LTTP: Darksiders 2 aka Vigil tried their hardest to kill Darksiders

DS2 is great. Brilliant combat (this can't be stressed enough; the combat system is extraordinary for an action adventure game), one of the top 10 soundtracks of the generation, a robust world well realized through a distinctive art style, a good sense of progression (both in terms of abilities gained and the quests that open up over the course of the game), and standout moments throughout. The rushed second half, despite its terrible turret-oriented level, has some of the coolest areas and a couple of superb boss battles that shouldn't be missed by anyone.

The game is marred by pacing issues, repetitive fetch quests, and glitches, but all in all it still deserves a spot on the short list of this gen's must-play titles. In its own way, DS2 is just as rich as the original. It'll be a damn shame if this series doesn't find a home with a studio that can do it justice.

In closing, I'll just leave this here.

Poked my head in here to make sure that the Soundtrack and the gameplay were getting props. The whole package was definitely rushed, and not up to my own standards. But Jesper rocked it out, and I can still have a surprising amount of fun in combat - especially compared to most button mashing action games these days.

EDIT:

that GIF at the top of the page is the one that made me look into buying the game out of interest in the combat engine. It's surprisingly deep.

I was pretty hyped for this game, but it kinda disappointed me. Mostly because I thought the story would be stronger and they could have definitely done a better job with the loot system. If you played on Apocalyptic you wouldn't be complaining about tanking too many hits and having too many potions, and I thought the combat was a lot of fun. Also I actually liked the Earth level lol... it was a fun departure, made it feel like there was other stuff going on.
