So I'm watching men's beach volleyball, and I really want to know what's up with the random Spanish-sounding trumpet that goes off every 20 seconds.

Something to gee up the crowds. Bit of a tradition at some European sporting events, Roland Garros comes to mind.

Holy Crap German TV is disgusting. They just showed an interview with the 15 year old breastroke winner Ruta Meilutyte and the last question was something like "Some people are doubting how a young swimmer like you can suddenly perform this good..." (strongly implying doping...)

How can you ask a 15 year old gold medal winner something like this? At least she handled the question well and just said "everything is possible".

So, how do the pools work in volleyball ?
How many teams advance to the next stage ?

Competition format
At London 2012, both the men’s and women’s Volleyball competitions begin with a preliminary phase: the 12 teams in each event are divided into two pools of six, and each team plays every other team in their pool. The eight best teams (the top four from each pool) from this phase qualifies for the knockout phase, with the winners of the semi-finals eventually going head to head for the gold.

All matches are the best of five sets, with the first four sets going to 25 points. The fifth set goes to 15 points, and all sets must be won with at least a two-point advantage.

Thanks man.

I''m just glad Brazil games will be live in the us. Lol for the next winter games though.

I'm still betting on a delay. These gymnastic finals are being held starting at 4:30 in the afternoon. You think NBC won't delay them to prime time TV?

The west coast will definitely be delayed, even though they're just two hours behind Rio.

Eurasia has hosted the last 3 olympics. They should host every other olympics, not every olympics

I don't think that's a valid way of seeing things. There was one edition in Asia/Oceania (Sydney), then one in Europe (Athens), then another in Asia (Beijing), then finally this one in Europe (London). They could've fit an edition in the Americas between those... But "Eurasia" isn't really a thing in this subject - specially considering time zone differences.

sigh...probably..

German TV is just horrible altogether when it comes to sport events.

Edit:
Also that Terrence Hill avatar always pust a smile on my face.

Yep, it's really bad. Everytime a non-german wins or does something unexpected it has to be doping. I cant take this shit anymore, thank god for BBC.

And yeah Terrence Hill is awesome :)

Don't worry GB's women's basketball team, you did your best and I bet you're glad to be there. Right?!

EDIT: I'm being a bit hard of them to be honest. They did a genuinely good job.

to be fair I'll give them credit, they aren't like the swimmers, these basketball players ARE underfunded and under-appreciated. Canada should have stormed this.

The schedule is already set for RIO???

But still, everything will be streamed which means its easier to catch more stuff since the events right now stop for those in the US right when people get home.

Indoor volleyball is so fun to watch. Much more exciting than beach volleyball, I think.

Women volleyball is exciting because there are a lot of incredible rallies. Men's spikes are much stronger and faster so during their matches long rallies are less frequent, but when it happens it's even more amazing.
