I'm sure I've got more stashed somewhere.

"What do you think, great king? Suppose a man, trustworthy and reliable, were to come to you from the east and on arrival would say: 'If it please your majesty, you should know that I come from the east. There I saw a great mountain, as high as the clouds, coming this way, crushing all living beings [in its path]. Do whatever you think should be done.' Then a second man were to come to you from the west... Then a third man were to come to you from the north... Then a fourth man were to come to you from the south and on arrival would say: 'If it please your majesty, you should know that I come from the south. There I saw a great mountain, as high as the clouds, coming this way, crushing all living beings. Do whatever you think should be done.' If, great king, such a great peril should arise, such a terrible destruction of human life — the human state being so hard to obtain — what should be done?"

"If, lord, such a great peril should arise, such a terrible destruction of human life — the human state being so hard to obtain — what else should be done but Dhamma-conduct, right conduct, skillful deeds, meritorious deeds?"

"I inform you, great king, I announce to you, great king: aging and death are rolling in on you. When aging and death are rolling in on you, great king, what should be done?"

"As aging and death are rolling in on me, lord, what else should be done but Dhamma-conduct, right conduct, skillful deeds, meritorious deeds?"

Are you taking steps to actually find a good woman? I know with cov19 it's more difficult but what were you doing? Good women rarely fall in our laps with open arms as you know. Its takes serious work.

don't look for meaning in consuming things. it is an endless cycle and you will only feel hollow due to the lack of any real satisfaction.

imo modern consumer society makes people feel this way on purpose, it is good for money. but it does alienate us from one another.

i would recommend seeking out traditional stories. religious texts. legends. myths. classical fantasy. you will discover so much meaning woven into those stories.

the stuff we have now is all cynical nihlist commie bullshit, written by people who have never lived. no wisdom to be gained from them.

look to the past. orient yourself historically. think of how far we've come. life is pretty damn good once you realize the alternatives.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Life is about giving and receiving. It's about sharing.

There's a tale which a Rabbi told me once that explains it. It's a complicated story, so I'll refrain from writing it here. But that's basically the gist of it. You receive, you give, in different ways, with different people and different places.

We do that a lot, but don't even realize how important it is.

Life has meaning. There is always a reason and purpose for everything.

Life is more than meets the eye. Esoteric...yes. Some can learn and understand the truth if they choose to stop being blind and deaf.

Do you have eyes to see and ears to hear? Only then will you find what is the purpose of life and so much more.

Beyond spending it with people that understand and share similar values and beliefs

No amount of material things or money has brought me lasting happiness. Bought a new car and was emotionally flat 5 minutes later. It was a necessity at the time but really showed me that money can't buy happiness

All I want at this point is a good loving and understanding woman to share my life with
One that doesn't have to give time and life away for a check each month

Cause right now, it's the same ole shit each and everyday

Yeah, I'm basically using this as a journal entry
Whatever. I could go on all day about this shit

Talk to me

You have to create meaning, and it’s not easy.

Some of y’all need Jesus

But also I can’t recommend enough taking the time to do a deep dive into the torment of existentialism and figure out a way to come out of it that doesn’t end in depression or nihilism. For me it’s Christianity, for others it’s some other religion, and for others still it’s some form of positive secular humanism.

I can tell you from my own life that living life from one material or mindless entertainment experience to the next isn’t the way.

Life has whatever meaning you want to give it. Its a man made concept.

My thought's exactly. Life just is. There is no meaning to it other then what you give it. Life can mean something different to each of us and change as we move forward.

1 For, not thinking rightly, they said among themselves:
“Brief and troubled is our lifetime;
there is no remedy for our dying,
nor is anyone known to have come back from Hades.

2 For by mere chance were we born,
and hereafter we shall be as though we had not been;
Because the breath in our nostrils is smoke,
and reason a spark from the beating of our hearts,

3 And when this is quenched, our body will be ashes
and our spirit will be poured abroad like empty air.

4 Even our name will be forgotten in time,
and no one will recall our deeds.
So our life will pass away like the traces of a cloud,
and will be dispersed like a mist
Pursued by the sun’s rays
and overpowered by its heat.

5 For our lifetime is the passing of a shadow;
and our dying cannot be deferred
because it is fixed with a seal; and no one returns.

6 Come, therefore, let us enjoy the good things that are here,
and make use of creation with youthful zest.

7 Let us have our fill of costly wine and perfumes,
and let no springtime blossom pass us by;

8 let us crown ourselves with rosebuds before they wither.

9 Let no meadow be free from our wantonness;
everywhere let us leave tokens of our merriment,
for this is our portion, and this our lot.

10 Let us oppress the righteous poor;
let us neither spare the widow
nor revere the aged for hair grown white with time.

11 But let our strength be our norm of righteousness;
for weakness proves itself useless.

12 Let us lie in wait for the righteous one, because he is annoying to us;
he opposes our actions,
Reproaches us for transgressions of the law
and charges us with violations of our training.

13 He professes to have knowledge of God
and styles himself a child of the LORD.

14 To us he is the censure of our thoughts;
merely to see him is a hardship for us,

15 Because his life is not like that of others,
and different are his ways.

16 He judges us debased;
he holds aloof from our paths as from things impure.
He calls blest the destiny of the righteous
and boasts that God is his Father.

17 Let us see whether his words be true;
let us find out what will happen to him in the end.

18 For if the righteous one is the son of God, God will help him
and deliver him from the hand of his foes.

19 With violence and torture let us put him to the test
that we may have proof of his gentleness
and try his patience.

20 Let us condemn him to a shameful death;
for according to his own words, God will take care of him.”

21 These were their thoughts, but they erred;
for their wickedness blinded them,

22 And they did not know the hidden counsels of God;
neither did they count on a recompense for holiness
nor discern the innocent souls’ reward.

23 For God formed us to be imperishable;
the image of his own nature he made us.

24 But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world,
and they who are allied with him experience it.

The meaning, for me, of life is to find and maximize happiness.

Imo after years of failing this quest, I find helping others and standing tall with integrity as the best way to get were I want to go. Volunteer, help those less fortunate and when you want to be harsh, step back and search for kindness. The last one is the hardest and I know I have a lot more work to do

I also get insane happiness from my children, watching little me’s grown and learn is amazing.

The true meaning of life is simply to reproduce and pass on your genetic material to the next generation. That's it.

When I was around 30, I was thinking about a family, and I met a nice girl. I got a great job, we got married, 3 years later a beautiful child came to birth, really a lovely family and a lot of money. But do you know what ? One year ago I discovered that my wife was cheating on me since early 2017, and believe me, I felt very very bad, at that time, when I discovered she was a cheater, I was in Saudi Arabia, in Dammam, working for an arabic Company as A320 Captain, far away from my wife and kid. I had to do it, the contract was 12,000 euro per month, six months contract, and I decided to do it to collect some money and build a better future for my family. It was a full time contract, and I could go Home only once every month and half for 7-10 days maximum.
For me it was a big sacrifice, but I was doing this to build a better future. In the mean time my lovely wife was goinjg out together with her lover and my young son, almost every day. She spent a lot of money, she gave money to this bastard, and I will finish here. I felt lost, and I resigned a month earlier to go back home and see what was going on. The wife of this bastard told me everything, think about, and I couldn't believe in the beginning, but she sent me pictures where my wife was kissing him. After I discovered much other shit, that I'm still disgusted, life can be hard sometimes....

When I got married with her, I thought she was the girl for the entire life, of course, an angel. Now I think she is a prostitute of the worst kind, life is a variable :D

that's not a meaning, or a purpose

it's what we tend to do, because of evolution

but fact remains there's no inherent meaning to it

It's the only reason why you and I are here is it not? That is our meaning, purpose and reason for existence.

What is the meaning of life to the Lion, or the Humpback whale? We may have a higher state of consciousness than these beings and are able to create works of art and create technology, but the basic point of our existence is the same.

When people ask what the meaning of life is, they are referring to what life means for themselves. What do they want to achieve, or what goals supposed to fullfil to be satisfied when the end draws near. That's all arbitrary and based on personal perspective.

If we're talking about why we're here, then for me anyway, the only logical answer is to reproduce and keep the human race going.

I only agree that's the 'reason' we're here in a cause and effect sense. We are here because our ancestors bred.

We could choose not to do that. There's nothing inherent that says we have to procreate, or there's a purpose/meaning to it. It's just our overwhelming instinct because of evolution

People put too much thought into it. I just do things that I love and don't give a fuck that what I do won't matter to anyone but me and my loved ones. I love games, lifting, fucking, and eating. Rinse and repeat till your dust.

Could we? Sexual attraction exists to push us into reproducing. That's also why sex feels good, because if it didn't we probably wouldn't bother.

If we could however overcome our biological urges and stop reproducing, the outcome then would be the end of humanity.

You're right, OP. Living has to be much simpler than most people think. Our reach is small, we should understand that. Unfortunately the internet and social media made a lot of people think they are "citizens of the world". You're not. Focus on your community and mainly on your family and a few good friends. It doesn't get much better than that.

PS: I love buying shit I like, but I know it won't last.

Jesus man! I'm sorry you wen through that. Me and my lady went through a rough patch and we agreed that she should go on a date. Even knowing before hand what was going to happen it was still very hard on me. Can't imagine what you were going through

Unfortunately my time in the military showed me how married people of both sexes are willing to fuck around when deployed, away from home

Money can definitely buy happiness. It buys you a nice hungarian whore, a nice bottle of Jack Daniels and some quality cigarettes.
Now that's happiness.

To quote Pascal:

What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace?

This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God himself.”

I ain’t no saint. But, I at least have this much figured out. What you are searching for, no woman or like-minded friends can give. Only true satisfaction can be found in the forgiveness of and in knowing God.

God is a broad term. Not sure I believe in a bearded man in the sky.

But I do believe there's something greater than man that works behind the scenes

What it is or is called? I can't claim to have that knowledge

But I hear you

I don’t believe in the bearded man either? I think that’s a caricature of who God is. I do think though that God might be using the pain of loneliness to get your attention. Don’t write it off completely.

Hope your life takes a turn for the better this week. 👍

Every life has meaning, because every life has the potential to discover meaning. Not everyone is exactly alike, but maintaining healthy bonds with others, creating a family, and honestly pursuing your interests are all fine places to start.

NOBODY believes in a 'bearded man in the sky'....

Exactly right, that is a caricature -- or more accurately, a relative-to-man idea of our creator.

I always cringe when I hear that statement, which stem from our relatively ignorant notions interpreted from Middle Ages art, drawing from Biblical metaphors.

This whole thread needs to read Ecclesiastes - so much would be learned and it would only take 20 minutes.

It starts with "life is a waste of time" as the predicate and goes through all the logics.

Solomon gets it.

On atheism, yes, life has no meaning. But on theism, however, life can have profound meaning and we have great hope and purpose. God made you to share in His divine life and love forever.

This reminds me of the beginning of the Baltimore Catechism that I have been teaching my children:

1. Q. Who made the world?
A. God made the world.

2. Q. Who is God?
A. God is the Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things.

3. Q. What is man?

A. Man is a creature composed of body and soul, and made to the image and likeness of God.

6. Q. Why did God make you?
A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven.

9. Q. What must we do to save our souls?
A. To save our souls, we must worship God by faith, hope, and charity; that is, we must believe in Him, hope in
Him, and love Him with all our heart.

10. Q. How shall we know the things which we are to believe?
A. We shall know the things which we are to believe from the Catholic Church, through which God speaks to us.

Maybe life has no meaning, but if you try to give meaning to life you will find that, oddly enough, it collaborates a whole lot. You just have to pay attention.

Incidentally I just found out about Eve's music and MV's and they are really beautiful. I'm really happy to be alive in this moment with the internet filled with beautiful art exploring these concepts.

I’m very physical person who likes to connect with people, so I should pursue career paths that help satisfy that. I should do things that help me satisfy that. Money really isn’t a requirement for that, I don’t need all the things.

I wish I knew this when I was 18.

Life has no meaning, but you can identify your inclinations and guide your life towards that way, so you can be happier.

I recommend getting involved in charity or volunteer work. It'll give you perspective, meaning, and it's also a way to meet decent people. If you have the money, join a non religious mission trip to a third world country and see what they go through just to survive another day. Help build a school or sanitary water system, something that requires physical labor and yields a visible result.

Living for yourself rarely has any meaning or makes us truly happy. It's probably coded into our genetics or something, otherwise we wouldn't survive as a species. Try helping someone else who is struggling and see what that does for you.
