I thought he was some kind of twisted ex-military or ex-secret government agent type of guy. I thought he was who Sayid turned out to be.

My initial impression dovetailed perfectly into "Walkabout". In that episode i went from thinking he was a sleeper who was only working in the office as a cover. Then thought "Oh Shit, Randy is going to regret listening in on the colonels phone call when he gets killed in a few minutes. By the end of the episode my opinion of him had gone from feeling he was someone the other survivors should fear to someone they should pity. That's all on top of the shock that you never realize through the whole episode that he couldn't walk and had never even stood up during the whole flashback.

I did like the first 2 episodes but Walkabout was the episode that made me a fan.
