I wouldn't worry about Volleyball and stuff like that, we had precisely 0 chance and only qualified for half of these events because we're the host nation.

Does the pool really have to be that deep for the swimming events?

the pools for swimming are 2 - 3M deep and usually can be adjusted. the depth is to minimise wave effects. waves are bigger in shallow water, so 3M pools have smaller waves and are "faster" than shallow pools.

I tell you guys what, in terms of venue, atmosphere, setting and competition the Beach Volleyball has been the best of the games so far IMO.

I'm not sure about the Olympic soccer team, but most of the professional national team is made up of ethnic Koreans living in Japan.

Their Olympic athletes get plenty of food and support, even if they live in NK, I'm sure. Doing well at competitions like this has been an important propaganda coup for countries like that since the Cold War.

Unfortunately, the other nations either have the money to train to be the best at most sports or have realised their skills lie in specific sports, and are consequently turning the host nation out.
