Shit song.

And I get the point she's trying to make, but surely she's just done exactly the same things to the dancers that she's complaining the music industry are trying to do to her.

this is the best thing ever

Pretty fucking entertaining video. Wanted her back for a while now.

Not a patch on The Fear, and there's something disingenuous about pop artists pissing on pop music like they're above the industry's rules.

I'd say she's allowed. It's not like this is a massive tonal shift for her, she's always been fairly outspoken both on and off her records.

Besides, I'd rather she say it than, say, Sinead O' Connor.

And here I thought this was too heavy-handed.

Lily has a great singing voice and she's made an entire career off shitting on other pop stars. Sort of like Eminem, really.

hrm...it was 4 hours later...I don't know...

Azalea was ceommenting on Lily Allens husbands dick.. that it was so small etc.

That cannot be a coincidence. It also probably takes time to decorate a cock like that, so that would explain the 4 hours ;)

No, the only people that can say it are those that are completely separated from the machine. She slags off the music industry like a Hollywood actress slagging off the movie industry. She's no Mel Gibson. Just a singer who's famous because of her dad, trying to be edgy from within the confines of a system she feels safest in.

And her dad is who?

I can't say I like Lily Allen or the song all that much, but I'm just glad to see someone, anyone, take the utter piss out of Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and the recent escalating sex trend in music (yes it's always been about sex but lately it's been even worse).

Complain about having to adhere to super model standards.

have super model like dancers in your video.

Seems on point.

Contacts, how do they work? The public awareness of her is just the tip of the iceberg in industry terns.

Commenting from inside an industry is just part of its homogenised ideal, the fact the industry is accepting of this commentary should raise alarm bells. If it was truly shattering it wouldn't be so willing to accept and package it. That's the problem, and why these types of protests are jokes.

Can she still be named Lily Allen after getting divorced? I thought she had changed her name to Lily Rose Cooper.

EDIT: Wait, she didn't get divorced, she got married XD

Yeah it will probably be easier to get into the business but she is famous because lots of people enjoy her music, not because her father is some nobody actor.

Michael Jackson is also famous 'because' of family.

Fellow feminists are saying this is what's wrong with white feminism. She is using black women as objects. I don't know what I think of it. I don't know if what I think really matters in this regard. Any one who is affected by such objectification care to give us your thoughts?

Well you can look at N Dubz as a more fitting example, rather than The Jacksons.

Lilly Allen's debut album charted at number 2. That kind of stuff, even with the uptake of grassroots social media at the time, doesn't happen without ferocious string pulling from management.

Seems a bit unfair to attribute her success to that. That album reviewed extremely well, I suppose feuding with celebrities and making bold statements kept her in the spotlight as well.

Susan Boyle did it even better ;)

Reading the Wiki, she seemed to have worked pretty hard for that debut to succeed. And while I am sure she has used her dads connections, I think saying that she is only famous because of him does not do her justice. Especially not because of the (generally) positive critics.

Talent shows are the industry distilled, but not a 100% comparison unless Susan had an agent before appearing. Still good enough, I can roll with it.

Our definitions of trying hard may vary. There's a huge difference between climbing a mountain and getting airlifted to the top where you have to try hard to stay. In terms of industry and press, it's all connected so not a good indicator really. She is famous because of him, but not necessarily because he is famous. That is a very myopic view.

Some feminists really do overthink things...

It's amazing just how many people cannot grasp satire.

I like Lily, but she can be.. insufferable. What does she think she is accomplishing. Get your life. While are you so bothered. Lilly isn't some choir girl and that was always her charm. This whole I'm above that stuff act is disappointing.

I actually really love Lily's first album.

Unfortunately, this sounds like something from her second, over-produced, radio friendly album.

It's a more logical conclusion than she is famous because her father is a D-list actor.

Only if you actually believe it, which is nice and convenient I guess. But then there was no point in having this discussion if you weren't going to read what I wrote.

Doesn't she sort of touch upon this in the song 'The Fear' though? She is somewhat ambiguous in what she really feels about it, but she is still holding a spotlight to it.

Although in her new song it seems to be focused more specifically at the music industry.

she is my favourite pop artist, really like the lyrics and the tunes.
I dont really listen to much pop though.

I thought she didnt want to make music anymore? I am glad she does, when is the album coming?

You stated she is famous because of her dad. I sincerely doubt her father is the biggest factor in her being famous. You cannot quantify how much influence her fathers 'famous-ness' or connections have had in her rise to fame. So yeah I guess there is not much of a discussion.

But say you are right, and it is just because of her dad that she became famous. It is still not really an indication of current popularity and quality of her work. So why did you bring it up in the first place? IS she discredited per se because she used connections?

"I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless but everyone know's thats how you get famous."

Yeah, she took a break for a little bit, glad she didn't retire for good. I think it's meant to be out early next year.
