I really wish they would have touched on the true origins of the island. It sucks we'll never really know what was so damn special about that place.

The white rock is good, light, and life.

The black rock is evil, darkness, and death.

The island is the scale.

Do you believe there was something special about the place or was it just an island?

some food for thought

- Though you don't see the Temple, Statue, etc, there is nothing at all that says that they aren't there. Remember ATS takes place in one small area of the Island, pretty much where the Losties crashed...and there were no ruins or anything there

- MIB and Jacob were playing Senet an ancient Egyptian game more than 3000 years older than them

- The Egyptians carved into caves and tunnels all over the Island. Whoever finished the Wheel (MIB himself probably) must have done it in those caves.

The wall that MIB was going to use for the wheel in ATS was already there, so there are most likely a few more caves with such walls with the Light behind them.
All very very cool. Thanks man.

Doubtful. MIB and Jacob came to the island in 23 AD, long after Egyptians were making monuments like the statue.

Of course its possible that the island went back in time after Jacob and MiB became what they were.
Were Egyptians not allowed to build things after BC era? Why couldn't a group of Egyptians or other influenced by them build the statue? The statue at the beach appeared to be designed for Jacob. Maybe Jacob built the thing himself.

The markings on the stone and in the cave could have been from an entirely different civilization or from a previous protector who was influenced by other civilizations just like Jacob was influenced by other civilizations.

My own opinion is that the Temple was built after Jacob and Smokey arrived meaning that the Egyptian qualities came after the Egyptian Empire was gone.

Let's not forget that Jacob used a variety of cultures in his building from the cave to the lighthouse to the cabin, so finding an actual historical timeline for the constructs is probably delving too deep into it imo.

And even if the Cork does end up being Sumerian (waiting for high res caps, cant tell shit from the ones ive seen), that still allows for the Egyptians to have been there before Jacob imo.

I'd love for the Lost encyclopedia to have a time line for this stuff for the island.

But really, Jacob and Smokey are relatively late comers to the Island themselves.

Man, LOST is just incredible!! The writers should win an oscar for the amazing ideas presented in this groundbreaking show. I don't want them to tell us how we should interpret the mysterious events that occurred.

I was just discussing some aspects of the themes with my family and we all presented our own theories/ideas and interpretation of the events and the significance of some of the scenes and themes. Some of the theories were a bit farfetched, but other theories were good.

I will miss this show (I think it is unfair to just call it a show though), but I am sure that we will be talking about it for years to come.

I really hope it has a timeline too.

(And talk about a parole violation.)

I forgot about that, she's definitely gonna do some hard time for that.
Plus, she won't have Jack around to testify that she's a nice lady and shouldn't do time for murder. : (

At least Claire will be there to take care of Aaron, hopefully she won't put him in the oven or something.

My only issue with the Egyptians being before Jake/MIB is that you could see the statue from the well (as shown in season 5), but that could just be a small plot hole.

I'm surprised people want to know what the origins of the Island are. Unless they were expecting it to be an ancient alien spaceship, it is just an Island. It probably came into existence when the Earth did. I suspect life/humanity actually started from the Island, or at least humans were there since pretty much the dawn of mankind.

She's only been gone a few days hasn't she? Maybe her parole office hasn't checked on her.

Aw, SHIT! Man, when I watch Eggtown again now I might actually cry.

Kate going to jail would be a good thing, cos it makes it more believable she'd spend her life missing Jack. Rather than shagging the first guy she sees.

Jail may keep her from snagging the first guy she sees, but she'd still get lonely in a womens penitentiary.

Fanfiction time.

True, but a commercial plane did crash and she was on the manifest or whatever so I guess she'll just have to hope that Mr. Parole Officer doesn't follow the news.

I think her parole officer or whomever would have some sympathy seeing how her plane crashed... again.

Its not the same well :)

They were both special. Desmond being Desmond and Jack being the Protector of the Island.

By the time Jack was in the Heart of the Island or whatever it was called, he was no longer the protector. He gave that power to Hurley before going inside.

Korey said:
Is it a scale or a cork?

Both. :D

Acting as a cork is what achieves that aforementioned balance.

MIMIC said:
Why didn't Desmond or Jack turn into a smoke monster like the other guy did?

Desmond is resistant to huge doses of EM, so it didn't affect him (though it did seem to hurt).

MIB messed with the balance when he was thrown in. He came out having taken some of the light in the form of Smokey

Jack restored balance when he rebooted the Island

Or maybe "good" people aren't affected...and evil/shitty people turn into smoke shit?

I think that Jacob basically threw a dead, drowning body into the cave--maybe dying or anger or pain in his heart manifested itself.

Until the reboot.

No way.

HurleyBen comedy spinoff. It's a perfect idea actually.

Maybe it was because he was tossed in in malice.. or he had just murdered his mother.

Indeed. That may play an important part, actually. What if you save someones life and jump in.

White smoke! The best smoke. Get high just standing near him.

MIB seemed like a cool bro to me. His mother killed a shitload of people, it's not like she didn't deserve death. Obviously when he went all smokey things changed, but I see the guy as a bit of a tragic figure. You can't blame the dude for becoming bitter.

And thus we have the problem he was arguing for...that people are naturally corruptible.
