WHY WERE THEY THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT'S COMPLETELY AUTONOMOUS, AND EVEN FUNCTIONS IF COMPLETELY FLOODED. WHY. WHY WHY WHY. BEN/JACOB/MIB IS A COMPLETE IDIOT.

I seriously like how they just ask the question in the episode and respond with "iunno let's blow shit up and kill charlie". And then pussy ass Mikail needs fucking scuba gear when both Des and Cokehead McGee could swim in just fine.

Penny and Juliet. Older blonde women, yum.
*highfive*

All I can say to the answers crowd is that you did enjoy the finale, you just don't know it yet. Several pages back someone posed the question, what could have made you dislike the finale assuming you didn't already? For me it would have been if the writers had wasted time attempting to define what didn't need defining or took away from completing these characters' journey in lieu of the impossible task of finding some all encompassing concrete resolution to the island mythology which each fan had built up differently in their mind, anyway. Answering certain questions would've have only divided the community further. But that's one of the genius things about LOST. At any point throughout the the series ten different people could hold ten different theories about a particular mystery yet the heart of the narrative never broke. That's because the show was never about the mythology rather the people embedded in it. Like all LOST fans the mythology part of the draw, sure. But it's always been about these characters first. Would I have really given a fuck about the mysterious signal playing on a loop for 16 years had it not held horrible ramifications for the characters I didn't give a fuck about?

I'm satisfied by the amount of answers we were given over the years. The VAST majority of things were wrapped up. As I think about the story as a whole I'm having a hard time thinking of any lingering mystery which stymies my understanding of it. There's a difference between things we needed to see and things that would have simply been cool to see. Personally I would have loved more insight into the Dharma Initiative. But honestly, what would have seeing Radsinsky install the swan computer or Ben micromanaging The Purge really have added to the story besides another layer of exposition--which is cool, but not necessarily important. I think in some instances some people are letting their own personal curiosity about things they may or may have not put on too much of a pedestal fog their view of was ultimately most important to the series.

Amen. Elizabeth Mitchell is yum.

I like fatter Penny though. Towards the end of the show I wasn't as big of a fan.

Oh well that was... special.

Can't find what to say, guess I'll type whatever I can come up with tomorrow. I'm going to bed.

Here they are replacing Lost with breaking bad which from what I've seen here seems a worthy choice. I'm moving on onto that, maybe fringe, and well... so much shit on TV, so movies and books.

It's been a great.... wait no... the greatest ride of my life. Thank you guys for being there and I was always glad to share the joy and experience of Lost with you even if it was only for one season.

Going to bed now. I will either not be able to sleep or dream with lost tonight.

Sorry guys, but I am firmly on the Ilana defense force.

A short reflection on my experiences with this show.

I remember venting a good amount over the flashbacks in season one, two, and three. I could not for the life of me figure out why it was so important to spend half of each episode revealing stuff that in the grand scheme of things did nothing to help reveal the answers to the mysteries of the island, which we all know was the main focus of the show. The flash forwards in season four could have been rearranged into their own thing instead of being jerry-rigged to the plot as some sort of new form of flashing. Season five had time travel and by the time I was neck deep in to six I realized I didn't care about the answers anymore. I cared about the adventure and the moment-to-moment choices of each character. People would come to me asking for my theories and offering theirs. I happily turned them away. I was just along for the ride. In a very personal, beautiful way the finale justified my gradual shift in opinion and really cemented in me the brilliance of a once frustrating show.

Are there any haters to require your defensive status?

This is the real queen of Lost though.

Whenever Ilana being hot is brought up around Costanza, he calls her "disgusting", "sickening", or something else hyperbolic.

too bad none of Lost-gaf has admin powers. I'd bless all of you with that magic tag touch.

Y'know, I'm still on Team MiB. I think it's a real shame he didn't get to see the world and just ended up dying in the only place he's known. Jacob is a big asshole that's for sure.

It was the quantity of answers, but the quality.

But that's not what people have been arguing. It's been about the writers not wrapping up the mythology. Whatever the fuck such a vague and blanket statement even that means. Most people have been bitching that the 11th hour of the show didn't go out of their way to answering shit like "Whats the island..definitively" "How did Tawret really get built" etc..

The biggest thing I appreciate about the finale is that absolutely none of that shit got brought up and one can easily pretend MiB/Jacob never existed.

Also Ilana is plainer than dirt.

Spike Spiegel is another hater. Whenever someone talks about how hot Ilana or Claire are he's always like "she's not even a cartoon, how can anyone jack off to her?"

ALso i def. agree he really got shafted hardcore. Alls he wanted to do was leave and see the world, but mommy was all bitchy. Also i must say that they should have let us see what happened if he left the island as the smoke monster to let us get a since of what happens.

I don't know.. throughout the season there's definitely been a chorus of "dude wait, there's still 10 episodes".. "6 episodes"... "5 episodes"... "the finale, it's 2 and half hours!" People waited, and they got a clip show in return, not to mention the filler in the temple, dharmaville, and the getting back to the island stuff from season 5.

It was definitely a concentrated effort to not reveal many of the mysteries of the island, which is whatever, however, there has been nearly three seasons of stilted character development and regression in place of those "answers". Meanwhile, they choose to create new "questions" so that they can selectively answer.. hence an entire season of LA X.

LA X is a major part of the story of this season. Of course it takes merits being answered more than some other stuff.

Finding how the statue was built (durr by people), etc has no relevance to the story being told.

I can forgive MiB for all the people he killed, but just can't overlook that he slapped poor Claire.

This is also common, attributing random projections on any objection. I haven't even seen that many people mention anything about the statue, besides complaining about how lame it was that it was broken by a wooden boat....

it does for people watching the show for the mythology and mysteries. I dont mind the characters but the show has always been 50-50 to me and they shafted anybody that wanted to know the mythology more. They could have taken a slice of like 10 minutes of an episode and told us the stuff. A perfect time would have been when Jacob was talking to them in the forest. Would it have been contrived? yes to a point but it still would have been better then not answering a lot of it.

It was shattered by a Tsunami

...which is exactly the theory that the show gave back in season 1 :D

Well, its 95% Characters and 5% mythology to me, so to each his own. Im glad the finale was focused on what mattered to me :)

Those are their objections, not mine. I don't really care all that much about plot holes or unanswered questions about minor things. I guess what bothers me the most is that the entire story is based on the fact that Jacob was an incompetent idiot who wasn't smart enough to figure out a simpler way to achieve what needed to be done. He should have thanked his brother for killing psycho mom and did whatever he could to help his brother get off the island.

They had plenty of time to develop the mythology, the pacing was just fucked up this season, barely anything happened throughout this whole season, with the exception of a few episodes and the finale.

The more I think back now. The more hate fucking Dogen, useless time consuming sonofabtich.

I can't say anything but I disagree. Stilted character development? Some of the fundamental and more important changes in these characters took place during seasons the last three seasons. Such a statement has no validity what so ever.

And let's be real here. Most things that people are still searching for answers for have either been explained/revealed outright or given more than enough puzzle pieces to put together. Plenty such folk have posted in this thread. My "you just don't know it yet" dig, aside from being a Locke/Jack joke was an expression of the possibility that things will become clearer when people re-watch the series. LOST is such a dense story that often answers question to a series of clues and mini reveals that it's easy to miss plenty of the answers. I've always had a good handle on things and even I often gain new insight randomly watching episodes.

And I've said it before but there's an element of never being satisfied when it comes to some people and LOST. When they are taking the time to flesh out the characters people scream of filler. When they give more action and mythology people hearken back to the days of season 1 "when it was all about the characters". When they do both someone inevitably claims it's not focused enough. Some people just like to complain. But I suppose that's with anything.

I'm about to go to bed but let's parse this shit out.

What mysteries that the writers "ignored", what elements of the mythology did they fail to wrap up? Some of the people making these claims aren't backing themselves up.

answers crowd doesn't care about the FINALE not being full of answers, this whole hit and miss season should've had that. No one wanted a 2.5hr powerpoint presentation by Jacob, we just wanted a beginning to end competent season... not stupid temple dogen what kate did recon across the sea or any of the lameness that was in season 6.

Thats fine but dont be angry about people who have a problem when there is a good reason to have one since they really said Fuck the mythology, they could have wrapped it all up but chose not to. Which is what really makes me angry. Its cool to have some loose ends but not as many as Lost has. I love the show always will but still think they should have divulged the mythology to us. Not all of it but most of it.

http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Mysterious <--- They did a pretty good job, imo.

Substitue, Lighthouse and Sundown were all in the temple arc and were all great episodes.

The best episodes of the season easily rank up there with the best episodes of the entire series.

Every season has its ups and downs, this was no different. As it is, Seeason 6 is a better Season than 5 , 3 or 2 imo.

Hmm, let's spend half of our shows focusing on who these people were before the Island and how they're connected to each other, and then finish it all with a 3 hour lecture on what the island is instead of letting you infer that with the evidence we've presented to you over 6 years. Sounds like a great idea.

Problem is I don't think there is really any MAJOR loose end. Everything Major is either a) Answered, b) can be pieced together, c) left to interpretation as it should be.

For me, pretty much everything that is a loose end is either minor or inconsequential.

I mean, if you think making the nature of the Island ambiguous is a Loose End, whatever, but giving a 100% definite answer to what the Island is would be mistake.
