I fell out of touch with Linkin Park few years ago but nevertheless these news hit me hard.

Hybrid Theory and Meteora were 2 of the first CD's i bought with my own money. Listening to their new album, "Nobody can save me" and "One more light" hit me harder than i expected.

It is difficult to explain how a death of someone who i did not know personally can have such a heavy impact on me.

RIP Chester, hope you in a better place now and found your peace.

Everyone loves Meteora and HT, but I think they really succeeded in transcending genres. They may not have been the king of those other genres, but every album has had great, standout tracks. We all lost something special.

I am still in such darkness over this. They were the end to many terrible times in my life, and he and his inspiration shielded me from their effects. They were the beginning to many amazing times in my life, and the strongest I ever was. Such darkness.

way to many people took a quick listen to their stuff after their first two cds and went "this is garbage" without giving it a real chance.

with each major change it always took a few listens to really appreciate the new style but it always eventually clicked for me.

perhaps in the wake of this horrible event more people will give their later stuff a real listen and discover how much great music they made and despite chester being gone the undiscovered music can bring new joy into their lives..

I am still trying to process the fact that I am pretty sure this death hit me harder than the deaths of my grand parents / parents will hit me. well it's not even a debate for my grandparents, I've prepared myself for them to go at any point so while it will be sad it won't have much of any effect on me I know from past experience there. my parents might be a different story but i am not all that close with them.

I'm not gonna pretend I've ever been a fan of Linkin Park, but I do think they got way too much flak from obnoxious tastemakers and I can appreciate some of their songs. Really sad when you learn about Chester's childhood and whatnot, and I can only imagine how haunting his lyrics might be to revisit now that this has happened.

Oh they are...

Having gone through a similar childhood in terms of fucked up parents... it makes everything just sound so much more real.

I spent most of my Thursday listening to their stuff trying to not cry at work. Didn't work.

LP has definitely influenced my childhood and opened up a door to music I wasn't too familiar with. It's funny how their music is associated with teenage angst and plenty of memes spawned because of it, but I feel that's unfair to put the band in that category given the range of music they produced, Chester's vocal ranges, and bands willingness to experiment. I feel bad I haven't been paying attention to their music and missed out on a couple of albums in the past few years. I just hope the band, their friends and families, and all of you show respect, love, and admiration to the man that had faced tragedy and pain in his life, all of us at least deserve that in death.

Hybrid Theory sunk me in, but man, Reanimation blew my mind then and still blows my mind. Threw it on last for the first time in a decade easily but hearing that opening was a blast from the past. I'd later see LP play in Dublin with Coheed and Cambria and QOTSA a few years later.

I must sink in to their later albums. Chester is a legend.

My girlfriend has shed a lot of tears over Chester's death these past few days.

I had been pretty pretentious about Linkin Park in the past, but after talking to her about it, I realized how many people LP had helped. Helped a lot of kids through some really rough childhoods.

Gonna sit down and have a listen to their discography sometime this week. I regret being such a prick about them. Gonna really think twice about my more pretentious opinions.

That's pretty cool of you. I hope you find something you'll like.

I'm still pretty bummed about Chester's death and the future of the band. For most of my adolescence Linkin Park was synonymous with music; their stuff was 80% of all I listened to. It's just strange thinking that the band won't be around anymore (at least not as we knew it).

Plus, there's other aspects that they influenced indirectly. I've had very serious and long-lasting relationships that started with a "hey, you're a Linkin Park fan, too?" and the Hybrid Theory artwork was one of the things that first got me interested in graphic design.

While they may not be my favourite band anymore (that might be Nine Inch Nails, a band I was introduced to by a Linkin Park cover of one of their songs), there's no argument that they had the a huge impact on my life, probably more than any other band/musician/artist.

Even back in the days when I used to get my music the non-legal ways, I still bought the first two albums with my hard earned money.
Hope he finally has found the peace he deserves.

Anger is a completely natural part of mourning, agreed.

I just see it as Welch's really hurt with Chester's death and it's hard to come up with words in times like these. I'm not mad at Welch or anything.

This has been a lot harder than I thought it would be, LP were a big part of my teenage years and while I didn't follow them much personally it's still quite the blow.

I kinda hope people stop giving them shit now about being 'emo' etc. They are actual people with experiences and conditions that can make living life hard and they chose to put that in their music. Hopefully after this people can appreciate the feelings and experiences that they sung about and give them more respect instead of dismissing them outright like a lot do.

Man Ive had this thread opened on my phone since Friday. Every morning and every evening I come in, do a refresh and read new comments. I guess this is the last thread about Chester Bennington I'll ever read and its a way of me holding on to his memory by not closing this tab. Still, comments are getting thinner and I'm sure I'll have to close it soo which will be its own kind of sad.
