Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Opening Cinematic

Summary of what the fuck is going on (massive spoilers ahead):

...

Seriously, how the fuck do they expect newcomers to understand a damn thing? There had better be one hell of a summary portion in the datalog.

Thank you for posting all that! I didn't play XIII-2, and I probably won't play this, but I was curious, having heard how convoluted and wacky the whole story is.

And now... Now, I feel even more like this:

Agreed. Visual Works' CGs are absolutely eye orgasmic. I feel like I got rewarded when a CG pops up in a FF game.
I think the time when CG cutscenes felt like a reward have long gone my friend. The gap between CG and real time isn't as big as it used to be.

Isn't as big as it used to be, you are right on that, but there is still a decent gap between Visual Work's CG and Square's in-game models.

I was looking at new screen shots and man...

That's a lot of gauges. I wonder what they all do.

Left circle is Overclock, spent on slowing time, special attacks, and healing.

Green is health.

Blue is your current Schema's ATB bar.

The two above that are the ATB bars of your other two Schema, since they recharge independently.

I'm not expecting to know her entire backstory and purpose, just some small details to explain why they know her. I know her name is Lumina since I did watch the opening :P

Only Snow knows her at this point, afaik. She seems to be a all-knowing-taunting-trickster type character who like to screw with Lightning, but we don't know anything about her backstory or motivation.

Also sorry for double post. It's been a long day and I wasn't thinking. ><

Because the general Consensus on this board is that the XIII-saga storyline is an incompehensible trainwreck. (And since it has somehow become a fad to stress this in every thread.) Therefore, I think that people want to reaffirm this mindset as often as they can.

The XIII-stories weren't masterpieces, but quite entertaining and far from incomprehensible imo if you were somehow interested in them and managed to keep up.

Just because it's easy to understand doesn't make it interesting. Even great masterpieces sometimes have holes in their stories because it kills the narrative drive to explain every little thing ; as long as your story flows well it doesn't matter, but you certainly can't say that about any of M.T.'s plots. Throwing a bunch of obscure terms explained off screen in an infodump isn't great narrative at all.
So for the people who have skimmed through the surface because the story doesn't warrant anymore, it's easy to understand that they're lost because they didn't bother to follow every nonsense subplot about every character in the saga. Not being cohesive in almost every recurring character/personal issues just creates a giant clusterfuck that nobody wants to decipher and gets in the way of enjoying what little story there is.
Honestly who gives a F about what Light feels ? This mockery of a tragedy couldn't be arsed to give a little in the way of character empathy, don't expect me to care about what their ridiculous struggle is about. Let's just save the world and go home.
