the destruction of the two trees and the shadow of morgoth in the background. must be one of the case by case special exceptions they made. fucking awesome. cant wait to see what other exceptions they made. if they let them show morgoth, even a shadow of him, thats pretty huge and i imagine we might some other first age stuff that we arent expecting

This is Sauron, right? Hmmmm, gonna be a tall order, I sure hope this guy has a deep background in acting to pull off this character.
Sauron when he was going by Annatar. Who tried to get into Lindon. but Gil-Galad didn’t like the look of him and refused him entrance.

Seems young for the role, unless he is replaced later on. Unless he just has some crazy creepy energy, we'll see.

i'd say sinister, even a little sick looking. which is perfect for annatar

im curious how his acting will be though. as far as i remember, annatar was very manipulative, weaseling his his way into positions of influence. itll be interesting to see how the actor handles it

I think you make the sinister person very attractive And friendly. That way the deception isn’t realised because the character is well liked and trusted. Helpful and trustworthy but ultimately the means of their destruction.

Too young to play an ageless character?
Too young as an actor to carry the role. It's not some sort of edgelord snark to suggest that older, more experienced actors can carry a gravitas that younger actors just can't pull off, good grief.

Maybe this guy is a prodigy, the show certainly has the money to conduct a global search and this guy was THE BEST OPTION out of EVERY MAN ON THE PLANET. But to be SAURON, or at least an aspect of him, he needs to be AWESOME and this cat looks to be in his early 20's, not an age I normally associate with phenominal acting prowess.

It has been a loooong time since I have dug into LoTR lore, but IIRC wasn't Sauran more like a really affable dude that everyone liked? Like you are not going to take and use some magical ring from some dude who is 10/10 on the sus scale.

i believe there were always those who were suspect about him. he was like grima worm tongue in a way. thats why i think this character is going to be so interesting in this series.

whether he looks young or weak really doesnt matter, its how the actor sells it. and that remains to be seen. weve only seen a couple shots of him and hardly a sentence of dialogue

I have been watching the extended cut of The Hobbit trilogy. The first two movies seem significantly better than I remember when watching this cut. The last movie is still marvel shlock for the most of it.

I would suggest against reading/watching Tolkien anything before this releases as you will only end up having a fantastic showcase of why this new adaptation will be utterly dreadful.

The problem is he looks evil, and any person with half a brain should be able to tell he's evil. He shouldn't look evil to people.

However, this might just be his true form and he appears different when around people, which would be fine.

Don't like how they made him look though, it's the age old pale dude with eyeliner look. Cause those guys always have to be evil. Spoken as an age old dude with eyeliner slightly tired of always being the cheap go to 🤭

So yeah, he looks like a cartoon character. Orcs look cool though.

I also watched it recently, and it's so odd how I feel like all of the characters needed more screen time. I wish Bilbo was more of the main character, but I also wish they spent more time on some of the dwarfs, cause frankly, I can't even remember half of them. I also feel the leader Dwarf needed more screentime. It's weird, considering how long these movies are. They really really really needed to drop that elf/dwarf love story though, jesus.

In the LOTR Trilogy, however, I feel I got to know every character well, even the ones who died in the first movie. They really used every scene to its fullest, while The Hobbit had too many silly scenes and filler scenes.

Exactly, they don't call him the Lord of Gifts for nothing.

Long he sought to persuade the Elves to his service, for he knew that the Firstborn had the greater power; and he went far and wide among them, and his hue was still that of one both fair and wise. Only to Lindon he did not come, for Gil-galad and Elrond doubted him and his fair-seeming, and though they knew not who in truth he was they would not admit him to that land. But elsewhere the Elves received him gladly, and few among them hearkened to the messengers from Lindon bidding them beware; for Sauron took to himself the name of Annatar, the Lord of Gifts, and they had at first much profit from his friendship.

Amazon screwed it up again with edgy Annatar. Dude looks like an outright wanker.

Still shaking my head that they chose to do this period of ME’s history, and not Morgoth. So, instead of the first Dark Lord, we’ve apparently got Sauron the stroppy teenager. I’m holding judgement until I’ve seen some of it, but my confidence levels are not high.

the music sounds great. must have been cool to see the orchestra live like that. im hoping they try and weave some of the lotr trilogy themes into this series.

"Bear McCreary with orchestra performs Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Theme for the San Diego Comic-Con Hall H crowd!"

ngl tho, i have always hated viloin players over exaggerating their movements when playing like that girl does. lol, just play the song we dont need the flashyness.

Bear mcreary is doing this? Oh, well the music should be good then.

Do they even have the rights to the lotr music though? I think I recognized a tiny bit in thr previous trailer.

First impressions are everything. I think you should “tf out of here” with your mindless defense and dismissive attitude.
We have no idea how Annatar looks like when interacting with other people and trying to manipulate them. Of course he's going to look evil when no one is nearby for him to pretend to be a good guy. That's basic visual storytelling.

Some of you are the ones showing a dismissive and mindless attitude. You're taking frames out of context and misjudging them because you've already decided you're going to hate this.

When we get to see him in his manipulative act, we'll see if the actor does a good job or not.

You're obviously right, but you've gotta admit Amazon is inviting this kind of negativity from people who know the lore of this is how they first show him.

I'd be surprised and disappointed if there's no "slicker" version to him, personally.

I agree that early impressions were disappointing (expecially for the first teaser), but I found their last two trailers to be great. The production values, music, and plenty of high fantasy moments may make for a very enjoyable show, even if the storytelling is still a big question mark.
