's going to take me. I'm a tall slim guy, have a real hard time gaining weight and lose it really easily. Which sucks for me since I want a bit more mass, just a bit. Also have a curvy waist but I think I'm stuck with that.

The best thing would be to join a gym and have a professional correct me on my mistakes and give me a set of routines, but I like doing it at home and would prefer to educate myself from random anonymous people on the net, and some random youtube vids.

The type of body I'm looking for is specific, would like to remain thin and toned. I like my body, don't want to change the shape too much just want to make it tighter. I dislike muscles. Going for something like this:

Of course but I'm here asking for a resource, a personality, a video of a full body workout. I know I wont see results for months and that body type is a long term goal. I'm mostly lost and wondering what I can do better.

Well my advice would be: if you're just working with dumbells at home then the best thing you can do is learn some exercises you can do with them to target each muscle group. I would honestly focus on just one or two muscle groups each work out so do chest one day, shoulder one day, arms another etc. Go on a website like this one I like to use and find what you can do with kit you have and make sure you understand how it works and get the form correctly. Correct technique is so important otherwise you will be wasting your time.

If you are training hard like you should be then I would strongly recommend you invest in some protein/carb shakes for your post-workout recovery shake. Directly after training is one of the best times to give your muscles nutrition to grow.

Aim to train for an hour max. You should be completely knackered after an hour if you are training properly.

If you're training properly then the rest is the fun part which is to make sure you eat a lot. Your body will not put on any muscle mass unless you consume surplus calories to what you are using as fuel. So you need to eat often and more than you normally would. And get lots of sleep.

Sweet a website! It even has references, good shit. I guess I'll add 20 minutes to my workout to reach 1 hour goal. I'll avoid shakes for now, but I do feel like a slack a bit in my routine. Don't feel exhausted or have heavy breathing, just a bit tired.

No worries, mate. The website has video, text, diagrams the works so you can't go wrong. They probably have articles on there which can cover general stuff too. The hour is not a hard and fast rule but the point is no longer than that otherwise you probably aren't training hard enough. Probably aim for about 45 mins to an hour. Also bear in mind that muscle groups are composed of more than one muscle so shoulders, for example, has a couple of areas you want to work out so try do more than one exercise per group. Maybe three sets of each exercise then move on to the next. Try to push yourself to the limit of what you can do but don't forget to do a light set initially to warm up.

Don't forget to eat though. Seriously, training your ass off in the gym all day won't do squat to bulk up if you don't eat enough to grow.

EDIT: Does anyone else get really nosy when it comes to wanting to know everything queer about people in the public eye? I recently was watching an EZA (new Game Trailers thing) video and a brief comment by one of the guys about the ways he's femme made me want to know more and had me posting on GAF to see if he'd talked about it in other videos. Like, I know that my post on GAF came across as weird and these people have a right to privacy (that I will 100% respect), but I just get so concerned with knowing who is queer in some way and how. I'm this way with celebrities, and I'm also this way with people I meet. Like, if I hear of someone or meet someone and suspect they might be gay, I want to know. It's not about potentially dating a person. I guess it just...comforts me? Makes me feel like I can trust them and talk to them? Makes me feel like I have a friend or ally? I can't really explain it, but I do it. I guess it's probably also why I've watched so many "gay storyline" compilation videos on YouTube from random shows I've never watched. Just to see more people.

The ironic part is that I think straight people who don't know I'm queer might think I'm looking to be judgmental by asking. I've had some straight people (who know I'm gay) look at me like I'm crazy when I ask, as if I'm trying to hook up with this random person or I'm an incredibly bold gossip. But I don't know. In those cases, I don't mind if fellow queer people know I'm queer. I don't know if everyone feels that way, though, so maybe I really am acting insane when I try to find out.

Hissssss! Carol was my favourite film of 2015. Great performances from Mara and Blanchett. Beautiful visuals and great music. Observant direction that focussed on how attraction and queer intimacy is communicated through gesture and body language in a 1950's context. I'm definitely getting it when it comes out on blu ray here.

Todd Haynes is the fairy gaymother of queer cinema.

Looking up his movies, I see he directed Velvet Goldmine. I waited about a decade to watch it after finding it existed from a Wikipedia page about media representation in my early queer steps. But when I was able to watch it a year ago, it was a letdown. I can hardly remember it outside of three moments. But I want to see Carol.

Bound is probably hard to beat as Best Lesbian Movie though. :)

I am not the biggest fan of Velvet Goldmine myself. I don't think I know enough about glam rock to full appreciate it. But I absolutely love Carol, Far From Heaven, [Safe], and Superstar:The Karen Carpenter Story. Especially [Safe], that is one my all time favourite films (although it is not queer film). Queer themes often appear in his works but I guess there is a broader interest in social pressures and external influences on identity.

Fuck i feel like such a idiot right now, so for comp sci there is an AP test and you have to register for it and because i was being fucking stupid i waited super long and now i dont know if i can sign up for it. I cant wait to be the only fucking person in my class not taking it.

Really really shitty way to start my week.
Now im just sad and mad but i know it is all my fault.

HSV-1 is indeed believed to be carried by a huge chunk of the world population, mostly unknowingly. It's rather difficult to have a very precise estimate though.

I'm sure there's tons of people with HPV but there's dozens of different strains without various degrees of contagiousness, severity, etc etc. I need to check it up again but I don't think HPV infections are permanent like HSV ones are.

Oh, well, thanks! It seems some people were rather positive towards me after I posted my apologetic essay, but I'll still avoid posting for a bit. Sometimes I forget that the rest of GAF doesn't necessarily have the same perspective as here or know me in the same way, even if they're all good-intentioned. I mean, it's cool that people defend their favorites from perceived attacks like that. :)

Oh, also, you asked me previously about my life change. I'd still like to refrain from posting any details for a while, but not too long ago it seems the transition was successfully made with a positive outcome. It's a little short and the Miiverse stamps are mostly kind of useless because of how abstract they are, but it's a nice "freebie" that I've really enjoyed. It might be the first Picross title I fully complete (just have 30 Mega Picross puzzles to go). I wish the Mega puzzles gave you different images.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe some HPV becomes permanent if your body doesn't resolve the virus and clear it out. For example, I believe genital warts can become a lifelong condition, but I'm not certain.

I hope you people aren't using Vaseline as lube, it makes condoms more prone to break. Use water-based lubricants always. This means basically nothing you find in the kitchen or the bathroom.

Carol was underwhelming and Blanchett's performance was almost a caricature of her character from Blue Jasmine.

The pacing was the film's biggest problem for me, as everything felt rushed and the resolution felt incomplete.


Best lesbian (and possibly love-story-arc-based movie) for me is Blue is the Warmest Color. I don't think another movie has gone through the ups and downs of a relationship quite like it. Da bes.
