LittleBigPlanet 2 Review thread

Wasn't particularly fond of the platforming in the first one and unsure about my interest in the novelty of user-created stuff.

In the first one you could only do various platformings, so my unfondness of the platforming prevented interest from occurring there.

Now it's like "create anything! woooo!", but will things be created that are actually compelling past the novelty value of checking out this crazy thing for a minute? Or will that be what this game does? Is that something I could care for? I don't know.

Supremely on the fence.

I didn't even want to play the demo, I really want to be surprised as much as possible by this one, and I can't wait for it.
well you'll be surprised. i haven't played LBP1 in a while. when i played the demo i was welcomed with that cute sackboy and the visuals really was gorgeous. i felt all warm inside jumping around and using that grappling hook. i can't wait for the game to come out :D

Nice reviews! The demo got me (and my nephew, who is a huge fan) pumped. I can't wait to see what the community creates once everyone gets accustomed to the new tools. I can see myself playing this well into 2013.

God I can't wait for the Move pack (apparently scheduled for March) which will add Move tools to create mode. That's gonna be the best DLC ever and I'm gonna be all over it.

Joystiq review.
^^Damn, kinda surprised. Really looking forward to this. The OST is really good as well.

TheSixthAxis: LittleBigPlanet 2 Review 9/10
Pros:

* Breathtaking user-creation tools
* Compelling, inventive story
* Multiplayer is wonderful
* Integrates nicely with your LBP content

Cons:

* Controls are still a little tricky, Sackboy’s jump still occasionally frustrates
* Won’t entice anyone not a fan of the first
* Create mode still needs plenty of time to get the most out of it

PS3 is sponsoring Movies on Channel 5 in the UK, so last night at every ad break during Austin Powers 2, they were showing LBP2 bookmarking the ads.

just in case for those in the US. don't expect a LBP2 ad here (KB ad) until after the game launch.

is *****.com banned cuz i wanna link their review but neogaf is not letting me.
like u can see it just turns it into *****

Has any review mentioned how long the story mode is. I'm only interested in the story mode so i'm still undecided if i should buy it full price or wait a few months until cheaper.

Ugh...Was in on this day one if this was fixed. Maybe now I'll wait until people have time to make some great levels for it.
Same, except if Sackboy controls the same I'm giving this one a miss. Hated those floaty controls :/

probably the same length. it's 30 story levels. if you just go in to beat without unlocking or acing then it might take you no time at all.

:) I hope big levels plan and hope you all do too and not just boring clones mario levers

The reviews were expected. However, i will wait to purchase until people make some incredible games for it, which will probably be a lot in about 6 months.

Great stuff is going to come out much faster than 6 months .

Nice scores. I can't believe LBP2 is coming out this month. So excited.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I bet making levels with the Move is a lot of fun.

Loads of people have said that there's already great stuff thanks to the beta. People don't need to wait this time around.

It's still early but they're sponsoring Channel 5 movies here in the UK. It's a reasonable spot and I guess it supports the audience they're aiming for.

People watch Channel 5?

People like you make sackboy cry. :'(
Why? The floaty controls made for terrible platforming. It's nice that it's pretty and has a level creator. But if the controls are right, then regardless of what you make. It's never going feel right. The controls will make or break the game to a lot of people.

IGN video review said they beat it in a day without aceing or getting every item.

LBP has some really fantastic user generated content and a creation system that's fun and easy to use. But regardless of how neat the core levels are, I never have much fun with them because I don't enjoy the controls. As a creative tool, it's excellent. As a game, not so much.

I can see its merits, I just can't get past its faults. It's not for me.

I was hoping the jumping mechanics were to be tightened up, because it's certainly a game I want to like.

You can inport LBP1 levels I know alot of the LBP Community will be making levels. Ready to add the new tools and logic too them, and most have been in the beta.

All LBP2 Beta levels are being deleted but I get your meaning as well. If the Beta has only been out 3-4 months its not going to take 6 months to get some really cool levels. Keep in mind, we didn't even have a fraction of the tools that will be unlocked in the LBP2 story mode either so I expect new levels to be pumped out of this game even FASTER.:D

Same here. I think MM made it so you can adjust the physics this time, so I'm interested. Probably won't touch much of the SP though.

The controls fit the game that was made around it. The controls were floaty, but once you got used to them it was fine. With all the new additions such as sackbots and grappling hooks, the game is even less reliant on the traditional floaty controls, so it's even less of an issue.

I loved everything about LBP1, including the controls. Maybe it's because I'm not at all a fan of platformers so I have zero expectations/preconceptions about what controls should be. Or more likely it's just totally a ymmv thing. In any event I already preordered the CE and it's nice to see all the positive early buzz.

Well people can add gravity to sack boy , so the jumping is going to be how you want it .
I expect to see people using this option allot.

I feel your pain. I had to order the CE off Amazon after checking about 5 stores. It really kind of sucks because I had giftcards from Gamestop and could of got the CE for $10 (I only paid $14 for the original game day of release and only $11 for Modnation Racers day of release so, despite the complaints of both games, I was always very happy). :( I guess karma was going to catch up to me eventually...with a $80 price tag.

Oooh, 400% gravity looks much better. Wasn't aware of this feature.

Wait, what? :lol

One of the most useful options, and you can't use it when actually playing maps?

I was actually excited there for a second.

Not only in create mode, also in community levels if the level creator changes it.

It's only unavailable in the story mode.
Hoping this is true.

and better,amirite?:lol

I shouldn't of said that...I believe Ranger X is on my PS3 friend's list. :(

IGN and Greg Miller gave it the same score as Modnation Racers, lol. All respect to MNR, but I doubt these two are at the same level.

Well i don't expect MM levels to have that , i am talking about user levels.
If your only going to play levels that the game come with i expect it to be the same as LBP 1

EDIT
I guess i should have said user levels only :lol

if you change it before playing a level then it would break the creator's level. Giving the creator the option to set the gravity is better than none. then trying to let the end user try to adjust something that the creator doesn't want to happen unless they decide it.

You could do stuff besides platforming, it was just harder. Much easier to make stuff in general now, including platforming.

Naturally.

I actually don't mind the floaty platforming in the first game. It's unique and doesn't have to play like Mario.

However, the biggest problem for me is finding good user created levels to play. There needs to be a cleaner and streamlined way for sorting them.

400% gravity was Only added not long ago to the game
