Lies of P |OT| Woodborn

I don't know if this is easier than Souls games or if the starting area is just a warm up. Either way I'm surprised I was able to get through the 1st boss after 2-3 tries. Game seems to depend on parries and blocks.

I feel like it's missing something because it isn't the fires of the streets of Yharnam. It has a lot of good parts that come off flat by comparison. I am having a good time. It's certainly thought out. I'm looking forward to playing more.

I miss that whole invisible celestial creature hanging on the side of a large cathedral. Ya know? Lol

Played a bit tonight, looks really good in High Framerate Quality Mode. Will play more over the weekend.

Romeo at chapter 6 will come bring you back down to Earth.

I finally beat the first boss after turning it on and saying to myself I'll give it one more go... then the title splash screen.

I don't many how many times I've thought I've been playing something for hours only to be met with the title splash screen.

It's pretty linear and feels like DS2. Levels don't loop into themselves like in Bloodborne or Dark Souls 1. You'll go from Zone A to Zone B etc. The zones do feature shortcuts to make return treks to boss fights easy, but there haven't been any mindblowing shortcuts like Dark Souls 1's ladder/elevators.

Only because people allow them to be. The culture of 'must play this now so I can talk about it on social media,' is absolutely fucking poisonous.

And it's the fault of the consumer that they feel the need to buy and play everything fucking day one. The greedy ass companies are just taking advantage of the ridiculous consumer culture.

Chill out, play at your own pace, get to the next game when you get to it.

^ I'm guilty of this but it's because gaming is a passion and want to see what the dev has achieved. On the other side, yes, it's bad for the quality of games and I end up being overwhelmed with games I don't complete. I've gotten a little better this last year, I have not played a lot and waited on a lot of things as opposed to previous years of just pre ordering nearly everything.

To the 3 people that care, it available on the Mac App Store, but Steam only for Windows.
Sad, would have been great to have it on my MacBook, PC and Deck.

Wow it released for Mac as well at the same time as everything else. Huh, that's pretty rare.

When I did my BB Level 4 playthroughs, I never really parry unless I want to cheese mfers to death. 2Ez. Dodging is too much fun.
I've seen some freaking sweet one shot DLC final boss with the parry.

A part of me wishes there was a stagger meter.

The feeling of the "weekend game" and then "no one is playing that anymore" type of mentality sucks. I use to not care only because I had endless hours to sink. Games are still fun even when you can't beat them in 2-3 days. It's kinda discouraging when you've spent $70 or more and the whole thing is basically exploited for the duration of the "launch". I know I sound hypocritical because when it's all moving along and I've gotten to X or Y, things don't really matter so much. Other times it just sucks and you get this feeling like game developers make games for games journalists because they're the people not getting everything exploited day 0-1.

One shot parries... Yes. I am familiar. Maxed level, everything into Str, Bloodtinge and Arcane. Stamina over Vit. Best Cursed gems in town, maxed out weapon variants. Etc. I was pushing Best damage like 9 years ago. The best damage you can get in the entire game! I then pushed for the same for BL4, but quit short of 2 bosses + some gems.

As someone who originally thought this game was going to be total cheeks, and that Lords of the Fallen would likely be the first good attempt at a souls like... man was I wrong.

Depending on how these last few chapters pan out I'll be shifting my best games of this year list a lot.

This game is sooo daaaaamn good.

Played, and enjoyed, the demo and as it's on Game Pass I figured "why not"?
It looks really nice, runs great, is challenging, but can be a bit frustrating too.

All told, I'd certainly recommend it to any third person action fans (souls fans will already have their opinion, I'd imagine).
Just try it on Game Pass, or use the demo if you don't want to buy it on Steam*.

(*The demo will give you a good idea of what's in store without the need to do a 2 hour refund).

No DF yet?
Quality Mode seems janky, probably actually gonna play this in Performance for once.

Just started chap 4 (after Fuoco) it is pretty good. Perfect parry feels good but hard to pull

What have you guys planned for build? Going full Motivity here

That's what my build is. It's working but I'm also trying out multiple weapons to see where I end up when I can respec
The narrative twists in this game tho 🤯🤯🤯

Past 26 hours now, I just want the game to keep going and keep surprising me.
Do you find yourself grinding for levels? I'm 6 hours into it and I'm at level 34.

Good game.

Combat is entirely built around parry, so my advice would be to get to grips with it from the off. I'm training myself to only roll as a last resort.

Never "grinded" once if we have the same definition which is it to say run through areas multiple times for the sole purpose of gaining XP. If I'd I returned to areas it was sidequest related, I fully explore levels top to bottom my 1st time through them, pretty sure I've found every secret/sidequest.

He was wrecking me last night. Slept it off, and beat him this morning.
He has that like 4-5 hit combo and parrying every part of it felt great.
I get him to phase 2 fairly easy. It's that phase that wrecks me.
I grinded a little Ergo to lvl up my build and will tackle him again today.

Really enjoying the gun so far

I'm early in game,, just at the first real boss. Graphics and atmosphere are top notch, but the roll/ dodge kind of sucks. At least for me. I feel like in the souls games it works better. In this game I just have to block more. Not sure if I like it.

Just got to the black rabbit brotherhood gang. Felt nicely impossible, pretty sure I'll figure it out tomorrow. Arsenal keeps getting crazier, loving all the new toys especially arm upgrades
This one gave me a fucking hard time man. Like Malenia or Orphan of KoS in new game+. The game is brutal in its difficulty.

I think I play too "conservatively"for this game and I still need to find its pace. I always play Souls games with a very minimalistic approach in my gameplay (no magic, no items, no summons, no parry, only use and upgrade one standard weapon) but I guess in this one you have to think differently and use all your options.

But I dont know, it also feels like the game wants you to beat the bosses exactly the way it wants. If you don't want to use the parry, the game will crush you for instance. I would have prefered more freedom.

Nonetheless, this is a fantastic game and I am completely hooked.

There's a vid on yt of a Esoterickk doing that fight with only dodge/run and with no hit/damage. So definitely possible to do without parry.

Yeah that is what I did. Just took me 40 tries haha
took me about 15 fails with the summon and eventually I did it solo by breaking his sword. If you break it early by the time you're done with the first little rabbit which is the biggest pain in the ass moment of the fight - the main guy loses most of his range and those 2 other sidekicks of his are fairly easy to backstab. Firebombs are useful there

The dialog in this game really falls flat on its face. The story is also ridiculously simple and bare bones. All the metal doll slashing keeps it from feeling like the Bloodborne game they are so desperate to try to emulate.

I'm just shit at parrying.

I had to get good with sekiro but i'm usually pretty bad.

I just can't wrap my head around parrying (I've started and given up on Sekiro numerous times) but had the most success with Bloodborne's system.

I'm still really early on in Lies of P as I'm using it for Daily achievements. There is something a little underwhelming about the weapon impact in the game, but maybe that's because I rolled a dexterity based character and he starts of with a rapier like weapon which I'm not really a fan of. I just beat the mini boss before the first bonfire (forgot the nomenclature Lies of P uses) after dying to him the first two times. I'm not really sure what activated the stagger/killing blow mechanic. I'd gotten a few perfect parries on him previously and his health bar changed to a highlighted status. I like the game so far but I really want to get a different weapon ASAP. The visually are really nice and it seems to be a solid performer on Series X. Can't really say I'm a fan of how bloody your shirt gets.

Sekiro was so good that it made me like parry for 50-60 hours.

I was uber shit with the gun parry in bb except against the fatties with the brick.

Yeah that's the perfect parries and your attacks in general and charged attacks works even better

I am getting drill by the chapter 4 boss I will give it a fresh go tomorrow

When the enemy health bar flashes white that means if you do heavy attacks/enough damage then they will be put into a downed state where you can do a critical attack on them (shown by the orange slash icon).

I want to love Sekiro and I certainly don't hate it, I'm just utter shit at it. It's the only modern From game that I've not been able to make progress in. Fucking love the setting.

Zheph Zheph & R6Rider R6Rider , thank you!

What have you guys planned for build? Going full Motivity here

I have done a lot of weight increases with conductivity I believe it's called. It has allowed me to never be "slightly heavy" while using great swords on small handles, 4 amulets, max weight accessories with boosts. Can get off 4+ attacks before stamina bar depleted and it refills super fast with one of the amulets for stamina regen.

Then it's higher in motivity around 26 or 28 with some technique at low 20s. Even with a weapon that scales B in mot and C in technique , my main weapon is getting more attack increases with raising technique. Plus technique adds defense stats too.

I like you went hard motivity in the start to see that even with a weapon with A scaling only into motivity isn't as good as a split between the two.
