What were they actually playing for? If they lost their first game, are we working our way to bronze through a losers bracket?

EDIT: Nevermind, pool stages.

Great result. Really hope they'll actually get some funding now - it seems crazy that they haven't received any, especially when I keep seeing all those "Your athletes funded by you" lottery advertisements.

Maybe they could have a little bit of the tennis budget? They don't seem to be using it.

Well, a good match. Congrats GB. And now it's over for today, i'll have to wait for the rerun to watch my paisanos in the synch diving.

Congrats to the Team GB women, great match. :)

Hopefully they can move on, secure some funding and compete on the world stage outside of the Olympics going forward.

Bloody ticket website is a joke.

it accepted my details for some athletics tickets. Said I reserved them asking for card details. Put my card details within the time limit, pressed accept and it went back to the log in screen.

the NBC app says archery and field hockey are upcoming. Are they, or are we talking in 7-8 hours?
Day 4 Schedule has Field Hockey at 8:20 (along with Badminton and Basketball), and Archery Eliminations at 8:55, so I'm edging towards "7-8 hours".

I tried to buy Canoe Slalom tickets the other day after realising how much I enjoyed watching it - by the time I'd gotten it to log me in and accept my details the few they'd had available in my price range were gone. And shortly after that, so were the ones out of my price range ;)
That said, as much as I'd have enjoyed being there, I'll probably have a better view on the TV anyway.

gotta admit... i'm finding the Olympics much more enjoyable overall than the Euros and i'm football mad

I'm a football fan, but I can have football pretty much everyday with all the leagues and cups. The Olympics are once every 4 years, it's just more unique and exciting. And the Olympics' atmosphere is a nice break from all the football bullshit.

yeah track and field is the least interesting part of the olympics to me, outside of horse stuff and sailing. oh and weightlifting because i keep feeling they're going to break something.

100m final zzzzzzzz

cycling road race, archery and volleyball have brought the goods.

Wow, they've released a lot of tickets. There were only a few pages earlier, now there's tons.

Shame everything I'd like to see only has ~£150 tickets. D:

espn really does the total > gold thing. hahaha
http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2012/medals

I think that golds should be tiebreaker. I never understood why a handful of people think that only Gold matters.

(I actually do not really care either way. I don't see it as a big deal)

For individual Olympics people seem to focus on gold. When people talk macros they almost always talk about how many TOTAL medals a country has won.

(I actually do not really care either way. I don't see it as a big deal)

neither do i, i just think it's really funny that the american media switched halfway through bejing to still be on top after getting destroyed by the chinese. this year they didn't even bother starting it the official way lol.

So, browsing the nbcolympics.com site I have to wonder, during the first days they didn't have any 2012 medal table on the front page, and now they have one, but only showing US medals? Well at least they added the medal winners of the day, but still, I bet once US goes first in overall medals they will put a ranking out.

As it should be imo.

Though I agree that golds should be tiebreaker. I never understood why a handful of people think that only Gold matters.

Gold isn't all that matters but these athletes aren't dedicating their lives to the pursuit of a runner-up medal. Golds are worth at least 5x as much as bronzes IMO.

Eh. The premier athletes maybe. For some, who never expected to make it in the first place, a bronze is a huge deal and a massive accomplishment.

I feel the most sorry for 4th place finishers. Obviously amazing athletes that will never be remembered :(

That's not to take away from silver/bronze medalists. It's a HUGE accomplishment either way and they should be proud of themselves. But there's no competitor that gets 2nd and isn't kicking themselves for not having just that little bit more in the tank to get the win.

So are people really serious about accusing the 15 year old girl from China of cheating because she was extremely fast?

she wasn't just extremely fast, she was at times faster than a full grown man who won the gold in a similar event. tell me this isn't a bit suspicious at least.
