Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has committed suicide

I feel bad that Linkin Park fans have to qualify their condolences by acknowledging that critics weren't always kind to them.

Like what you like buddies.
Yeah i'm putting crawling on my playlist

I've actually never listened to their albums after meteora (reanimation didn't click with me) so it's time to rediscover their discography

Damn...RIP.

I didn't grow up listening to LP, but as I got older and started to branch out musically I started to. There was also something about his voice that I always felt was raw and passionate. Man, we lost another legend.

Even my mom is devastated by this. Linkin Park was the band to listen to in the early 2000s and one of the last few rock bands to become a household name.

89.7 the River is our local rock radio station and they actually had two of their DJ's or host on there reading Facebook posts, answering phone calls, and just simply talking about Chester. I listened to it on the way home. It was pretty good. I didn't want to listen to anything else. People were even telling them that no one else really cared.

They had all the cool vibes to their style that fit in with games and anime. I personally enjoyed A Thousand Suns and Minutes till Midnight even though Hybrid Theory was in my CD player a lot in high school.

I even used In The End in a 3D project for an animation class many years ago.

This death has hit me surprisingly hard considering I have not been a huge LP fan since Meteora. Like I have lost what was a huge part of my childhood. And the nostalgia feels are hitting me hard. There are probably a bunch of late 20's/30 year olds today who haven't listened to LP in a decade who are pretty beat up over this news today.

I had the chance to see LP again in May but decided not to buy tickets because I knew more than 50% of the show would be the post-meteora LP that has never really stuck with me much. Truth is they have quite a few good songs after Meteora. Should have went.

They headlined the first concert I ever went to, right when they were blowing up with Hybrid Theory. Didn't think this would hit me like it did. RIP.

I was looking back through their discography and each of my favorites came out at important times for me.

Hybrid Theory - Middle School, I went to four different schools for 6-8 grade.

Meteora - Early High School, just a shy dweeb at another new school

Minutes to Midnight - Graduation

Thousand Suns - When I was in Afghanistan

When I listen to the albums I can place myself in those times. I don't even really listen to rock music anymore but these guys will always have a special place for me.

RIP. This is kind of unreal. Hybrid Theory and Meteora were the albums my friends and I listened to growing up. Even though I didn't care much for any of their albums after Meteora, I always listened to their new ones just because I always liked Chester's singing.

RIP Chester. I thoroughly enjoyed Hybrid Theory, Reanimation, Meteora and Minutes to Midnight. It's amazing that his live performance is as good as the album, especially with all the exertion and screaming. I'm devastated.

edit: damn...just cracked up listening to Leave Out All The Rest

R.I.P to a wonderful musician who had to deal with a lot of demons throughout his life form abuse to addiction and then loss of a dear friend.

It an example that shows all the money in the world can still fail to put you in a good place and the importance of keeping good people around you. Form strong relationships and work hard on yourself to get through tough times. Don't give up.

Been listening to a bunch of LP's songs on that Spotify playlist today. I kinda lost interest in them after Meteora for the most part but now I find I enjoy a lot of their post-Meteora songs. It's like I'm rediscovering them but that makes it even sadder.
It kinda feels like an old friend passed away and now I feel sad that I didn't catch up with them more often.
And considering how much I loved them in those teenage school days I'm super bummed I never got to see them and Chester perform live.

I still listen to Hybrid Theory and Meteora. This news actually hit my daughter hard. She was just starting to get into Linkin Park. She loves the song Heavy and was asking to go to one of their concerts.

I hope his family gets threw this. RIP.

Completely lost track of them after their song in the second Micheal Bay Transformers film but this is really too bad.

First two albums were fun at least at the time in large part thanks to his singing ability.

Just awful. Hard to imagine someone becoming so low despite his success and family, but that's the reality of the black dog.

I have two distinctive memories of Linkin Park. First was back in the days of Burnout Takedown, when you could load music into the game and play it as you raced. I listened to Meteora/Hybrid on repeat for months and months and I look back with such fondness. So much nostalgia.

The second memory is from 2013 when Linkin Park played the Soundwave festival in Brisbane, Australia. There were two giant stages side by side and I was actually getting my spot in the second stage's mosh pit while waiting for Metallica to headline. On the first stage Linkin Park were tearing it up, and they were killing it. Chester and co began running across to the second stage and getting us pumped up, and the energy was palpable. The people around me were hardened metal fans but the consensus was how fucking good LP sounded and what a great live performance it was. Something I'll never forget.

RIP Chester. You left your mark.

avenged sevenfold and linkin park were the first bands i discovered on my own through the internet

they were huge for me during middle school,
even had their songs playing on my virtual boombox on my myspace page

r.i.p. ;___;

Really sucks man, can't stop thinking about it today.

I went through a thing where no music sounded good, and could basically careless for music. Then I heard In The End, and it instantly hit me. Still one of my favorite songs today.

Really sad to hear. I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the radio. RIP. I wasn't much of a fan of their music but he had a profound impact on many people around the world. An excellent talent gone too soon. My thoughts go to his family.

I have VIP tickets to see LP in Tokyo this November... not worried about the money, just wish he is ok now. He has left behind a lot of love.

When I first heard the news earlier, I was hoping that it was all a hoax. Then more sources started coming in confirming it. Really bummed me out. I was early into my discovery of various rock/punk music at the time Hybrid Theory came out. Hadn't heard anything quite like it before, and I loved it. Think I'll always have a soft spot for that one, and Meteora. Still go back to songs from them both from time to time. Really regret never seeing them live now.

Yet another tragic example of how depression can affect just about any kind of person in serious ways, even those you don't expect, and have so much going for them. Thought about it plenty myself, to the point of fully planning out what I'd do. It is a horrid mindset to find yourself in. Were everything feels hopeless and pointless. That you have nothing to offer. That you don't really matter to anyone anyway, so it wouldn't make much of a difference to just let it all go. It really warps the reality of your situation, and your critical thinking skills. If anyone actually reading this finds themselves in the same position, please try to talk it out with someone. Whether it's professionally, or just a friend/family member you trust. Or at the very least, sleep on it first before you decide on anything. As it's a decision you can never take back.

Really hits me hard, Hybrid Theory is a legit fantastic album. I was skeptical, but after listening to it at a listening station, I walked out with the album. Every song was great. (This was before 'Crawling' blew up, lol. The only song on the album I didn't like that much.)

I totally forgot Chester sang for Stone Temple Pilots.

Holy shit, he sounded AMAZING with them. He did the songs justice.

Hard Rock Live, full set:

That's great, he really did nail it.

Just has to remind you, as tragic as his loss is, he brought a lot of joy into peoples' lives, so hopefully that legacy lives on instead of how he went out.

This is some depressing news...I feel like a part of my childhood is gone. Been listening to them all day. Discovering some of their newer music, and I'm liking One More Light and Heavy quite a bit.
