LTTP: Dark Souls (PS3)

I rescued her after the kill. I'm pretty sure I did the same thing on ps3. But it seems that others have recommended the same thing so I'll try that, thanks :)

Many achievements seem to be broken so not much to do there I guess.

Theres a cave where the hydra is? I searched that entire area and even hit the walls in the farthest back area and didnt find anything.

A Golden Golem will appear in a cave behind the Hydra after you've reset the game (probably the back area you've mentioned). If you defeat him, Dusk will appear on the spot.

Cave is kind of a misnomer but yeah there's a big off shoot to the left of the Hydra (slightly to the left behind it).

Starting this game soon, outside of the Dark Souls Wiki, is there anywhere else you guys would suggest that would help a total noob such as myself?

I'm unable to play Dark Souls at the moment, but is it possible to
warp to and back from the Duke's Archives?

Honestly? Youtube. When I get frustrated enough on a fight I know that has patterns but can't figure out, I just hit up youtube. Shameless to some but a blessing to others.

I fucking hate The Duke's Archives so much.

I think it's the constant projectiles (be them from those damn archers or the dancing mages), because as a whole none of the primary enemies are very difficult.
I'm constantly fighting for my life in that place. Ugh.

Got cocky after beating Ornstein & Smough in Anor Londo, went back to take on the Four Kings, and got wrecked. First time I fought them must have been beginner's luck (killed two, almost the third, all on my own), because I couldn't even kill one before getting wiped out.
Went again, taking Beatrice with me... and she didn't do shit! Seriously, she was just standing around, taking a shot once every few minutes. I died again half-way through King #2.
Third time I take lighter armor so I can flip/move around a bit more. Beatrice does a little more, but not much. I get to King #3 and notice Beatrice has been vanquished. Worthless. I get double teamed by King #3 and #4. Quickly that fight is over.

I don't know if there is a specific place in New Londo Ruins where white phantoms will hang-out waiting to be summoned, but I couldn't find a single one to assist in the Four Kings fight. Fuck.

Been using a jacked-up Black Knight Sword +5. It's powerful, but good lord, if I miss the heavy strike I am screwed. Switched to a Zweihander that I added lightning to and I think I'm liking it more, even though it doesn't have the power (yet) of the BKS.

It is possible. The DLC added quite a few new warp points. The second or third bonfire you hit is warpable. The one that is on the balcony.

Phantoms can generally be found at the area just outside the elevators from Firelink (with the praying hollows) or sometimes at the Darkwraith area just past the shortcut pool, before the stairs to the building.

4 Kings rant.

Man I had to grind some souls last night to be able to wield the Greatsword of Artorias, I wore the Havel armor and cut through them like butter. I am not sure if its because of the cursed aspect of the sword but it can't be coincidental that you also need to use the Covenant of Artorias ring to enter the abyss.

* Don't put points into resistance.
* BE PATIENT. Every enemy can kill you, no matter how minor. Deaths are normal.
* How comfortable you feel using a certain weapon is far more important than a weapon's stats. Pick a weapon you like, and then upgrade it. Most weapons in the game are perfectly viable.

The fuck they do.

One of my only "Really, From? Really?!" moments in the game. I have yet to find a 'satisfying' strategy dealing with them. Everything I've done to get past them seems either to rely on luck or just feels totally cheap.
Buff your weapon, sprint up, block, kill?

I've yet to die on those infamous archers and I'm playing the game again for the 5th time

i would say i died about once each time ive been through the game. in my most recent playthrough it was completely out of carelessness. i thought i was in a safe spot on the ledge but apparently not. i can sorta see the argument about its being a little unfair since you havent seen that enemy yet, but otherwise i am not sure what all the fuss is about.

Cannot be mentioned enough. Especially in the instance of getting back to your corpse after you died once, which could lead to more souls and humanity lost via impatience. Take your time clearing the path to your body of all enemies.

Four Dicks (Kings) - Defeated

Seath the Scaleless - Defeated

POOYA! Rolling now!
I also love that I'll pick things up in the heat of combat and not even realize it until later.
I was looking through my inventory and noticed I have a helmet that looks like a mimic chest, lol.

Been doing some White Phantom work to help people against bosses. Good feeling.
A few of them must have been on New Game + or something, because they had some badass gear. One guy even gave me a massive Black Knight Greatsword because he saw me using the standard Black Knight Sword.

Now I have to face the location I've been dreading: Tomb of the Giants... en route to fucking Nito (I think). :(
Not looking forward to it.

Dammit, I'm slacking you are ahead of me.
Ok I beat Nito

Arghhh Fuck the bed of chaos

Minor Spoilers abound

FUCK

Solaire died just before we defeated the Belfry Gargoyles. The Gargoyle Tail Axe seems a bit rubbish stats-wise, haven't tried it out yet though.

Kind of wish I hadn't defeated the Hellkite Dragon now that I know you only get 10,000 souls, and lose the ability to easily farm the area it resides

Gave Sif a try just before I got off, seems quite easy as long as you have the patience to avoid its attacks and take one swipe at a time to keep your stamina up

Currently running with:

Stone Helm
Eastern Armour
Eastern Leggings
Eastern Gauntlets

Havel's Ring
The ring that boosts defense when low on HP

Crest Shield+3
Longbow+2

Drake Sword
Broadsword+5 (Will upgrade to Divine Broadsword when I get Green Titanite)

Might downgrade my armour for the Sif fight. My agility is at the middle level (are there 3 levels?) where rolling is okay but could be better

Areas open to me:

Sif
Capra Demon
Drake Valley
Down from Firelink Shrine

Am I best off leaving Drake Valley until I have some decent lightning-resistance? Also, is there no good loot being guarded by those 3 cat things in Darkroot Wood? Took me ages to kill them for 3,000 poxy souls :P

After ringing the bell, a merchant arrived under the tower. Will he always be there?

-Valley of the Drakes isn't a really zone unto itself like say Undead Burg. It serves a short cut between some areas, but there are a few items there if you want to look for them. The drakes are a pain though, their lightning breath goes all over the place.
-The three cats just guard a path to Sif from Darkroot Basin. I don't think there is anything else there.
-Yea he will always be there.

A Golden Golem will appear in a cave behind the Hydra after you've reset the game (probably the back area you've mentioned). If you defeat him, Dusk will appear on the spot.

As much as I love the game, it's things like this that I hate most - Without a guide of some sort, after you explore an area, and you see there is nothing there, most gamers wouldn't go back to that spot? What's the point? Unless you plant something there, and would like to see it grow after you've gone away, there's no logical reason to do so. It will only appear "after you've reset the game". That's just stupid. As cool as it may be to have a surprise like that in the game, it's stupid. Atleast give me a hint or a reason to go back there. Reset the game? No, that's silly in my opinion.

Since you've already unlocked the Sif area, you have access to the best grinding spot in the entire game right inside the massive door you opened to get there (unless you came via a ladder?).

You're technically supposed to go to the Capra Demon next. Drake Valley is not a proper area per se, it's just a transition place between four other areas. There's not much at all to do there
(except a back door to the area beyond Capra but that's probably a bad idea).
Down from Firelink Shrine is pure death, don't even think about it until the endgame basically.
There's a blacksmith just inside it though if you're into magic weapons.

That merchant will always be there, yes. He's only truly relevant if you're into pvp though
(and certain covenant business)
.

Then you'll probably absolutely hate how to access the dlc :lol

Just started playing this on PS3. I beat Demons Souls 3 times about a year ago and loved the hell out of the game. Haven't gotten too far yet, just got to the bell tower demon in the Undead Parish. Just like Demons Souls, this game really punishes the impatient. Haven't played enough to tell which one I like more, but honestly, that's like picking a favorite child. I love them both for different reasons! Planning on picking up the DLC after I beat it, but judging on how I play that may be a while =P

Any tips for beating the bell tower demons? I do fine until the flame spitting one comes out, which causes my imminent death =P

Is there a lot of stuff behind the Capra Demon then?

Took Sif out by pelting him with firebombs which I keep at maximum capacity as a precaution

Solaire is still there in the Undead Berg. Now I'm not sure if he died as a phantom when fighting the gargoyles, or if he vanished straight after they were defeated and will turn up later in the game.

Do I have to find a different blacksmith to take my weapons past +5?
If I take them past +5, do I lose the oppurtunity to ascend them?
Why is it that only certain bosses give you unique souls? I've fought Asylum Demon, Stray Demon, Taurus Demon, Moonlight Butterfly, Sif and Belfry Gargoyle, yet I think I only got special souls for Sif and the butterfly

Is it feasible to go the entire game without using magic?

The gargoyles are best done if you treat it like a DPS check. Ideally, you want to kill off the first one before the second one shows up. That makes the fight much more straightforward. Two-handing a simple longsword + gold pine resin (the gargoyles are weak to lightning) gives you enough dps to do this.

If you can't kill off the first one fast enough, it becomes a prolonged positioning-based fight. Wear down the first gargoyle as much as possible, and then when the second one shows up, RUN the length of the roof to the other side. Let the gargoyles come to you, and hopefully one will run faster than the other, giving you time to get a few hits in before running to the other side of the roof and repeating the process. The fire breath move (both gargoyles do it) locks the gargoyle doing it in place, giving you a brief window to fight the other one as long as you are not in the cone of fire. Don't run yourself into a corner, and always leave yourself room to escape if one or both of the gargoyles look like they're about to shoot fire.

That's the last bit - the fire breath move makes the gargoyle doing it vulnerable from the sides, provided you have enough time to run before the fire comes out. Watch the mouths of the gargoyles, as the tell for the fire breath is fire in their mouths.

If you're really having trouble, go human and summon Solaire to serve as a distraction.

I DEFINITELY recommend getting the DLC. The boss fights in the DLC are among the best in the game.

Behind Capra Demon? Not sure what you mean. If you have the Master Key, you can skip the Capra Demon and another area past it, but you miss out on a few NPCs in the process.

Solaire is still there as long as you didn't kill him in person. If he died as a summoned phantom, he's still alive in your game world.

You need to find an ember to ascend weapons past +5. You can reverse the ascension, but you will lose the materials used to ascend/upgrade the weapon after the ascension. For example, if you had a +5 Longsword and you ascended it to +6, then upgraded it to +10, you can revert it back to a +5 Longsword but you won't get back any materials you used taking it to +10.

Yes, only certain bosses give unique souls. That's just how it is.

And yes, you can definitely go through the entire game without magic. In fact, I find it more fun to go through the game as pure melee. Hell, you can go through the game without magic, ranged weapons, or even a shield/armor if you're good enough. Most speedruns have the player going through the game naked, and only carrying their weapon maybe 99% of the time.

you have to get a special ember to take it past +5, it's found in the depths near the butcher

I recommend taking them to +15 so you can use buffs, it's the best option for damage. If you have INT leveled enchanted weapons are also pretty good too.

Just popped the game in for the first time.! Which class should I start ? I'm a semi newbie

Classes don't really matter, it's just a starting off point. Pyromancer is the most newbie friendly since you have access to pyromancy right away, which is basically non-stat dependent magic, but you spec out of your class within a few levels.

I'm scared lol

Don't be, the game isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be. Just don't rush ahead and over reach. The game will punish you for being cocky, but (for the most part) telegraphs everything important.

I'm scared lol
That's normal. Just keep an eye out for what you can learn, and don't be afraid to experiment and be a little stubborn with those experiments (Let's try this. Didn't work? Let's try it another 5 times. --> "Okay, so it really doesn't work" OR "Ohhhh, so it does work, but I was doing it wrong"). Get used to dying a lot, and sometimes for the dumbest (and I mean DUMBEST) reasons. It happens to absolutely everyone, all the way up the skill/experience tree, so there is no shame in dying as long as you learn something from it.

Everytime I backstab an enemy, I cringe with how brutal it is. When I was backstabbed and kicked off a cliff by an invader, I cringed, cursed and sat in glee with how awesome it looked, all at once :P

Can you survive a backstabbing?

It's not a OHKO, it just does a ton of damage.

Yes if you have enough health. In my experience most backstabs are not insta kills.

Today I got 1 hit backstabbed. And after getting destroyed too many times, I give up. I suck at this game's pvp!

And that's weird because I was competent in Demon's Souls.

I think I'll be skipping Dark Souls II...I stopped at Sen's fortress. I loathe the new hollow/humanity system. It just makes me want to stop playing if I carry lots of humanity and in human form, like I am at the moment. I already invested 40+ hours into the game. Demon's Souls humanity mechanism was perfect.

If you are at a point where you are not confident you can get through without dying and/or not confident you can get back to where you were, just put on ring of sacrifice until you get past the part.

Anyway, I'm jealous of all you guys. I'm currently at
MANUS
in NG+ and he is the most brutal boss ever. I never fought him in my first playthrough, he is just kicking my ass so bad.

Ring of Sacrifice costs assloads and It's a rare item to boot. I'm sure there are 100 trapdoors and other traps in the area besides the swinging axes.

I just beat the tutorial guy . Lol. How do you use your fire ball?

Change your equips with the arrows, lock target with R3/RS, and hit R1/RB as if you are attacking. Locking is best to aim with these. Also go back and read the messages on the floor before you leave that area. :P
