Looks like Tencent just acquired Leyou

Its to bring IPs like Warframe to mobile.

No.

It may ALSO be for that, I do not exclude it.

Yet, they are heavily moving towards PC and console development.

In a few years I bet they'll be a major publisher on non-mobile platforms, even for not-strictly online games.

Announcements like Syn clearly point to this.

This also seems like will be ported to mobile in future.

I think Sony was in it mainly for the MP IP's and MP talent.......If they dont get this, they will have to buy other studios anyway. MY advise is for Sony to revitalize Warhawk, Mag and Socom or make Syphon Filter the new Rainbow Six alternative......

This is how the Chinese operate, they buy their way in and then when established they make the demands and changes. Manufactiuring, electronics and tech and movies have all followed the same path. Gaming will be no different.
You are absolutely correct. I am so tired of this.

They were already the world's largest video game company prior to this acquisition. Looks like another good pickup for them.

They'll not make a console but I definitely see them launching a game sub service like PS NOW at some point.

Surely they're the favourites to buying WB? At this rate it won't be long before the courts rule they can't buy more as they'll have a monopoly.

Not bad, Tencent is certainly better than EA, Activision these days, probably slightly better than sony too consider the character design direction their games are taking. Western gaming corps are introducing so many weird rules and regulations that are even more damaging and restrictive to game development.

I mean, I am disappointed that Tencent keeps getting bigger and bigger but much hyperbole?

So far Tencent's policy has been to give its western devs a lot of autonomy. Chances are for these studios business will continue as usual.
You might want to research Tencent's history 👀

Are you taking about Chinese companies or Google/Amazon/Microsoft using a position of monopoly and a never ending supply of money to embrace, extend, and extinguish another market once conquered?
I don't care personally who buys their way into the gaming industry but what I do care about is said company harming the industry. Say what you want about MS but they have done a lot of great things for the industry by way of innovation. What has CCP backed Tacent done exactly? China can't even get basic human rights down with its own people but yet they keep sending out companies that the back to try to gobble up other entities like they are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

After I seen them "gift" a building to the African Union in Ethiopia and then stole their data for 5 years I don't put anything past CCP and anyone they back.

Replying to him will just derail the thread.

I remember during Diablo Immortal scandal, a Chinese guy in Reddit said Chinese gamers didnt complain about Diablo Immortal because this was pretty normal in China. Chinese game companies treat their users like pigs they can farm(thats literally what he said). Some Chinese online games(like Moonlight Blade) have MTX that can make EA look like saint.

Exactly, they are very friendly at first, once they get into the estabilishment seat is where things start to go downhill:

-Blizzard banning players over Free HK chants, even firing it's personnel on the scene

-Movie Studios removing Taiwan mentions on the new Top Gun, Dreamworks working with a Chinese studio in a CG movie where the disputed SEA islands belongs to china in a map.

Trump banned just Huawei and got a impeachment, virus and rioting in his heels.

imagine what happens if he pisses off quarentined LOL kids
You think any of that is connected? LOL
As for tencent buying another studio is just another studio I avoid.

Chinese government getting ready to take over the gaming market like:

I previously saw a list of studios and games included and the only one I had any interest in was Gears Tactics, which Xbox could always have another one of their studios make a sequel. Therefore I would have much preferred Sony over Ten Cent acquiring Leyou.

They made Gears Tactics even when owned by Leyou. So we may still get Tactics 2.

I meant if Sony bought it, one of Xbox's studios would have to make the sequel. I'm pretty sure neither Sony nor Xbox would be down with a Sony 1st party making an MS exclusive and I'd be fine with that if it meant Sony got Leyou instead of Ten Cent

I dont think Coalition will do Tactics 2, instead they will start hunting for another studio like they are doing for KI.

For those of you who don't want to bother checking out Leyou's game library, their focus is basically this:

- Warframe
- A slew of Chinese market games and F2P model games
- Splash Damage studio who does good work mainly supporting a main studio doing the rest of the game. For example, SD seems to focus on helping a game developing the MP modes, while the other studio does SP

So whether it's Sony or Tencent, Leyou is a MP focused company who gets most of their revenue from F2P kinds of models, with exception of SD.

Heh, 90+ posts later...

Thanks for the breakdown! Warframe is the big game name here, but Leyou has a couple major subsidiaries that might be worth catching up with if they don't already ring a bell.

I expect to see this as a advert for their next mobile game.

Seems this is only fine if it's an american corporation....
Imo if we go there USA needs to be ban too where i live.
I don't need one cultural colonialism over an other.
The funny thing being China learnt the rules and is now only beating USA at their own game

good example of what happen when you are so much into warring that you totally miss the point and worries expressed here and create warring narrative from a situation

thats fine and all but there is a big difference. One place censors the hell out of things and the other doesn't. I still have nightmares from that pubg china video I saw months ago.

That's netease and not tencent, ten cent has one of the best track record on maintaining game developer's freedom with a few rules to avoid Chinese censorship.
