Very sharp, but the product placement was so blatant - and irony-free - that it nearly subverted the subversion. Marketing is weird, man.

Also, Fuji's marketing that new Instax hard. It does look neat.

You're probably right, i am reading into things a bit. But at the same time, this is the same girl who posted blackface of her husbands wang. Admittedly, I know nothing anything about her and from what i've heard her music is pretty damn good; but It doesn't help her out.

Just looked that up...abit weird tbh. Definitely in poor taste.
Her music is meh imo and yeah, she is pretty unpleasant in real life.

the corniest thing i've seen and heard in months.

And now it isn't

Gotta love it when this holier than thou annoying attitude backfires like this. Shitty product placement, lots of booty and spanking (no spanking in the music videos she judges from her high horse) and she supposedly does to for satirical effect. Perfect logic. Let me film a hardcore porn film to make fun of those porn motherfuckers. That'll teach them!

Wow, it's been four years since her last album. Time flies.
Well, that's a trait particular to satire - if swathes of people fail to 'get it' and even confuse it for the real thing, then it has done its job.
Eh, if most people don't get the intended meaning, then it is hardly going to inspire change.

She's not holier than thou though. She complains about the game but she plays it anyway.

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don't care about clever, I don't care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they're trying to find them

And I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
'Cause everyone knows that's how you get famous
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track, yeah I'm on to a winner

I mean, for the record, she wore diamonds and took her clothes off for the camera. You have to wonder how much of the video is satire and how much is cynicism and self deprecation. Maybe she doesn't think good music is gonna sell anyway. I just wish she'd go back to the sound she had on her first album.

I can't agree more. The lyrics here are spot on but I can't stand the sound. She has a great voice without autotune crap(I'm sure it's intentional here, but this is what I'd expect from a YouTube artist or comedian)

I am honestly baffled at how unaware people are of what satire is

Satire was one of the first things murdered by widespread conversation on the internet. It was clumsily resurrected later on, but as a twisted "Get out of Jail Free" card to be used when the user would make a crappy gross joke and then attempt to say that the joke was intended to "make fun" of the sort of people who would say such gross, crappy things.

So far as many people are concerned, Satire is simply a two-syllable synonym for a Pee-Wee Herman-esque "I meant to do that."

I assumed that she made fun of other singers with those lyrics. Either she's self-deprecating or a huge hypocrite, don't know.

Mind blown when "Alfie" was in reference to him.

I needed to think for a minute who this chick was. I thought she disappeared from the music scene? Last time i can recall hearing a song of hers was "fuck you".

Yeah, it's been that long since she's released anything. She got married and had two kids.

EDIT: Wikipedia says she had two miscarriages before the birth of her children. Damn...

It saddens me that people didn't 'get' this. It's not like the satire was particularly subtle, either..UltimaPooh has the biggest case of obliviousness I have seen on this forum for a while.

The SONG is her commentary on the industry (THE VIDEO)

i dont get how some people are missing that.

it hurts my brain.

please explain this line to me

"I'm not going to shake my ass on you because I have a brain"

while she shows black women in the video shaking their ass. Because i don't understand this.

commentary (song) on what is occurring (video)

wut?

Searched 'Lily Allen blackface' but found nothing

Nope. I got it.

It's clear that others didn't get it... and that's what makes Allen's message messy when she adds those women in.

Whopty fucking do she reveals her Vagina is baggy but then she has ridiculously good women dancing behind her in sexualized outfits in sexualized ways.

It just ends up reinforcing everything.

The song is catchy and it's good but the video destroys any goodwill the song was trying to bring forth.

You are trying way too hard to attack this. Way too hard. I cant see how more obvious this video should be beside the guy in the suit telling them how to act while on the clip or listening to the lyrics. Or the obviously exaggerated movements and ass shaking, seriously.

While I like the message and understand the song is satirical, it doesn't prevent it from being a shitty song due to the satire. If she hadn't tried to ape the crapfests we're fed these days but kept the lyrics it might've been a good song and still possibly got through to the audience.

As it stands now I highly await hearing this song as half dressed hotties twerk at the clubs, so mission unaccomplished.

Never been a fan of Lily's. She's tried a lot of things with different genres in the past and it hasn't worked for me. I do like this song though - very catchy and her voice isn't dominating quite so much. I also like the message - women shouldn't be reduced to shaking asses and thrusting vaginas in popular culture.

Should've had dancing nuns tbh

Twerking nuns. Gitit, gitit.

wut?

some celebrity gossip livejournal diary was the only source I could find. Seems like the rumor mill is doing whatever it does.

I also agree. I mean, I don't want to ever ask a woman not to shake her bottom but what Miley does looks wrong. It looks...vulgar. I don't like it. It doesn't seem like it's feminism or taking control of sexuality, it just looks...like gross exploitation. It doesn't help that she looks something like a raw chicken, flailing around up there, naked on a wrecking ball. It's like that stripper you know who has no business up on stage, yet they let her go, and no one is going up for tips or dances or requests, and everyone is avoiding eye contact. Just like someone should tell that 34 year old pregnant mother of 2 not to grind the pole, someone should be telling Miley to slow her roll. Not feeding her coke and blunts and booze to see just how far she'll go.

Naturally she's going to be wanting to please people for a certain response, and people will manipulate that. No matter how smart you think you are or hard you think you are, someone will know how to press your buttons. Someone has got her trying to torch her old persona for extra sexy adulthood dollars to appeal to the demo since she's not a tween queen anymore. And how ever you feel about that, consequences, free will, early manipulation and exploitation of an innocent for major commerce, or whatever. She's setting up big business dollars with every item of clothing she's photographed wearing or not wearing. So...if she's of age, and acting of her own free will...why do so many people have a problem?

People don't believe it maybe? They think she's an entertainment workhorse that has just been traded to a different stable? If it was someone else, would there be an issue? Is it all because of her fake Disney persona? People confusing reality with fantasy and assuming that she wouldn't want to just shoot for super-stardom, using the Britney formula if she has to?

And to those who may not be exposed to her, yes the autotune is part of the joke. She actually knows how to sing.

She definitely does. I remember hearing her live in a summer festival, and I was very impressed by her cover of "Heart of Glass".
Still, the autotune is annoying, even if it's on purpose. I prefer when her songs are both funny and pleasant to the ear. :)

This song is actually.... alright! Was expecting much worse.
The manager kinda reminds me of Saul Goodman.

I didn't mind the verses (high paise indeed) but the chorus is dreadful imo, in tune and sound. There is no need for the satirical autotune to pervade the entire song

Nothing to get. Just a standard oversexualized music video, devoid of any commentary, sarcasm, or satire. After all, you can't be satirical if the thing you're doing is similar to the thing you're criticizing.

Should've had dancing nuns tbh
Now THAT'S satire.

I think.

I love the video and the song. People who don't get this video or satire should check out The Onion once in a while.

She definitely does. I remember hearing her live in a summer festival, and I was very impressed by her cover of "Heart of Glass".
I have to hear this somehow.

Also, how the fuck are people missing the point on the autotune? Video opens with how she could get more popular, autotune is used once in the whole song. (not directing this at you Alx, obv)

Edit: Heart of Glass. Impressive, I had no idea!

Not a patch on The Fear, and there's something disingenuous about pop artists pissing on pop music like they're above the industry's rules.

The tweet just before that was a dig at Azealia. There's absolutely no way it wasn't referring to her.
hrm...it was 4 hours later...I don't know...

how does this kind of crap start anyway? Did Lily Allen's name come up in a google search for 'safest b-c lister to start a beef with for media publicity'?

Great video, great commentary on how the music industry works and what's wrong about it. Anyone who cannot see this, is probably one of the drones that actually believe Justin Bieber is a musician.
