Log Horizon S2 |OT| been down so long it looks like up to me

LN come out pretty fast though. Its normal novels like Hyouka that never come out.

LN usually do, but not LOG Horizon. Most of LN authors usually put out 2-3 volumnes a year. Meanwhile Mamare Touno seems to release at most one a year. Maybe this year will be different, as the book will be out in march, so there's plenty of time for another one. But one way or another at this rate it will take at least 2-3 years before there's enough material for S3. if there even will be one.
Hopefully the novels get popular enough here that we will see the rest of the story, even if only in translated novel format

It will be awhile if we ever do get a new season. Reason being there is only 1 new arc left of material to adopt from the web novel and that arc is less then half completed right now. Sadly I don't think it will get a 3rd season mostly due to it doing little to boost the LN sales and the anime sales of the BR are not good.

Log Horizon's anime is day time show aired by the NHK though. That kind of arrangement usually isn't just to advertise the source material.

Although I guess an anime original ending wouldn't turn out any good, considering the staff's odd priorities this season...

Log Horizon S2 Ep. 20

Nyanta's fight with PH was sure interesting, but not so much for what their plans are of the nature of living in the world they live in, but how he approached Trudy who is not an adventure but a very powerful Person of the Land. This of course means that unlike his fights with adventurers due to the fact that his winning would be of course he's actually killing someone. There were moment there I wasn't quite sure if he was completely willing to go through with killing her, but Kazuhiko's words at the end seem to suggest that he very much would have killed her to stop her plans. Luckily Kazuhiko saved them both, he prevented her from possibly dying and Nyanta from possibly having to kill someone. Fight scenes were amazing to watch though.

I think Nyanta
would have made the shot. He seemed willing to. That strike in your picture was definitely a strike at her neck (how does that work exactly with HP? lol
I really wonder what Nyanta is like in real life. I was like "Damn, he opened his eyes! Shit is getting real!

Nyanta seems like a big realist. I doubt he would kill just to save himself or other adventurers. But he will kill a Person of the land if it will save the lives of other beings of that spieces.

Oh he was definitely contemplating it due to potentially saving many other People of the Land. It's the only reason he would consider it.

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 21:

So at last this arc comes to an end and may I say thank god for that. I know The Junior League is literally part of Log Horizon but they are just not that interesting to watch. At any rate the Red Evening has come to an end and the heroes stand triumphant but at a great cost as the city has been reduced to rubble in the ensuing battle. Cue the despondent feelings since the scrubs are so much smaller then the situation and the collateral damage isn't helping local feelings. Still the quest is complete and the party is set to split with Roe 2 still on her way to get a cure for that vampirism and the disguised Nureh also leave to head back to her seat of power, but not before giving us a reminder of the turmoil she endures while be under the thumb of Intics. Oh, also Isuzu manages to give the locals a song 43 though I question if this is actually song 43 considering how many other Adventurers are probably making with the music. Also, and more to the point, Isuzu has been touring the countryside giving the people new music already, the laws of this universe should dictate that those came first. I suppose it is a minor point but it is a plot hole none the less. Meanwhile in Akihabara more tension is being applied as we learn that some of the Adventures are still having trouble adjusting to Elder Tale and are starting to get mad or succumbing to ennui. Also Shiore finally speaks about the drums of war that are marching, though I have to admit this current People of The Land Adventurer paradigm has not been well defined since we are being told this. What we have been shown really does not extend past Trudy and her minions at this point and thing about it is in spite of her hatred she is still a vassal of Nureha and Plant Hwyaden. That does bring up a question of how she can keep such a tinderbox under control, curious, most curious. Really, we all know what the real war will or should be. East Vs. West, Akihabara vs Minmai as they have been building up this rivalry since the end of last season and this show better not Deadwood things. Finally, we get some very good reminders that Log Horizon plays the long game as the consequences of not having the magic barrier are finally as a mysterious monster is charming all the ladies in town. I suppose this is the Skylark but I am unsure. Much more important, much more important is in the preview for the next episode The Genius Monsters are coming. Right, so remember all of the subtle clues about the monsters getting smarter that were peppered throughout the season? This is the culmination to that thread, indeed, this is not the first time we have seen Genius Monsters. If you recall Kanami's episode, she encountered two of them and I believe we learned that they have been sealing off the legendary heroes of this world and TWO OF THEM NEARLY CONQUERED THE CHINA REGION! So yea, the fair city of Akihabara is in some pretty deep shit right now.

Yeah no doubt about it
the city is in deep trouble

I mean they aren't even trying to hide it , it's being told

Cross post from Anime OT
Log horizon 2 - 21

This week , someone asked me about the identity of roe 2 and i answered that it would be answered in this episode. i'm sorry but they padded this episode on so much , shiroe only openned the letter as a cliffanger.
I guess they really want to drag the suspense out lol

Crusty disappearance sure is a big blow for the city

@Shard
This is without a doubt a 43th song, for 2 reasons
1- it became a skill ( the anime forgot to explain what it does ) , but it's a support skill ( BIG BUFF on stats )
2- it's being carried by people of the land now, so unless something happens with another adventurer , it really doesn't count.
It's without a doubt a new song.

About the rest of the episode

Rundel haus code , trying to give romantic advice to toyha is priceless .

As for the genuine monsters, i find it funny that it can't charm 3 girls at the same time but can with 2, what a weak limit.

Episode was sloooooow as fuck, but some solid things happened.

We are finally seeing the impact of the magic barrier being down. People are getting increasingly frustrated being trapped in this world, war is brewing - good stuff. Very excited to hear whats in that letter.

Overall, the arc was pretty good. Lots of character development all around. And we got an action scene with actual animation! But Izuzu's arc dragged far too long and became a bit ham fisted.

S2 E21

The episode was quite the slow down from last few to end the arc. I liked it and the junior gang since their seemed to be some actual character growth, even if they weren't quite powerful enough to keep the city unscathed.

Next week is going to be huge, isn't it?

Speak for yourself, I am excited over the future prospects.

Same! Show has awesome world building. Just sucks that the pacing can slow to a crawl and the show can be more like a slideshow than animation at times and we're about to run out of content for them to adapt which all makes me sad.

I just realised one of the Shiroe's in the OP when he's logging in is straight up Roe. Do'h.

also, ep 20, wtf suddenly log horizon sakuga? What even is this

Ya'll can keep waiting for them to drop the mike on Roe 2... I'm gonna get that ish spoiled rotten :D I've gone delirious and I simply can't wait anther week for satisfaction :(

So we've got Despair Syndrome, Plant Hwyden, a 43rd Song, Genius Monsters (that monster was masquerading as a Lander, UI elements and all!) and even more shennanigans.

Storytelling has really become very uneven in my estimation although the overall ideas are still good and interesting. The execution has become really weird though.

I have noticed this as well, it might be because of the character split or it might be that we have reached the point where even the creative staff is hazy on where things are headed.

This arc in particular doesn't seem to feel like it really knows what it's doing. Every defined arc that preceeded it, even the Adventures in China Arc, felt like a complete idea. But this one has like almost four or five differing plot threads that intersect with one another yet didn't really come off to a satisfying conclusion. Now that might be because it's kind of a set-up arc, but the others were largely self-contained even if they progressed the overall story. This one progressed the story but - I think possibly due to the way the 'defence of the town' idea was executed in particular - didn't seem to really fulfil itself.

If I had to compare it to an arc I'd say the defence against the fish-people arc in S1 where Rudy got killed and Shiroe had to magic a skill into play to save him. The main thing about that solution, I think, was that it was instantly clear what was going on and what the thing would do. But having Izuzu just randomly decide 'yes i will play music' and... well, I mean, I assumed it buffed everybody in range, but the message the show decided to go with was that it was about 'hope'. Which is super damn nebulous really. I get that this isn't a clear-cut victory in the way the fish-fight was, but it didn't come off as deliberate so much as confused.

I also think what was actually happening in the battle was simply not clear enough. There was no good sense of positioning or even of location, no idea about really what the wyverns were doing other than flying around and occasionally slam-dunking the knights, no decent actual fights or even moments of fights (Log Horizon isn't known for this, of course, but it was even more insipid than usual) and even when important scenes would occur it was almost like a stage play where the 'players' are off in a seperate world from the actual scene.

I agree with this assessment, this arc in general I would say is the lowest point I have seen Log Horizon since the probably the end of season one and I welcome its end. Hopefully these last few episodes of season 2 give us something to remember not that the scrubs have their time in the sun.

Next week should be :
"damn we're in trouble, what do we do ?"

That's a side effect of too many things happenning at once during an arc . Instead of going to the next event , the author gave us another point of view on the current events and choose to prepare the next big things within it.
it happens.

Also i think that the main idea was to show the lack of power from everyone in the cast ( from nyanta to isuzu or rudy ) to change things in front of them as individuals. Ity should provide them enough motivation to grow as characters.

I'll confirm that isuzu new skill is an EXTREME defense BUFF .
As for the message the show decided to give us , again one might interpret it as hope for the future , i see it as powerlessness .
I mean they did what they could but in the end , they didn't manage to protect everything i think it's a deliberate mimic of S1 in the sense that they all gained experience but couldn't change things on their own. in S1 , they choose to fight regardless and suceeded but the circumstances were just different.

I'll definitly agree with that , the anime viewers didn't get as much information as they could.
But it's also because there was no time to formulate a strategy, for a big part of the attack they were all separated and then it turned into a point defense. It certainly doesn't provide as much insight . Again totally understandable since it was a surprise attack.

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 22:

Well then, after a somewhat tepid arc that I hope you were still paying attention to we just another one of those patented holy shit episodes.
The mystery behind Roe 2 has been explained and it is deeply tied to that of the Genius Monsters as it turns out they are from the mysterious faction of aliens who created this new version of Elder Tale. The Navigators. They are split into the Harvesters that seek pheatons, which are some sort of power source needed by these creatures and I am betting they are the fragments of the memories of adventurers. The other faction is the Observers and Roe 2 just dropped the mother of all supergoals on our heroes. Make contact with the moon, meet the Observer Clan and they will gain aid. Excuse me, I need to go hit SAO and scream into its face about how this is how escaping an MMO world is done. Still, even before they can reach the Moon, they have some deep shit to deal with. Not only are the Genius Monsters infiltrating the city, but they have restless Adventurers who are going insane and a looming war with the People of the Land under the direction of Plant Hwyaden. Okay, there just has to be more to this equation then just a Maglev because I do not care what sort of advances in technology they have made, that alone is not enough to wage war against what is for all intensive purposes the physical gods of this domain. There has to be a trick, a weapon, a spell, a something that is giving the likes of Trudy the supposed edge here or they just have a death wish.

^^ So shiroe finally openned that damn letter ?
About time. Now everyone can stop wondering about roe2 identity and consider the deep shit that need to be done on everyone side.

I guess i need to watch this episode ASAP

S2 E22

Well holy shit. Tons of bombs dropping in this episode about the identity of Roe 2 and why everyone seems to be stuck in this game.
The fact that another group created this world for the purpose of harvesting memories to power their civilization and the fact they reside on the game world's moon is insane. Plus, the use of alts to either harvest or observe adventurers is actually pretty brilliant.

God I really hope we get a 3rd season as there is a ton of stuff going on right now, including an impeding war with the People of the Land, dealing with these rouge geniuses, and helping those who want out get out by way of the moon.
Man I love this show.

Just watched this week episode.

Not surprised as i knew this stuff already and that's why i was praising Log horizon world building since god how long because the hints and the little answers we've got are actually giving a framework to many unanswered questions since the first episode of S1.
This reveal actually change many subtle things but doesn't change the current problem at hand and it's obvious that this was in the works since a long time.

i wonder if that translation was alright ... Many people were using other words because it made more sense ( double meanings ) I wonder if that the official name for those terms.
I means i think a lot of new terms ( and names ) this season where not properly translated.

That make me sad.

DAMN, great world building. That was a huge bomb dropped at the end there.

Also I notice Akatsuki is a lot funnier lately.

All this setting up, the navigators, the upcoming war, Kanami's return...and all of them will at the most start, without any big developments. Waiting for S3 or at least for english versions of later novels will be a tough couple years :D

Lol its setting all this great stuff up...

...that we'll never get to see.

=(

Finally got around to catching up through Season 2 the last several weeks.

Looks like some crazy shit's about to go down...

That said, my current thoughts:
Given the last episode's atomic bomb of info, we see why the Genius enemies know so much about the World now.
Still...it's kinda messed up when you think about it; give people effective immortality and harvest their memories when they die and respawn in a seemingly never-ending cycle.

Too bad it's prolly gonna be a long time before we see what comes of all the stuff going on right now. :(

Lol its setting all this great stuff up...

=(

Well....at the very least the novels are being published by Yen Press in english. They stay on scheudle and rarely drop any series midway. So even in worst case scenario we'll see the continuation of the story in novel format in couple years.

Wow, so I'm gonna need to watch this episode again. They dumped a lot of important things on us.

So this show pretty much turned into The Matrix? If so, I'm all for it.

I'm sorry but why do the matrix comments are popping up now ? I thought that it was obvious that they were inside another reality ( elder tale ).

Is it only because
part of the aliens are in order to harvest the adventurers memories ? Is that it ?

Why is Serara so cute? The only question that really needs to be answered.

RRCieWF.jpg

Also Giraffe Hat is back!

ztM9Jru.png

The plot is getting interesting and a little bit strange.

Apparently the Navigators and Genius' come from the same place with the same objective, it's just that the Genius group is dumb (lol). The navigators don't want to harvest this world's Empathions since the people populating it meet a degree of intelligence worth of being left alone. The Genius group doesn't care and wants to harvest the Empathions.

Looks like the next episode deals with Isaac. I'm optimistic about the episode. I like Isaac a lot, he is the flipped coin of Crusty.

Crusty likes to appear calm and collected but is really a psychopath. Isaac likes to appear hotblooded on the outside but is really a gentle nice guy. Isaac is also very methodical and calculated in an actual battle in stark contrast to Crusty.

Why is Serara so cute? The only question that really needs to be answered.

Also Giraffe Hat is back!

I was actually surprised that they kept all Black Sword background members from season 1 in that scene. I guess we just haven't seen them this season because they haven't been in Akiba.

I've been reading SomethingAwful recently so naturally the first thing I've realised is that Log Horizon doesn't have nearly enough griefers around

Well, hard to give people grief when you are stuck actually in front of them now.

I've always thought the social dynamics from games is by far the most interesting part of MMOs.

Need a show where the MMO stuff is important but not a 'this is the only game around'. That .hack//sigma or whatever thing had it for like 2 episodes trying to juggle IRL but then it was only 3 episodes long so idk...

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 23:

At the very least the run up to the end of this season is a hell of a lot more interesting then it was in Season 1. I just hope we get that Season 3, At any rate, the lunar revelation has already had its profound implications as plans are underway to build a communication device but that is stalled for a couple of reasons. Also, this revelation is already getting people to start thinking about leaving or staying. Though honestly it feels like some are downright jumping ahead a good fifteen chapters as I do feel like pointing out that why lies on the moon is merely the possibility of a hint on how to get home, no the bloody exit itself. At least this what we have been told, there is a lot of uncertainty but what is certain is that the influence of the Adventures is becoming deep by the day. Anyway, the lion's share of focus is on Adventurer liaison Issac. I have probably seen him around but this is really the first time he has been in the spotlight and he has the task of training the locals and the heir to the Lander kingdom of Eastal and I have to admit this one episode was a hundered times more interesting then any one of the episode featuring the Log Horizon Junior Leauger. Anyway, we learn the state of affairs of Lander politics and indeed we finally get the reason why Westlande has cast their lot in with Minmai and an assassination attempt is thwarted. Ri Gan finally shows up to give us news on the transport portals, seems they are shut down because of administrator becon on the moon and we are handed a plot point right out of Final Fantasy 8. Though before we can Mega Man Legends 2 this bitch we finally, finally have the tides of war upon us. The battle for Akihabara starts next week.

Log Horizon Episode 23
That was a lot of fun.
Seems like the moon really is critical to the plot moving forward, especially with the transport gates now involved. The assassination attempt was fun, as was the cliffhanger

Excited to see where they go in the final episode. Boy, i am going to miss this show.

Good episode. I dont want anyone to leave. also sad for Tohya. He has so much more freedom and such here instead of back to his life that seemed pretty confining for him in that brief glimpse. But if hes happy then I guess I could see it. But still, I was kind of wanting them to permanently stay here.
