Lies of P |OT| Woodborn

nevermind.

To the 3 people that care, it available on the Mac App Store, but Steam only for Windows.
Sad, would have been great to have it on my MacBook, PC and Deck.

You have to have brain damage to think it looks great.
Looks like indie ue game. Flat. Nothing more.
It looks good. Just nothing special. Static and flat.

Don't confuse graphics with art. The game got nothing even on bloodborne. 2015 game. Dark souls 2 is better and looks better lol
Game has way better graphics than bloodborne. You are the one confusing art style with graphics

I'm getting destroyed by the fourth boss just after being obliterated by the third boss. I don't know maybe i should do more dodging than parrying.

I feel like i already messed up my build and i'm wondering if i can respec, i don't even know what i want to do. I just have the weapon from the beginning (the "quality" build) and i don't especially like it but i don't know if there are fun weapons in the game.

Parrying is too hard for me on this game...

I almost quitted on the Fueco boss, then I decided to just evade it...

It worked:

Have you played this game? The lighting is so flat in most places up to parade master.
I've played the demo (playing full game after work), and if you thing Dark fucking Souls 2 looks better than this game in lighting OR graphics, you are delusional.

Some areas of LoP look flat, but Dark Souls 2 lighting is awful.

Here is one of the most generous DS2 pictures I could find.

I am obviously hyperboling here. You werent suppose to answet my post.
I dont have any Lies of Phil screenshots because I have no fucking patience to take screenshots in gamepass app but it looks flat as ds2 in some parts.
Obviously it doesn't look as bad as dark souls 2.

Now I have to react with ds2 screenshots lol

I am just starting, but I like the game so far. The first boss was easy as I beat him on the first try.

I like the atmosphere and voice acting is decent.

I wish the attack animations of the enemies were more polished and easier to read.

Some real hard choices once you unlock the 4th tier of skill upgrades but one thing is for certain, I'm going for that 4th amulet slot *first*. Most recent boss I beat on my first attempt and forged a new favourite weapon for my troubles. Samurai sword with A scaling on Tech, crazy charge attack and badass AoE fable art? Yes please 🥳

got the coil head weapon and it's insane

It is fun, but needs a faster weapon handle for full effect. You are still early and you are guaranteed to find even cooler weapons. Don't sweat the moonstone upgrades as they become relatively abundant. Do not waste your cranks on a whim as those are really limited.

I played 10 hours already and I absolutely love it. Visually it is gorgeous at times and it feels extremely polished, which unfortunately becomes rare nowadays.

Gameplay is also tight and very enjoyable, and to be honest I was not expecting such a brutal game in terms of difficulty. Not a problem for me I do love my challenge in video games, but I can already see some nerfs happening.

thanks for advice !!

Getting destroyed by the bishop. I somehow can't dodge in this game, parry all the way but it's not easy this way either

It's weird becuase dodge is very short and little iframes.
But the parry is not doing anything either. It does not stop the enemy from attacking and leave you open for next attack

It's a balance act. Create space , attack, back off. Enemy comes in you learn pattern for the parry of part/all, proceed to block the rest then regain health via attack window. Lots of bosses you can get behind them with spacing and timing to avoid damage.

Also later you get access to better dodge skill tree options and the Aegis legion arm which is a shield. You can also get a grind stone that makes your guard be far more effective. Also weapons have a guard and block regain stats that are important to not taking much chip damage or losing stamina.

There is a TON of systems in play.

I can't figure it out.
When I bait enemy, he does only 1 attack but when I get in close, he does a rush of attacks and I cannot get in

Played it today on Series X from Gamepass. Got heavy VRR flickering on a LG C1.
Same on pc. Game almost locks to 120fps but whenever it falls to 100-120fps, the flicker is bad.
I think that's because whole game operates in this grey color scheme that is affected by vrr flicker and because fps changes erratically

Experiment. Change up weapons, watch a video of someone else on same boss/area to see what you garner.

I've had no issues with the parry/block/dodge system. I'm often just using my small windows to either use an electric coated weapon on a puppet enemy or use charged heavy attacks to stagger them quickly. I'm focused on a great sword build.

I think I read somewhere the parry button needs to be held not tapped. So a hit happens, you parry and hold for a bit, then release.

If an enemy is doing a quick flurry of blows you're likely to not get parry for all multi hits and need to just get the initial parry and hold block for the remainder.

The hardest boss so far was chapter 6 boss. This will test all of what you've learned in the game. Proper dodging , parrying , use of consumable items, and much more.

yeah was about to say. Will disabling VRR fix it? It's the first game I've noticed it in and it's really annoying. Can't check now

It's confusing my brain that parry does not put enemy in stagger state... but it builds up for "Staggerable" state and only they you have to hold R2... it's just bad unintuitive controls.
I will play later this week

I don't find the game unintuitive at all. Clicked very easily coming from any other souls like title.

I parry or block or dodge for what is appropriate , then I attack. There is multiple ways TO attack and to get enemies to stagger. You can stagger even via just light attacks and no parries simply by non stop onslaughting them. Enemies can also get into a state of stun lock if you assault them repeatedly before they break out of it.

Don't sleep on coating weapons to get them to crumble faster. Electric for puppets, fire for humans, etc.

There is a lot of tools. Expand how you go about a fight.

Certain bosses I've used my electric baton dagger handle combo . Others I've done great sword that transforms into a long halberd like blade with lowered stamina consumption so I can attack from safer distances. Areas up to bosses I use an axe if the environment has small corridors so I don't hit walls.

Just experiment until you find your flow.

Some tips/tricks for those who are just starting out (some of this should be obvious):

- unlocking 3rd amulet slot should be a priority

- you can never go wrong upgrading healing potions

- 59% is the threshold to maintain light weight/movement so Capacity stat becomes increasingly important even if you're running a "light" build. Why? The weight of defensive accessories becomes increasingly heavy. Combine that with Arms and weapon weight and you can easily go over.

- moreso than Souls, if you're running a Dex build (Technique) then investing any points in Strength (Motivity) is useless since there isn't any armor stat requirements to worry about.

- use the phantom NPC on boss fights if you're having trouble. It will do some decent DMG but more importantly, serve as a distraction allowing you to let loose from behind a boss/buy time to heal etc.

- DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THROWABLES! These also have stat scaling and can make the difference between victory and defeat. I've had a couple of boss battles where I'd used up all my healing potions, boss was down to 15-20% health and I finished it off with Throwables.

- tutorial says you CANNOT dodge attacks when the enemy glows red. This is confusing because the truth is you can (and more often than not should!) but just make sure you're not in the impact zone.

- enemy specific type amulets can make a tangible difference to DMG output, don't forget to switch them out depending on the area you're in/enemy type you're facing.

- because you can alter stat scaling through Cranks (brilliant idea!) you should absolutely experiment with a variety of weapons. However, you CANNOT change the stat scaling of Arms (after 20 hours at least, doubt this will change). Luckily the 2 Arms I favour most scale with Tech lol

- carefully consider what to use boss souls on, weapon or amulet. If you've already got a formidable weapon then I'd lean toward amulet even if that boss weapon scales with the build I'm running. Example: last night I beat a boss, could make a badass weapon that scales with Tech. I've already got a great boss Tech weapon, the amulet on the other hand increases ALL Arm tiers by +1 (so if the Arm had A scaling it now has S). That's going to help my build much more overall.

- charge attacks (R2) combined with Fable Arts (triangle) can quickly help put an enemy into a staggerable state. Obviously depends on the weapon/attack with heavier weapons building stagger window quicker.

- although you can equip 2 sets of weapons it's not worth doing so because of the increased weight. Of course, if you're happy having a heavier build and don't mind the movement/stamina penalty then go right ahead!

Hope that helps anyone having trouble with the game though honestly this is easier than any of the Souls games and should be more "accessible" to a wider audience.
When you said you were killing bosses in one or two tries, was it with the NPC or without ?

Took me a few tries to beat the first boss, but I haven't finised a Souls like game since Demon Souls although I have dabbled a bit in Dark Souls 1/2.
This is clicking for me more than those have for some reason.

I changed my config and was getting some cheap hits on me because of it...lol
Overall he wasn't too hard. I really need to mix that Legion arm in more for those kind of fights and kind of forget it's there.

Edit: Sprint + Special was great for getting in some hits relatively safely.

It took me like 40 minutes but I finally killed parade master...
Anyway - my 3080 is screaming hot lol. It's so loud with this. I need to get to some cleaning..

Upgrade the salamander dagger and use it with the flamethrower arm.

Also, if you have thermites (the bombs), use them too.

I died so much for him, then I used those and he died on the first try.

Just got to the black rabbit brotherhood gang. Felt nicely impossible, pretty sure I'll figure it out tomorrow. Arsenal keeps getting crazier, loving all the new toys especially arm upgrades

Both, why?

After using Falcon Eyes for the past 10 hours I switched back to Puppet String and fully upgraded it, the level 3 ability is powerful as fuck for both DMG and building stagger plus yanking mfs towards Pinocchio dealer of Death always feels satisfying.

This game looks really nice, clean, consistent and performs near flawlessly (so far) on a PC that usually struggles with new games. I thought I had enough of Souls after Elden Ring but it seems fun enough so far, maybe it was the generic open world bloat that wore thin instead of the gameplay style.

because i wanted to know if i suck at the game

i'm struggling more and more with each boss, only the first two were really easy, so if people would beat those bosses first try without the npc that would make me worried about my skill or my understanding of the game

i did try the cathedral boss with the NPC and i got him on my first try like that (after several failed attempts alone, so it's definitely totally different)

Well, then use the NPC, that's what it's there for!

good luck with the flamethrowers. that bit roughed me up some

Didn't even touch me, clown was a problem though lol

Back in the groove from the demo, kicked the first boss's ass.

Great to be back in Hotel Krat.

Chose the Strength starting weapon as I went balanced first in the demo.
