saw up to episode 6 today. shows pretty good and im enjoying it a lot

i love the english from the norwegians. its so funny lol

Two episodes in and the show is a pleasant surprise. Not to mention HD looks gorgeous, as it should, given it's Netflix' baby.

Finished the series. It was ok. I can't help but want to punch Johnny in his permanent frown face. It also becomes hard to believe a short fat middle aged man muscling people like its no business.

Also, his hair piece looks like a cat laying on his head.

It feels a lot like some corny ass Sopranos fan fiction by some Norwegian dude. But it's still entertaining enough.

I'm on the last episode, kind of just wasted through it while I was eating and doing other activities.

I read earlier today that the misspelling is intentional, obviously, but I can't find the reason why.

Ah OK. I heard Steve on Howard Stern and the premise is he's in witness protection and can't speak a lick of Norwegian - so maybe that's how his character spells it.

Is there lots of subtitled Norwegian or is it all English with a really pronounced Norwegian accent?

Subtitled-Norwegian. It doesn't take away from the show. In fact, I think it adds to it. There is sprinkles of the Norwegian characters talking English.

Oh I'd rather it have subtitled Norwegian. I don't want to lose the little Norwegian that I have haha

Its cheesey but It's pretty funny so far. Watching first episode now. As someone mentioned earlier, the HD quality is really good. I don't know if it's all the snow or what but it looks good.

Watched the first two episodes and am sticking with it.

A warning to people who give up on things fairly quickly - The show's quality goes up a ton when he gets to Lilyhammer. It doesn't take too long but whatever crew shot the stuff in New York should be embarassed. The alley scene in particular is brutally amatuer/low budget.

finished it this morning, i really enjoyed it.

i thought johnny was a douchebag for the most part but he did do some good stuff here and there. overall, i would enjoy watching a second season

Not sure if you knew this already or not, but a second season has been renewed.

Are there Swedes on the show too, or was the arching of my eyebrow justified?

Perfectly justified haha, I didn't comment on this yesterday because I hadn't watched any of the show yet, so I gave Rev the benefit of the doubt. I can't recall how many of my friends asked me how Sweden/Finland was while I was living in Norway..

I enjoyed the first episode, as has been said before, the quality gets way better once they get to Norway. Love the fact that this is a Norwegian show, not just an American show set in Norway. Every little detail (Dolly Dimple's, Grandiosa, etc) was getting me all nostalgic. And the language mmmmmmm

Can just point out that Lilleammer is not as rural as it seems in the show. They just avoid showing any of the "civilized" locations (except the plans for the new ski resort)

Watched two episodes so far, I think I'm done. I did like the second episode more than the first, but I have absolutely no interest in the characters or the story. And I want to punch the music in the throat.

The entire series seems to be based on the assumption that you love everything whatshisname does on screen simply because he is whatshisname.

watched the first episode, liked it. was a great beggining for building characters

and the ptg subititles were prety good too, 'do jeitinho' = 'the fixer' hahahaha

You know, we never talked about how big of a bitch Johnny (Frank) is. Think about it, he sold out his mob family because he got shot at for disrespecting the new mob boss and them retaliating on him. Then like a little bitch he hid in the middle of nowhere. Furthermore, his frown is comedically aggressive.

Watched all 8 episodes in less than 24 hours.

By far not the best series ever, but it is also a very intersting one because of the scenary, costumes... you can leave the mafia but it neve leaves you. Johny get into some funny situations and handle all of them in his own way (far from what a random norwegian would do).

norwegian girls are awesome (obvious is obvious)

Watching 2nd episode now. He reminds me of Sasso's Steven Seagal where he has beef with anyone who's slightly disrespectful.

LILYHAMMER!!!!!!

Is basically what you see turning on Netflix on PS3. The Season literally takes up 80% of the screen. It's nuts.

I watched the all of the eps in two days back in March. I loved it. Hoping they do another season.

That's how I found it. They should do it more often tbh. It's not like there's much going on in the main screen, so as long as they don't get too carried away they should keep it up. If not for shows then new movies, etc.

Bump.

It's currently airing on BBC4 in the UK at the moment, but I binged on the Netflix offering. It's hilarious. Steve Van Zandt really hams it up to play a NY mobster in the vein of Silvio Dante. Everything is very caricatured, blunt and very deadpan. A lot of people seem to miss this point for some reason. It's not a drama where you have to follow or really care about the intricacies of the plot. The only thing in common with the Sopranos is the lead actor. It's a very simplistic black comedy. The Norwegians take the piss out of themselves by portraying themselves as these uber serious humourless drones with very thick accents. The language situation is funny in and of itself. It's about half Norwegian and half English, but the way it is done really adds to the humour of the show. It doesn't make logical sense, but it's not supposed to. Lot's of great one-liners, lovable characters, dark and deadpan jokes about immigration, bureaucracy, crime, and Norwegian society in general.

I think this show has gone over a lot of peoples heads. It lacks depth, but it's extremely funny. I would definitely encourage people to check it out.

As far as I'm aware it's a Norwegian produced show that parodies Norwegian society. It was obviously made with an international audience in mind, and Netflix just acquired the rights.

Need to get back to watching the 2nd half of the show. It's an odd show, but enjoyable. I remember being weirded out when SVZ goes from struggling to learn the language, to quickly understanding full speed Norwegian enough to reply in english correctly :lol

I just couldn't deal with how they're portraying Lillehammer. They make it look like a place in the middle of nowhere with 20 inhabitants, set in the 70s.
Being from Lillehammer myself, I was looking forward to seeing more of my hometown, but this show could have been shot anywhere.

It is odd indeed, and although the language situation doen't make any logical sense, it does provide a decent amount of humour. Scandinavians also speak excellent English which isn't portrayed correctly in the show.

I think the reason it is done as such is because of the perspective of the show. It's Norwegian produced, and it's a deadpan, black parody of what outsiders would imagine Norway to be, with an international (US, UK etc) audience in mind, so they decided to throw in 50% English and have some fun with it, while not getting too caught up in the logic. I think it actually adds to the quirkiness of the programme.

Again, this is down to the point I made above, about the parody and the perspective. It does have quite a vintage and washed out look and feel, too. Watching the show I'd have thought Lillehammer was some outpost in the Arctic Circle. lol. That's what the writers/producers were going for, I'd imagine.

I've always wanted to visit Norway, and I might have to add Lillehammer to my plans.

This show is pathetically bad. I speak as a Norwegian and it is just so badly acted and terrible dialogue all around. I didn't know it had audiences outside the country. There is gonna be a second season for those who like the show.

I get that was what they where going for, I just wish it felt a little more real.

You should definately come visit, just don't come in november-march... ;)

I've watched the first couple episodes so far and I really like it! It has laughs and I like the way things smoothly come together at some points- you can't help but grin and root for the main character.
